LOL!! Too funny! You know...I was just thinking...What do these people say when someone asks them what they do for a living? "I'm a pattern model." Come on, we've gotta feel kinda sorry for them, don't we? :rotfl:

This just strikes me as really funny, but maybe that's because it's after midnight...

My DD is a real pattern model for someone on YCMT, does that count??? LOL

Amy, thanks for sharing, I could have written this, my mom was the same way too! She sewed for us out of necessity, back when it actually cost less to do it! I remember at one point it was everything but socks and panties, lol.

I too was a brat about it, and also the sweaters my grandma knit for me, they didn't look like the store bought ones my friends had. But the sewing my mom did always made it look like the latest styles as I grew older, and I was thankfull for that!

Now I've got 3 girls of my own, though my sewing for them is pretty much limited now to the youngest, with the occasional Easter Dress. My oldest dd (15) needed a formal this last winter, and she let me sew for her. We ran into a friend at the fabric store who asked why we were there, and dd said getting fabric for her ball gown, friend replies "Oh yes, you did tell me you were having it made." LOL, guess that sounds a bit better than 'my mom is making my dress'.

My mom passed away last year, and I know she passed a legacy on to me with her love and talent.

That is funny... "having it made". My mom and grandmother made my wedding dress, even! I got to design it exactly the way I wanted (we needed three patterns to get it just right). Speaking of which, it sits in a storage bin untouched since my wedding. I NEEEEEEEEEED to get it cleaned by someone who will really care about it.

Just been struck by a lightning bolt of inspiration! Look on voldemort under Custom Boutique Sky and Earth Skirt Set Fall!

Ok, look at the purposely "sloppy" applique on the top!!!! I think I can do that! :cool2: Since it's imperfect on purpose!!!! Then look at the stitching on the skirt layers! It's soooo cool!

I just might have to find similar fabrics in pinks and browns (my favorite).

Calypso- I'm so sorry about your rude DB! If you do end up getting the jojo set back, I may know someone (cough) who would gladly reimburse you :flower3: (really!).

I dare (double-dog dare) you to make your brother something hideous for Christmas to see if he'd be gracious when opening in front of the whole family! That's my evil side, though.

Lori, I just LOVE those outfits!

You guys make me realize I just have to keep sewing to get any better. I'm one of those people who just likes to be instantly good at something and very rarely am I. :) I tried to sew some ruffles on the butt of some pants for Ilana and I failed miserably. I ended up just tossing the whole project. :(

You and me Jennifer, we're the same. I hate to not just be instantly good at something. But you know recently I've realized that it kept me from working hard to be good at some stuff I'd have like to have learned to do. Like playing the guitar, playing volleyball (I love it, played in HS as a sophmore but was only 4'11" and no matter how hard I practiced I was still a JV second stringer so I gave up-even though I LOVE LOVE LOVE the game...how fair was that??)
So stick it out, take a class or three and keep sewing..you'll get better.

DB actially said, and I quote, "Those shoes are hideous." I told him that everyone I know, myself, friends, DM, friends of DM thought they were absolutely ADORABLE and just darling

DB and SIL did say that they thought Dena's outfit was cute. I can only wonder if it was sincere though. I explained to DB after the shoe comment that the shoes and outfit were custom made, and he asked what it cost and I told him. His reaction was much like this :scared1: which was why I said I'd like them back if it was only going to sit in a drawer or closet, not be enjoyed by DN3 and eventually be given away to Goodwill. I appreciate the honesty. I see Gymboree gift cards in the future for DN3  I would be shocked to get pics of her in the outfit as she is 3 years old and I only have one picture of her :confused3 Well I keep trying, not much more I can do.

