The link for the bookmarks can be found in the first post in this thread and in teresajoy's signature (she found most of them, gathered them all up, and organzed them for us!). I'll add the link to my siggy, too so it'll be easier to find.

Thanks a bunch!!

FYI =
to answer the question "who made these" ...
I made these outfits for
Austinsmommy/iluvwdw4ever =)!

Thanks for all the compliments!

No transfers, iron-ons or pre-made/computer appliques/embroideries.
All were made with custom design&made hand-cut&pieced appliques :)

I made the pattern for the twirl skirt as I went along.

I'm NOT POSTING TO SELL, ok?!
It's just a "whodunnit". ;)

Thanks again, for the nice words! Good Will To All! :goodvibes

Your work is amazing!!!! Absolutely amazing!

This fabric is adorable!!!!

I vote for twirl skirts. I think you should just get all of the colors in it (turquise dots, yellow stripes, orange gingham, etc.) and mix them all up. Get a bunch of different colored rick-rack and sew over some of the sections. This is a great print!

I got some adorable guitar fabric at hancock's this week. I paid $7.99 for it:scared1: , but I wanted it soooo bad. Now I want to go get this too, but the colors are almost identical. Did it come in any other colors?

Oh, and you could applique an icecream cone on a tank top for each of the girls. You could use beads to make the sprinkles!

GREAT ideas! So, are you thinking patchwork twirl skirt? Hmm, I wanted to make 5 outfits out of this, so that is probably the way to go. Ideally I would find even more of this out there somewhere! This is for our Beaches and Cream visit, and I really wanted all 5 of the girls to have outfits.

Heather has volunteered to make ice cream cone applique shirts (well, I'm pretty sure she volunteered!)I love the sprinkle idea!!!

This was the only color I found. I got it at Joanns

OMG, you guys are so amazing and so inspiring. I don't sew. I have a sewing machine for 3 yrs now that I am too scared to take out of the box.lol

Any tips for a newbie. I'm not going to try anything like you guys but I would like to get started.

There are some sewing how to links on my bookmarks site, check it out. (link in siggy and in op of this thread)
I finished DD's babydoll/twirl top that goes with her Smiles Around the World capri set!!

Here's the original set. It's great on it's own!! I loved the fabric so much that I made a twirl top to go with it!!

IMG_1443.jpg

I made the top to match. I couldn't come up with a fabric I loved for the bodice so I used a denim looking material.

IMG_1553.jpg

Very cute!!!!

I hate appliqueing!!

That's all I have to say right now.

I hate shirring.

Enjoy!

I can't believe I am saying this, but I am headed out to the fabric store!

There is a sporting goods store right next door, I might have to pop in there when I am done to boost back my testosterone level!

Great things everyone is posting!

Keep up on the good work, and very inspiring ideas!

She is ADORABLE in the dress!!! She looks so happy!!! I showed the picture to Brian, and he was pretty impressed too.

okay this is for my DD8

and this one is for DD2 bt I haven't made her shirt yet.

I LOVE these!!!! How wide are the tiers on your first skirt? That is a great use of that fabric! The bottom one is adorable as well! DH is looking over my shoulder, and he says he really likes them too! (hmm, maybe he is getting inspired by Tom to try to sew something!)

dressesjuly2007018.jpg

back of skirt
I made 2 skirts like this. Now I have to make or buy shirts to match.

Great job, very cute!

Buzz pillowcase dress fro DD2. I *attempted* shorts to match for DS5 and that was a disaster! I also made a tank top dress to match for DD8 and she strongly dislikes it and refuses to ever wear it. :sad1:
It looks cute on her (a little wrinkled in the picture) but she is not in the mood to model.

I love this! Very cute outfit!

Ok here it is.. I found this dress at the thrift store for my dd (11) and thought it would make a great cruise dress. I added the sailor collar and the applique of symbol of the DCL. How does it look? Do you think I should add anything to the front and if so what? It is for an older girl so she doesn't want it too frilly or babyish as she would say. It was hard to explain why I made this dress to her since the cruise is a suprise!

Now I am off to check out all the outfits/posts I missed today while busy sewing.

This is really cute! I'm thinking maybe a little something in the front would be nice.

:cheer2: And, a great big thank you to Heather (hkite) for helping me to organize the bookmarks site!!!! And, for adding it to your siggy too!! :cheer2:

FYI: This thread began 1-30-07. I joined 2-24-07, for THIS Thread.
I l-o-v-e to sew, applique & help. I am NOT here to SELL.

