These are extremely cute. I love the double layer skirt of your daughter's. Great applique work.

Here's the shirt I finished for Arminda last night/this morning. She picked out the ribbon to put on. At first I wasn't sure about it, but I think it turned out pretty cute. I didn't like how low the shirt came in the front, so I added a little piece of fabric so Arminda wouldn't have to worry about exposing herself!

Okay, your scaring me...I have this same pattern cut out in minnie dot fabric...it's all pinned...I guess I will really have to motivate myself to tackle that one knowing it will be a bear ahead of time! I think the top came out so pretty...and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that the top would be a little too low without that little panel...I think I may have to add that into mine.

Is this the kind of top you're asking about? I've made tops like this one with faux ribbon lacing up the front. The back is shirred to make the top look fitted but it's a great style since it is very flexible for fit.

If that's what you're looking for or close, I'd be happy to explain what I do to make it. I don't use a pattern but I think I could explain well enough to get your started.

My first try at "gaucho" pants. My wife decided that she likes the pants alone with just the blue top. And the tops with maybe just a plain pair of brown pants with maybe a ruffle out of the coordinating fabric.

Tom, you really ought to consider selling some of your creations. Now if I asked my husband to sew even a button, he'd look at me and laugh. I definitely like the outfit and your DD looks so so happy with it too!

Here are the basic instructions for a top like the one shown a few posts back of my Snow White set. I included some simple illustrations for steps I felt might be the most confusing. I wrote the instructions assuming the person will know how to shir fabric with elastic thread and also do other sewing techniques. I would suggest trying this the first time using fabric you're not going to really miss if your first attempt doesn't work as planned.

This is a great idea with the t-shirt top! Looks super comfy and so cute too! I've always eyeballed that rainbow rick rack, but never could think of what I'd do with it...it worked perfectly on this dress! How did you do the gems on the top? And was it difficult to sew with the knit top?

Thank you! I love the line these prints are from and thought they were perfect for Snow White both in colors and in the stylistic look of the vines, flowers and bugs. I really try to find unexpected combinations to use in my designs. They aren't always successful, unfortunately.

It might depending on the adult's shape. If the person were more than a bit busty, the fit might not work. However, a little experimenting with darts in the front might produce a good version for women. Of course some other adjustments might be needed but the basics would probably work for most sizes.

These are the outfits I made the kiddos for the 4th of July. I figured I would begin practicing with appliques on something simple. DD loves her dress, and I am very happy with it. I started with a pattern, but quickly threw it out and made it up as I went, very fun. I made DS a matching shirt so he wouldn't feel left out. He promptly stained it. Oh well, at least I was able to snap the pictures first!

Another great example of US knowing more about sewing, than the people working in these stores ...
like ... one time, last year = a Jo@nn's STORE MANAGER told me that "there's no such thing as ELASTIC THREAD! I know EVERYTHING WE SELL HERE & there's no such thing!"
I politely said "it's what you do shirring with. You wrap it on a bobbin & sew with it, on your machine. Like the little sundresses we had as little girls." ...
She got huffy & snorted at me "I don't know what THAT is! But I know for a fact, that you can't run elastic through your sewing machine. You HAVE TO sew elastic TO the fabric with thread. Our elastics are all over there." ...... grrrrrr
I finally found it in the notions area, hanging on a peg wall. I POLITELY showed it to her & that the package says "ELASTIC THREAD" (I made sure to be NICE as I did that, though) then I turned it over & showed her the back = INSTRUCTIONS on HOW TO SHIR with elastic thread ...
geez ...
She YELLED at me (as if, she just could NOT possibly be wrong) "well, THAT's a notion, NOT a thread! Since it's in the NOTION SECTION, and NOT in the THREAD SECTION." ...
I just calmly turned around & walked away. argue+brick wall=silly ...
I only showed it to her, IN HOPES that she MIGHT remember it, IF anyone ever asked where it was, in the future. NO sense in someone else getting treated that way, just for asking, ya know?~! I'm pretty sure she won't forget that incident very easily.
FYI = There's another brand/CLEAR in their crochet/knitting/yarn area, too ... heheeee and they had pre-shirred fabric, too!

I absolutely hate confrontation and go out of my way to avoid it. But I can say I know what its like keeping quiet when someone does this. You did a good job keeping your cool. And you ended up being right which is always good!

These are adorable, I really like 4th of July outfits. My baby brother is an almost 4th baby, made it on the 3rd right before midnite , and so our family is big into celebrating this holiday!

I finally finished the top to match dd's pants. I had jessica make the pants and then I just had to make a matching top! DD said no ruffles, rick rack, or appliques so I guess I've reached her quota for a while But I am so excited that I have the complete outfit done!

BTW, dd wouldn't look away from the tv long enough to take pictures

It turned out great! Even without rickrack and ruffles!

Since I don't have her in front of me (lives a few states away), what are approximate 4T measurements? (I'm making a pillowcase dress and a princess skirt for dress up/halloween for now)

Just a little note, when looking for Minnie Dot in Walmart, make sure you check *all* the shelves, not just the costume area. I was so bummed today when it wasn't there, but then out of the corner of my eye I spied a bolt buried in the 2.00 table!

Not a silly question at all. On most machines, it's just the zigzag stitch with your stitch length at the shortest setting you can use and still get the fabric to move. LOL Width varies based on your preference, skill level and other factors, such as the type of fabric you use.

One thing I recommend to anyone who will be doing much applique beyond basic shapes is to buy a spool of bobbin thread (it's labeled that way). It's thinner than basic sewing thread so you can get a LOT more on the bobbin which means less frequent bobbin changes. Also, because it is thinner, it doesn't add much bulk to the stitch so satin stitches are usually closer together.

That was a great tip. It can get frustrating when the bobbin runs out while you're working on something.

I was wondering what to do with all that red dot fabric I bought.... Now I know! I love this color combination.

Wow, I have been attempting making my first applique besides a heart or flower shape. I traced a castle out of a coloring book and then copied over to the "heat and bond" paper on the back of the fabric. Then I satin stitched over the tracing on the wrong side of the fabric. Then I zig-zagged on the right side of fabric in colors. It took a while. What do you think? The goal is to cut it out and applique it to a dress. This is my first time so please feel free to make suggestions! Am I doing this right????

Thanks! I tried to pick the little girl from the fabric that looked most like her! Her baby brother has a matching shirt as well! She told me she was going to wear it ... "all DAY!" I had to bribe her with chocolate to get it off!

My husband walked in while I was looking at this and I told him this was another outfit by Castle Creations (I showed him the one listed). He asked me if I was called Goofy Garments. I haven't told him yet I bought the cow fabric from Walmart just b/c I loved your outfit so much. Not sure what I'm going to do with mine though.