Thanks for the support, it means a lot! :grouphug:

That SO sucks. It's always hard to give presents like that. Especially when you feel like you have to add, "if it's not gonna get used send it back and I'll send you a gift card" I had to say that when I made a diaper bag for a friends wife. Cause between money and time when I was done I was like"crap what if she hates it..
I hate it for you that your brother and his wife are this way toward you. I think gift cards will be the way to go...and WHY don't you have pictures of your niece??? Try to see if your mom can get a picture of her in it if your DB won't obligue.

Well, off to sew the minnie outfit. Wish me luck!! I kinda modified the pants(making them wider) and used the bodice from my stripwork dress pattern as the base for a top(making it longer) to try to make an outfit kinda like this
m_0b5d73b611fd16320db1485704564737.jpg

Only w/ minnie dot and yellow ruffles (legs, bottom of shirt, bodice, straps)
hmm...I hope this works.

Ugh, I had 3 boys in a row, you have reason to fear! :dance3:

:rotfl: I have 3 boys right now and am so nervous to even try for a 4th child--don't know if I can handle 4 of them--boys that is! Ack!:rotfl2:

What gave you the courage to try again?;)

I like that! I bet though, that if I tried to make it look sloppy, it'd turn out perfect! At least the opposite has been true for the Ariel project I've working on this weekend!

Pink/brown is also my favorite combo!

Ha ha ha, I can just see it now, she goes to school in khaki's and a plain white shirt but, changes into her custom's when she gets to school. :rotfl:

Stashing them in the bottom of her drawer and in the back of her closet and screaming "it's not mine, it's jane's... I swear!!!!" when confronted by her mother who suspected boutique activity while driving by the schoolyard and spotting dd slipping her friend an applique!

No, I didn't but it's just as well, they probably wouldn't have liked it. SIL and DB hated the shoes :sad2: After that, I thought for certain after that they wouldn't like the outfit. They said they did like it, I wonder if DN3 even got to see the shoes :confused3 They never have her open her gifts until she gets home so I have no idea. The shoes came before the outfit and all of it had to be rushed as my DN3 B-day party was moved up a week at the last minute :rolleyes1 I wound up begging the designers to rush and have it all overnighted. I did tell DB and SIL to return it all to me after the shoe comments if they didn't like it as I would save it for when my other DSIL has children. DN3's mom offered to give it back after DN3 wore it to WDW in case I wanted to hold on to it to give to my other SIL down the road  I said no, that it was hers to keep. I would never re-gift after it was worn  DB did apologize for having "different tastes" I said it wasn't necessary, if I had kids and they gave me something plain an unimaginative for my kids I would not like it one bit :lmao:

I wound up buying instructions on how to make bows on Voldemort that also contained video so I can follow along.

Sorry, I just needed to vent :scared:

I can not believe they told you that! So sorry! I would have loved to get a gorgeous *custom* outfit like that for a gift--very thoughtful of you.:cutie:

Oh my, this is beautiful! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the red peeking out of the bottom.

Do you think I could get away with wearing something similar??? I bet I would end up on that "weirdest things you saw at WDW" thread! :rotfl: I am pretty sure that I could NOT carry off those boots at my age, much less the rest of it!

Terri

PS Thanks to the_seamstress for the tip on quoting using the smaller pic!:goodvibes

oh I think you could rock that outfit! Many moms have been saying they want one too!

lori

Did I start that whole Voldemort thing when I mentioned the site that must not be named or am I just full of myself:lmao:

Cause I kept thinking how clever, then I realized I might just have started that.

For those of you that don't make your own bows, there are a bunch of hairbows on Voldemort right now that could be Disney-fied. Look up Boutique Lot 29 Bows Chez Ami Halloween.

He went to get a new key for the lawn mower and came home with a new sewing machine. He bought me the Brother 6000i I was looking at to surprise me.

Now I am going to read through the manual.

Do they make a ruffler foot for this machine?

Where are your dancing bananas?!!?!?!? What a GREAT DH!!!!!
   (3 minimum:) )

Yes, I have a ruffler foot from Hancock, get the LOW foot, NOT the slant foot.
Sorry if this has already been addressed, I missed one day and I am of course 10 pages behind!!!

