That wouldn't surprise me at all!! I was born in '69, and my mom named me after Amy in Little Women. I had a friend Amie in college and they used to call us "y" and "ie". And now, I have a friend, Aimee, who is 7 yrs younger than I am, but we share the same birthday, July 18th.

That is my DS birthday. He just turned one!!!:goodvibes

Very cute! It is hard to wrangle them around the machine isn't it! My machine has a removable part so I can get smaller things up under the needle. I haven't had to take a seam out yet I am too scared to to it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am such an untalented sewer :) That I never thought about taking the removable part off of the machine to get into smaller places. I was so worried about doing my dd's capri's I was up thinking about it in the middle of the night...sleep is so over rated :) I feels so silly for not realizing that that was possible :headache: Anyway- I am now looking forward to working on them tomorrow. I will post pics as soon as I have then done. I am having a "sewing day" with my friend tomorrow. I am not sure how much sewing will get done with the 9 children we have between the two of us, but I am now really looking forward to it. Thanks again for the tip!

WOW! I love the warm welcome! We are heading to Disney on Sept. 5 and I have plans for an outfit for each day. I am sewing a few and painting the others. I bought the fabric from hancocks with the flags/international kids, but after I saw the Smiles Around the World fabric, I just had to have it. I don't have my design in mind just yet. I just tried to upload a picture of the Aurora shirt I painted for my best friend's little girl, but got an error message about "too low post numbers." Guess I'll have to participate more before I can share.

I have 21 month old boy/girl twins, so I really need to get started on my outfits or I'll never be done in time.

I LOVED this fabric too!!! I bought this outfit...

Welcome! Post more often if you have time! I really love both the Friends around the world and the "hello" fabric. THey are both adorable. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Go to the community board and you can boost your post numbers! :welcome:

I LOVE my new Mickey purse:love: . I cannot wait to use it tomorrow. I made the pink one for my mom--it matches her scrubs. I also made the halloween one for her-- she loves candy corn. I love making these. It is alot of fun!!! ---- Mindy

Wow those are cute! I love the Mickey purse! Did you use interfacing or anything in between the two layers? I may have time to make myself a little bag to go with my shirts. So cute.:thumbsup2

When you do pillowcase dresses and you are not using a pillowcase what dimensions do you use for a 2t?
Thanks Aimee

The second link has list of LENGTHS of the toddler/small child sizes ;)
Most pillowcases are either 36"-40" around total ...

I have a commercial pattern that uses 2 pieces with these widths (including seam allowance of 1/2"-5/8" on both sides to make the "case"/body) :
2T 16", 3T 16.5", 4T 17", 5T 17.5" & 6 18" ...
Note = this is their chart for chest & waist measurements
(supposedly this is actual child measurements, that this pattern will fit) :
Size ~~ 1T ~~ 2T ~~ 3T ~~ 4T ~~ 5T ~~ 6
Chest ~ 20" ~~ 21" ~ 22" ~~ 23" ~~ 24" ~ 25"
Waist ~ 19.5" ~ 20" ~ 20.5" ~ 21" ~ 21.5" ~ 22"
my girls are slender & this pattern turns out fine on them / not "too big" or loose fitting :)
I use 1/2" seam allowance ...

hope that helps.

Glad I could help. I sat here and couldn't think of a way to describe that thing! :rotfl: "It's you know that removable part on the machine that snaps on and off, what the heck is it called?":headache: It's handy when you work on sleeves and such for kids' things since they can be so tiny!

I love the way this looks. I want to try it when I make DD jeans to go with her Pirate Top. I hope I can pull it off as well as you did. Did you use any specific directions? So cute!

I bought the capri set. But I did the girl on the bodice the same way as the patches on the jeans. It would be very easy to do!! Cut a square of the image. Straight stitch the square onto a larger denim square. Then Fringe the denim edges. You could either sew the patches on or use glue.

I bought these from a really nice lady on a *popular auction site*. ;)
We are going to wear them to Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner.

Very clever idea for LTT!!!

Very cute!

that gathering foot is the best $30 I ever spent. it is quicker and easier!
Lori

Is this something you can buy for any machine?