I made some custom outfits for someone, in a private sale.
I've been sewing for her for 2-2.5 years. :)
She posted several pixs of her children Here.
They were pictured wearing MY creations/outfits AND others'. :)
Many "who made it" questions & PMs, quickly popped up,
She didn't know what to say on my behalf,
To be nice & save time, I posted a simple "I-made-that-for-her",
I added the pixs of the outfits I had made (to not take credit for others').
I was just pointing out the ones I had made: to answer the ?'s.
I meant NOTHING more to it. :)!

I Really Loved Seeing Pixs of them wearing my work! :)
It was my 1st time seeing them! I'm glad they fit & looked nice.
Thanks for all the nice compliments!:)

I am Sorry, IF anyone MISTOOK what I wrote, to mean something else, OR to be "snotty".
I did NOT mean THAT, at all.
It wasn't NOT "code" for anything.

On a more pleasant note :)

I would not get upset. I think your outfits are beautiful and you worked very hard on them! I am an artist by profession and you put your heart and soul into every creation. Those childrens faces were priceless and your outfits had a little something to do with it!

Thanks for sharing your pics! I enjoyed them.

Teresajoy,

Isn't your daughter the big Bambi fan? I found some Bambi fabric in one of my piles of fabric. It is your if you want it.:goodvibes

I just wanted to thank everyone for the prayers and best wishes...We aprreciate them all.. Our Pediatrician called (She is on vacation this week and not only gave us her cell phone number but has called us ever day to check in) It looks like we are going for and EEG next week and probably an MRI...

Heather - PT stands for physical therapy...

I pm'd you earlier. We are going through the same thing right now. Our DD is 12 months and she is doing that eye rolling thing. It is scary as can be! We had a terrible experience with the EEG today. They expected a 12 month old baby to sleep randomly at 10 o'clock while a technician attached 21 electrodes to her forehead only using cold cream and gause.

What the heck!! For lack of inappropriate word!!!

Our Neur would not let her be sedated. Seizures apparently do not happen while they are sedated??? I would call ahead and find out all the specifics of you EEG. We wasted an entire day. The tech said the test was so sensitive she could not even turn her head during the procedure. That is almost impossible for an adult let alone a baby!

They have to sedate her for the MRI. There are only two hospital is the DC metro area that do this and we are on the waitlist for September!!! I would just find out as many specifics as you can ahead of time. I will make a trying time much easier for you.

My Easy Peasy $78 brother from Walmarshay doesn't have a satin /applique stitch per say. In the confusing manual, it just describes a zig zag stitch. POOH! What if I go over it a few times and the stitches aren't exactly even.?
SO! My appliques will be zig zagged in a rustic (which means "very imperfect") fashion.

On a great note, I grabbed the last 2 yards of that orange Mickey Halloween print at Joanns AND the Boo fabric to go with it. Plus a little remnant to do an applique/rough zig zag on the front of whatever I'm making. Maybe I'll use fabric puffy paint. (Remember That??)

AND, my Teal Ariel jumper is complete! It features rick rack waves and fishie buttons! Miss Norah will be wearing it to Coral Reef this Sept. She has a lovely fever and is throwing up today or I'd post it (in all it's glory). Which explains why she's been especially "lovely" lately.

To You Pro's-
On a paper pattern such as McCalls, why are the little triangle notches pointed inward yet when you pin the pattern to your fabric you cut them outward? I can't get them just right. I actually cut them inward like the pattern on my purple Ariel outfit. It worked out, but don't they know doofuses are buying their "Easy" patterns?

Wait, DO you cut them inward? I need to sleep.
Random Thought- I saw Patterns for Dummies today! YAY! They saw me coming! :3dglasses

Ok Pros - when you applique a cotton applique on a knit shirt do you use the knit needle or your regular needle?

For newbies like me - I bought a gathering foot today - oh my goodness - it is amazing - soooo fast - no more double basting and pulling the threads. Didn't even know it existed until today!

Okay, so we went to WDW is June. Dh was hooked and we are going back the first week of March! he he he

I never even heard of "customs" until returning home. I was looking for a pattern for the blue Belle dress and was directed here. Now I am hooked!!!

