Here is what I am working on now. I traced clip art & cut & pieced it all together. This pic is before I did the stitching, well I did some of the hair lol
Anyway, I am scared to do the eyes! ( I fixed the other eye btw)
I did a little outlining in white, but I saw some previous pics & they used black to outline..I tried that & it looks awful! Now I need to pick it out & re do it..should I try by hand? I have NO CLUE how to do it by hand though!
Anyway I would love advice on how to get the small parts to look nice
Thank you!
(PS I finally finished this entire thread late last night! LOL!)

Ok 2 things today....First does anyone have a resource for getting "trim" at very good discounts or pricing. I'm sure there's a better deal than going to the fabric store. I say that only because I have found several ribbon suppliers that are a MUCH better deal than Michaels....I know I could use coupons but that gets tedious at times.

Also, y'all remember that navy custom outfit that went for big bucks on a particular auction site? There's now an army one up from the same seller. Can't wait to see how that ends.....

I use handmades.com for my trims. They have some unique things for really good prices.

Second, of course I remember that set! I'm making the top! :rolleyes1

Whenever I outline something by hand, I always draw a line with invisible ink where I need to stitch. It keeps everything even.

Good luck!

ok, does anyone else want to plan a non summer trip just to make these cute outfits with denim LOL...

I love so many of them but for an August trip I dont want the kids to sweat to death.

That is a really great website. I am going to do some new smocked dresses for the babes. I am sure I will find treasure there!

Here are some overalls I made for my best friend. She needs them saturday for her son's first birthday and I have to mail them to her so I thought I better start them today. I would like to add something else but not sure what. The problem is she is having a circus cake, and to me giraffes aren't at circuses so I skipped the tent we had thought about it. I also don't want to personalize them because then it makes it super hard to sell.

That is great! Nice work on the applique. Can you tell me more about a quilter's foot? I am assuming this is an attachment for the machine. Do you have a picture? I started to do some very basic appliqueing but I would like to move on to Ariel--and the details of her face seem intimidating. Thanks!

Good night everyone,
Blakely

I had a hard time getting a good picture of the foot. I don't know if it's becuase it's clear, the light or my battery isn't at it's strongest. On my machine, I have a plate that goes over the feed. Some machines, the feed dog drops. The foot is clear, so you can see through it. I mostly use it when I make quilted jackets, so you can do the freehand sewing, swirls all over it. I thought I'd try it on Pluto since he was so small and I wouldn't be able to a zig zag.

I used a pencil to lightly draw the lines I wanted to stitch. Then I used this quilters (stippling) foot to do the freehand. I think it came out pretty decent. I'm not a good at machine stippling. But the jackets are supposed to look like an old quilt, and the material is so busy, no on would notice anyway.

OMG. You all are AMAZING!! I could cry - at the darling outfits you create, and because I can't sew to save my life!!!! I SO want to learn how to do this. Any tips for a newbie on where to begin???
I guess I need to find a class at JoAnn or somewhere like that??? Any tips to pass along would be most welcome.

Hoping to be able to post a cute outfit someday soon (I guess before our early Sept. trip would be unlikely, huh?!).....

We haven't made any def. plans yet, but we are probably going to go the first weekend in March for ESPN the weekend. I am trying to decide what kind of things the girls will need for that time of year. I am kinda hoping that capri jeans will be o.k. because I have some really cute ideas!

Awwww those are so cute! I love them. I am not sure you need to add anything but if you want to you could add a 1 since it is his first birthday. Or a bunch of balloons? Or a cake?

So cute you did a great job!

so yeah i finally got enough posts racked up to post my creations...

i made my dd this cute little tinkerbell skirt out of leftover fabric that i had laying around...

100_1471.jpg

and i also made this pillowcase dress with leftover fabric...it says once upon a time little princess

100_1473.jpg

so let me know what ya all think...i have been in awe of everyone's designs...

Lisa, I think all your outfits are adorable. I don't think the pirate skirt needs anything else--just a cute top to go with it. Maybe just a plain black shirt. The Pirate & Princess Party is great--you will have so much fun!!

A dress my DD wore at Sea World...

Great dress! Looks like you are in the cove where you can see the dolphins.

Thank you for posting this. I have a few more questions. I understand the foot is clear--great to be able to see what you are stitching. Now, here are the questions. What exactly does the quilters foot do? Is it for embroidery? Would you use this instead of hand stitching on an applique? Why couldn't you use a satin stitch for the outline of pluto? I am going to go back and re-read your post to see if I can understand a little better. Thanks again Sally!

You have to start some place. Maybe start with a basic applique--like the Mickey ears. I started sewing by making my son's halloween costumes. I could practice using the machine and it was something that he most likely would only wear once or twice over Halloween so I wasn't so hard on myself as far as imperfections. Patterns can be very intimidating but they will quickly teach you sewing vocabulary!

Keep asking questions here. There are lots of talented ladies (and a gentleman!!) here who would be happy to help! Heck, I learned to applique using this thread!

Okay, I know that this is OT. But how many AMYs (any spelling) are on this thread. I know I have seen quite a few.
I am an AMY.

Aimeeg- Love the fantasmic idea. I would make it longer like Mickey's robe is. I also agree that the Hat appliqued on the T would be something a little different and special.
Does anyone else feel like we are being taken over by Amys? My sister is an Amy!

Lovin' all the new stuff and everyone has done a great job!!

Wondering something else....
I know there was/is a big meet up at the Hancock in Michigan (I hope I got that right) and there was tons of people that did/are going. I thought it might be fun to know where everyone lives -- if you don't mind sharing. Just recently I found a couple of people involved in this thread that live within 45 minutes of me. You never know, there might be even more people that could do a 'meet-up' on here. And, it might be a way of people getting there hands on some that hard to find material everyone keeps searching for.

Anyways, I live in Atlanta!
I am north of Atlanta in South Forsyth, but any time we are on vacation and we meet someone, we always say we are from ATL!

OMG I just found this thread!! I'm obssessed with my children's clothes to begin with but then to find this!!! Thanks for sharing everyone! Off to look for some ideas! :)