I am SOO excited to share my completed customs with you guys!!

I still have to do some appliqued T's and polos for my DS5, but here is what I've done for Mally (DD7). I would like to have time to make her one more outfit, either Cinderella themed or princess themed of some kind. I am also thinking of a High School Musical outfit...

This was my first attempt at the decoupage method. I had the jean jacket laying around (it won't fit Mally long) just waiting for the opportunity to be embellished! Catch the HIDDEN MICKEYS???

This is the decoupage jeans with peasant top... (again, notice the hidden Mickey??) I didn't make them to match the jacket (denims are very different), but I loved the fabrics so much, I wanted to use them again.

I've been sharing my Alice outfit during it's progress. It now is totally done. (Notice, I did take your advice and removed the ruffle from the front). This is for our 1900 Park Fare breakfast! For those that I emailed the pattern for Alice to, how are you coming? I'm excited to see what others do with it!

... and these are my favorite... the Minnie overalls. We just got the MJ Crocs and Minnie head Jibbit. I found this adorable top at Carters (Mally's a 6x, so I painfully made my LAST Carters purchase for her, EVER!) I may apply something in the back top of the overalls where I took off the OshKosh label. Maybe another spray of flowers?

Sorry about Mally's PAINED expression. She was missing Hannah Montana...

I'm so excited to have these done and put together! I am going to put them in their ziplock baggies and put them in the suitcase!!! What satisfaction!!! (Yes, I'm nuts... we don't leave for another 11 weeks, but I LOVE to pack!)

I am also considering doing a pair of denim Minnie capris for ME! If I can find a good fitting pair of jeans at the right price, I will...

I think that is very cute! I like it much better without the ruffle, great job! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I think a red dot minnie on the back of the overalls would be cute! And, I would love to make me some capris also but want to see someone else's first so I have an idea on what do do!

Oh, and how dare you make her miss Hannah Montana!!! I'd be mad too! :rotfl:

The peasant top pattern is by Dainty Designs on Youcanmakethis.com. It's VERY very easy, but if you are not an avid sewer, you may not know some of the steps to do that she doesn't explain (like making then finishing off the end of your ruffle. She just says to make and attach it.)

I love YCMT.com, though, b/c the pictures make the patterns so easy to follow, and you are supporting other mom's! (I have a friend that makes amazing patterns for them and she's been bugging me to try my hand at it!) I mentioned Mally modeling for her patterns earlier.

LAZYDAZY: OMG, I love the hidden mickey outfit. and your use of ruffles on you alice dress is wonderful(i'd seem it before and failed to comment) Thanks for the inspiration. Back to the sewing machine.

a gazillion posts. I'm going to make this brief so it doesn't take up 5 pages..

Your outfits are fantastic....

Thank You!!!!

She IS cute, for the birth-control poster child (I am sooo kidding, I just think that when she's pissy- which is often):

Okay -- I thought DH and I were the only one's that used this phrase -- our DD(4) is the Poster child for Birth Control

Here is what I did yesterday. It is my trial run for my planned Belle outfit -(I spent $60 on the fabric for the Belle outfit so I NEEDED to do a test run on something else... anyway I learned to do BUTTONHOLES yesterday -- yeah Here it is -- retrorocket:

Nana and I made my wedding dress, and it was the same way, it took several patterns, and a couple of mock-ups in muslin before we got it the way we wanted! She did all the sewing, I had to do all the beading. I wanted a bodice full of pearls, so 3000 pearls later, I gave mom all the pattern pieces back, and she did the sewing on the dress. Thanks again, mom!!!

AWESOME!!!!!! I LOVE that rocket fabric. That's not cheap fabric either, ya know! You did it justice for sure!

I canNOT WAIT to see your Belle outfit. I have a weakness for Belle. I would love to make a Belle outfit for Mally. Maybe you'll move me to do so!

Thank you for sharing!