I am a really big planner. I know we have seven months until vaca but . . . we have a lot going on in that time. DH will be changing jobs and he is in grad school. Other words no help from him. I make reproduciton vintage Christmas Decorations so my super omg busy season is about to come crashing on my sun kissed by the salon blond head!

So I have august to make my plan for customs. I can work hear and there on it in the fall but not much. I really have Jan, Feb to crank out her creations. I know for the baby I am going to do smocked dresses. I can work on those during down moments at my shows. Those I am not so much worried about. Now my DD who will be almost four needs customs!!!

I need help planning what "areas" I should do customs for. Okay, I will let you in on a little secreat. My guilty pleasure is the Girls Next Door. It is a little scary how much Bridgette and I are alike with the themes!!! Here is what I was thinking so far. . .

- Pirate something for the Pirate Cruise and Adventureland.
- Something very Minnie.
- Something for Fantasyland. I am doing Dumbo smocking for the babes.
- Nemo dress for Epcot until she changes into the Belle get up so she can dance with the Beast.
- Need something for MGM
- Nees something for Animal Kingdom.
- Something super cute for Ohano's Lilo breakfast. I wonder if I could do Lilo's dress???

We have seven park days and are doing a bunch of character meals. I am going to look at the picture link for inspiration but any ideas would be great!!!

ETA- Does anyone have experience with the weather this time of year?

Utah Mama -
I am so with you on the little triangle notches on patterns. When I don't just cut right past it, mine are never even and they don't match up like they are supposed to. Glad to know I'm not alone with that.

I am soo impressed with all the wonderfulness I see here!
I tried to upload some pics of outfits I made for our trip to Disnyland a few months ago, but they won't come up!:confused3
I will keep trying.
Anyhow, we are going to WDW in Oct & I am loving all the inspiration on this thread!!

Elastic thread help
I finally convinced my mom to get some elastic thread to make a dress for my DD. But when she used it she said it kept breaking and knotting up. She has been sewing for over 40 years but never with this thread. She thinks it is probably her machine since it is close to 40 years old. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Jill

I am certainly no expert, but I'll tell you how I do it. I hand wind the elastic thread around the bobbin, making it a little bit tight. I use plain thread for the top. The elastic thread has never broken or knotted for me. I know it's not much help.

Aimee

I answered your PM... WOW... Our Ped told me yesterday that she wanted Emma sedated.. This must be why.. You are right,, The eye rolling thing is Scary as heck.. My normally calm DH is completely freaked which doesn't help me.. I guess if we don;t get answers at the Vermont Children's Hospital which has been wonderful, our Neuro will be sending us to Boston.

I am so thankful for our Ped... When she suspected something was up and made the referral to Burlington, and we had a 6 week wait to get in, she called the Neuro every day and within 3 days we were "fit in".. The waiting is awful. We will definitely have to keep each other posted..

Here are some photos of my DD in her dress!

Tom, I must say this is one of the prettiest dresses I've seen! You have a wonderful eye for color and detail. There is much more to sewing then the machine!!

I've been sewing since I was 10 years old. Rarely for myself, since I have trouble fitting to my own person. I also have to be very motivated. The last few years, the motivation has been Disney World. I always thought I had a good eye for color and detail, but some of these outfits make me feel like an amatuer. I guess I am in the design world. I'm even impressed by the new sewers making the darling pillowcase dresses.

I've got a lot of inspiration from everyone and some great ideas. Now I just need the time. (of course last weekend I spent it reading Harry Potter). I went back to work about 3 weeks ago after being on medical for 7 months. I'm having a hard time keeping up with reading!!! But I love everyones silouettes and models.

Ick! Poor Norah! Poor you!

Wait, DO you cut them inward? I need to sleep.
I don't even get what they are for. Are they just to match up different sections or do they have something to do with the curve? I'm so confused!
Random Thought- I saw Patterns for Dummies today! YAY! They saw me coming! :3dglasses
Where did you find patterns for dummies? I am so clueless!

- Something for Fantasyland. I am doing Dumbo smocking for the babes.

What about Cinderella smocking for the older girl? There were some really cute ones posted awhile back.

So I went to Wal Mart last night and bought some material and some patterns.
I come home and fix Tammy's pirate costume first.
Put it on the sewing machine.
And the lever for my foot breaks! Ack!
I tried sewing without the foot, but it's not so pretty. So after I finish basting everything, I guess I'll head out to my mom's and use her machine.