I like this face best

Family Loves Disney I thought I added your pic to this reply also, but I guess not :confused3 Anyway, if you've not already done so (I'm several pages behind) I'd like to see the outfit you got in the mail on your dd. I really like those patterns together and I'm sure it will be adorable on.

I love Nemo outfits, very cute!

2cutekidz I love the Peter Pan and Tink shirts, I just realized they were by the same person that did your JoJo outfit!

Well, not too much sewing today. I finished an apron top that I had been working on. It has Epcot on one side, and Disney on the other. It's reversible.

How clever are you!!! Again, I've probably not got that far yet, but I'd like to see it modeled.

I did that pattern!!! What is the problem? Maybe I can help- Aimee

:flower3: Aimee - THANK YOU so much for your help last night!!! I figured it out!!!!(thanks to your helpful directions :teacher: ) I have to add a hem it and add a ruffle - I'l try to post a picture in a day or so!! Thanks!!!! :cheer2:

The wording on the pattern was a bit confusing. I had to really sit and re-read it over and over again. I also used my trusty purple grippy seam ripper!

I cannot wait to see the pics!

My second attempt at applique. Made these for my friend's newest bambino...

Made a little boy too.. but he didn't turn out as well as the girl...

Planning on attempting shorts/skirt to go with the girl/boy tops with the Friends fabric... makes me feel a little like this I'm so new at the machine! :P

Wow! Great job on the appliques! I love the little girl!

some more little outfits.... bought the material at Wal Mart... love that store ha!

WOW!!! Beautiful kids and gorgeous outfits! These are really wonderful!

UGH! I am needing help with ideas for this fabric:
IMG_0145.jpg

Can someone help?

I was thinking the same as mytwotinks, turn it and make a faux stripwork skirt.

Thanks for all the compliments. I know it is plain compared to what is usually shown on here, but I want her to be comfortable and run around on the playground. She wanted to wear it today, but I told her she had to wait for school!

100_1606.jpg

I've officially lost my mind I think: I cleaned out all her dresser drawers. Got rid of everything that was too small: so I could make room for her custom outfits! I have one drawer dedicated to all her customs!

She and the outfit is adorable!!! I just bought a hope chest type of thing today for the girls, just to put their new custom clothes in! So, really better start sewing!

Trying to pm about Cinderella, but maybe your post count is too low? If you are ok with it, maybe you can pm me with your email, and I could contact you that way...let me know. Thanks!

Ok, tell us, what are you going to tell her about Cinderella? :) Do you know her?

Ok.. dont tell hubby LOLOL
064-1.jpg

All the outfits are adorable! But, I like this picture best!!! :rotfl2:

Very impressive! I agree with Utahmama, the bows need to light up. Hey,maybe you could make the shirt light up too!

How about something like this?

Karriescustoms013.jpg

Use the pillowcase as the skirt part, maybe a yellow bodice with one of the images appliqued on it?
I love that idea!

100_3546.jpg

While I was sewing these for them, they'd often run up to me and give me a big kiss out of the blue. Then they'd tell me how much they love me and laugh and say how excited they were for their clown costumes. Now if that isn't payment for my sewing services, I don't know what is!:goodvibes When they finally tried them on, one stated, "It's so comfy, I don't ever want to take it off!" :lmao: Yeah, I can see it now! He was serious too! My boys are definately dress-up boys. They own DOZENS and each gets A LOT of use. So these will have a LONG life...even after the Big Top comes down after my birthday:)
That is the sweetest story! Nice jobs on the outfits!
I haven't been on here in a while, and can't even begin to catch up, but thought I'd post what I worked on yesterday. It still needs hemmed and I thought I'd layer it over leggings with lace on the bottom.

clothes042.jpg

I wish the back panel was closer to the same width as the others, is it bad?

I was wondering where you were! I love the way this looks, you did a great job! I think the back looks neat.

*TeresaJoy*, could you please add ivyjoy dot com to your resource site if you haven't already? It's a great coloring book search engine to use for applique patterns. Here, you can get tons of links that Google doesn't hit for character patterns for applique. It'll even link to foreign sites so you'll get a pretty comprehensive list of what's available for each character.

I allready did it, a week or so ago, but thanks for the suggestion. I like it when people send me links to put in!

