I bought these from a really nice lady on a *popular auction site*. ;)
We are going to wear them to Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner.

I bought these from a lady on you-know-where. They are to wear to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Sadly we were unable to get Hoop Dee Doo  So, I am making the best of it by dressing the girls up. The jean dress is just a GAP jumper she jazzed up. I think it needs something but my DD8 will not wear it if it's too frou frou.

Whew! This was another first for me: sewing without a pattern! I used the instructions for the boutique twirly skirt on Teresa's bookmarks and it came out great. I did use a pattern for the top, but it was simple. Of course, it was too short on my amazon girl so I added a couple of ruffles to the bottom so she's not giving a peep show!

And, DS asked me to make him some matching board shorts! Woo hoo! So, it's back to JoAnn's for me.

Here is the back, I guess I should have measured her, because it gaps a little. I should have made the elastic shorter but I just followed the pattern.

Twirling, of course!

Don't look at the appliqué too closely, it's not perfect! Hey, look we got her ears pierced yesterday. She wanted me to put her hair up in a scrunchie to show them off:

Hi Utah Mama,

Instead of cutting the notches in a triangle outward, I cut them off completly. Then I cut a little line in the pattern where the notch used to be. Now instead of having to match the cut triangles, you just have to match the little cut lines(notches). It looks much better from the inside of the garment, as well as saving time trying to cut the little triangles.

The notches are used to line the fabric up to make sure that your seams will be accurate.

This is a little hint that my MIL taught me a very long time ago. She used to be a garment worker (seamstress) in the union, and that's how all their garments were notched.

I hope this helped.

And of course I HAD to try the pimped out Wally World dresses!!! I bought 2 pink ones and my older DD8 (skinny little thing) is going to wear a size 4t as a halter top w/ black capris. They did not have a 4t red dress so DD8 will wear a twirl skirt in Minnie colors when DD2 wears the red dress.

I do love to dress the girls alike. 2 years and 5 months ago.... it all started with a Gymboree addiction. Quickly moved on to more expensive boutique clothing and finally to customs. Now I am *saving* so much $$$ making my own customs... ha! :lmao:

Ok Pros - when you applique a cotton applique on a knit shirt do you use the knit needle or your regular needle?

For newbies like me - I bought a gathering foot today - oh my goodness - it is amazing - soooo fast - no more double basting and pulling the threads. Didn't even know it existed until today!

that gathering foot is the best $30 I ever spent. it is quicker and easier!

I finished my DD AK outfit, or so I thought. I loved the fabric for the top and since she is almost 8 I wanted to not make it Disney, but something she could wear elsewhere. Now that it is done I find myself wanting to put some Mickey heads on or something, but not sure what to do. The shorts are made of a linen material, not just cotton and are pretty themselves as they are. I don't want to ruin it, but can't help but think about how to make it more Disney. Any suggestions??

Also Thank you to Dena I think for the idea of using dental floss for gathers/ruffles. I was taught at sewing class to use the bobbin thread and could never do it on my own at home, so I had quit doing them all together until that suggestion.

- Pirate something for the Pirate Cruise and Adventureland.
- Something very Minnie.
- Something for Fantasyland. I am doing Dumbo smocking for the babes.
- Nemo dress for Epcot until she changes into the Belle get up so she can dance with the Beast.
- Need something for MGM
- Nees something for Animal Kingdom.
- Something super cute for Ohano's Lilo breakfast. I wonder if I could do Lilo's dress???
Here is some quick ideas for you from our last trip a few weeks ago!

My Easy Peasy $78 brother from Walmarshay doesn't have a satin /applique stitch per say. In the confusing manual, it just describes a zig zag stitch. POOH! What if I go over it a few times and the stitches aren't exactly even.?
SO! My appliques will be zig zagged in a rustic (which means "very imperfect") fashion.

On a great note, I grabbed the last 2 yards of that orange Mickey Halloween print at Joanns AND the Boo fabric to go with it. Plus a little remnant to do an applique/rough zig zag on the front of whatever I'm making. Maybe I'll use fabric puffy paint. (Remember That??)

AND, my Teal Ariel jumper is complete! It features rick rack waves and fishie buttons! Miss Norah will be wearing it to Coral Reef this Sept. She has a lovely fever and is throwing up today or I'd post it (in all it's glory). Which explains why she's been especially "lovely" lately.

To You Pro's-
On a paper pattern such as McCalls, why are the little triangle notches pointed inward yet when you pin the pattern to your fabric you cut them outward? I can't get them just right. I actually cut them inward like the pattern on my purple Ariel outfit. It worked out, but don't they know doofuses are buying their "Easy" patterns?

Wait, DO you cut them inward? I need to sleep.
Random Thought- I saw Patterns for Dummies today! YAY! They saw me coming! :3dglasses

Next time you are at Wal-mart get one of those fabric pens (my favorite is blue on one side and purple on the other) and mark the triangles and dots and darts and all of that with the pen instead of cutting it. The pen will either disapear over time or in water and I think it is a lot more accurate than I can get cutting the triangles. Once you've sewn a few things you probably will be able to tell which one's you'll need and which ones you can kinda ignore. I sometimes even just hold the pattern piece up when I need to know where the notches were.

Great Idea these are adorable and it is nice to see stuff for the older girls.

THis is really cute. Great look for an older girl. I am not sure if I would add anything. I love the trim on the bottom of the shirt. Maybe you could get some Disney jewelry or hairbows?

For anyone sewing using the red minnie dot, check you local Walmart. I bought a bolt today for only $2.00 a yard. The never have it. They brought it in, for costumes. I also got a cute Disney print with Minnie building a snow man, and Mickey sledding, I think... I will be posting photos this afternoon.

Cool! :thumbsup2 Is it the Minnie Dot with the bigger dots? That's a great deal! Thanks for posting.

It's the darker red, not the bright orangy red, and the dots are about the size of half dollars, not the little dots. The really large dot, Michael Miller style is at Joann's for 7 dollars a yard..Yikes...
I do have a confession, I bought 2 yards of this gorgeous organza with little red roses all over it for my dd's christmas dress...LOL It was over 12 dollars a yard...

Now I just need the time. (of course last weekend I spent it reading Harry Potter). \

That's the same reason I haven't been on either and a friend borrowed my sewing machine! I finished the audiobook Wed. and been wanting to sew the last few days, but can't. I'm going through sewing withdrawls!! I did try a no sew AK tank for me, but one side got more gathered than the other and it looks funny. Guess I didn't find the exact center with tank all stretched out. Oh, well. Whenever I make things for me it never works!

I think it looks really nice the way it is. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for how to disneyfy it. It looks great!

I think both dresses look perfect just the way they are. As they get older less is sometimes more, as the saying goes. Your daughters are going to look gorgeous in all their customs.
I, too, had a Gymboree addiction, I thought I could reuse my older daughter's clothes for my younger, but no I had to buy 2 of everything so they could match. The younger one has sooo many clothes. Good thing my 3rd child was a boy, that has saved me a lot of $$.

Need some opinions...

I have an adorable pirate tutu set for DD for Halloween. I want to make her a cool Trick or Treat bag to match, so I bought a black tote at Hobby Lobby, but I can't decide what to put on it.

I thought this was cute, but the hair bothers me a little. (DD is only 3, so not too scary!)

Or I thought this was sort of cute for a ToT bag...booty=candy...pirate: but maybe too "suggestive" for a 3 year old? :confused3 (not to me, but I guess other people might think its weird?)

Or there's this face, too:

Or I'm open to any other suggestions! Thanks!