Hi Gang,

Well I finally have some custom outfits to show my cuties off in !

This is Sam and Kiley in their Cinderella outfits and flip flops and hair bows I bought for our trip to DW in September.

100_0626.jpg

And this is my drama queen Kiley, who was not a happy camper due to the fact that her sister got to wear her hair bows and she could'nt wear hers, because her Cindy hair clippies both broke before the picture and I had to take them out so I could hot glue them. (you'd never know from the picture though LOL)

Blessed Be,
Tina

TOO cute! They look adorable in their beautiful dresses!

I love that JoJO set! Your daughters all look beautiful. The Minnie outfits turned out really cute! I love the matching sandals!
So you guys have seen pieces but I am finally done with the Epcot outfits for the kids. The pants for dd were so hard. I never realized how hard it is to applique on jeans:eek: . You guys make it look so easy. I also made a matching shirt ds1 but he is sick with the flu and taking a nap.

100_5931.jpg

Now on to the next project

Great job, they look wonderful!

Here is what I am working on now. I traced clip art & cut & pieced it all together. This pic is before I did the stitching, well I did some of the hair lol
Anyway, I am scared to do the eyes! ( I fixed the other eye btw)
I did a little outlining in white, but I saw some previous pics & they used black to outline..I tried that & it looks awful! Now I need to pick it out & re do it..should I try by hand? I have NO CLUE how to do it by hand though!
Anyway I would love advice on how to get the small parts to look nice
Thank you!
(PS I finally finished this entire thread late last night! LOL!)

LadyRob posted a link to a great site on how to do embroidery. My sister used it to make the Ariel applique that's on the photobucket site. It was her first time doing embroidery, and her second applique attempt! I put it in my bookmarks page (link in siggy or first post on first page of this thread). Here it is though: http://www.needlenthread.com/2006/10/video-library-of-hand-embroidery.html

OK now I can share some outfits I made my kdis when we went to DL in March, these are pretty basic & simple BTW not nearly as fancy as I have seen here!
For my son:
Buzz set..we got so many compliments on this! Now I want to find more Buzz fabric to make another set for WDW trip!

dl3.JPG

I will post my DD's outfits in the next post as not to take up too much room lol

I love them, especially the Mickey peaking up from the bottom of the shirt!

Here are the outfits I amde my DD for our last trip"

My girls and I LOVE these! My dd9 wants the Ariel set!

100_1471.jpg

and i also made this pillowcase dress with leftover fabric...it says once upon a time little princess

100_1473.jpg

so let me know what ya all think...i have been in awe of everyone's designs...

These are adorable! Great work.

Now if I want to make the 2t should it be 16" wide. I am now even more confused. What about the length? I do not know why I am having so much trouble! It sewing a rectangle!!!!

I would just measure around your daughter, and make it 1 1/2 to 2 times wider than the measurement (depending on how full you want it. Then, just measure on her how long you want it to be, adding some for the hem and top casing.

I have about four different pillowcase dress patterns on the bookmarks site.

ETA: Actually, I just went and counted and there are 7 underneath the pillowcase dress heading. One is a romper though.

sounds like you've got it. :)
take 2 pieces 16" wide & sew them together, up each side.
So, it turns out to be almost 31-32" around in the torso/chest ...
they already included the seam allowance, in those #'s :) (don't have to add it yourself)

I added that company's size charts & the "lengths" note, for reference, just in case. :cutie:
Sorry, didn't mean to TMI.
pillowcase patterns ... reference post

The kids are all so lovable. They remind me of my 5-year old niece Belinda. It's gonna be her birthday next month and I'm planning to give her an Alice in Wonderland costume. That's her favorite Disney cartoon character. Do you know where I can find her one? If not Alice costume, she probably would appreciate a Jasmine or Ariel outfit. Hope you can help. Thanks!

I have a few pages to read (again!) but wanted to post this question first. What's a good thread? I'm using Coats & Clark. It keeps breaking when I applique and last night it kept breaking during a regular straight stitch! I was gathering a slightly heavier fabric, but still. Annoying. So what thread should I be using? Keep in mind I only have a Joann's around here. Our Super Walmart stopped carrying fabric. :sad1: I also have a Michaels, but not sure if they sell thread?
