Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

No overedge stitch. My new machine is the $78 Brother from Walmart. Ten simple stitches. It as simple as the ones I sewed with in Jr. High :rolleyes1 . I figured as I got better, I'd get a nice one. (I don't even know how to use a serger :upsidedow ).

I hate raw edges too. The best I could to is use pinking shears to clean them up. Grrrrr. So, if any of you see my dd in real life at WDW this Sept, don't you dare sneak a peek at the inside seams :cool2:

Hahahaha....I agree....sneaking peeks inside any of the outfits I try to make would be a nightmare too!! Hahaha

Also, I would love some input on gathering. I have been just sewing one line of stitching (using the widest stitch on my machine) and then gathering. I have seen on a couple of sites suggestions that your should run 2 lines of stitching. Would love to hear what others do!!!

I have tried the zig zag stitch with elastic thread and have found it works for very long gathers. I use the double row of basting stitches for small lengths. I have asked several "seasoned" seamstresses and this was their choice--but maybe it's because that is the way they teach you in school. Have not tried floos--think you need unwaxed floss. Good luck!

Great Peter Costume!! Costumes were my first go at sewing. I then moved on to pillowcases for our Disney trip last year, and now I am making actual "wear out of the house" clothing. You have to start some place--great start!!

Great Job!

don't forget about night time to roam around the hotel in!!!

Lori

Oh no! Now pjs for our trip too??? Good thing I have 15 months until our trip!!

Great job! Love the Ariel outfit! DD picked Ariel as her first princess outfit for me to make!

I know I missed a few pages but I only had an hour to speed through. Sewing has given me something else to do at night besides sit on the couch watching repeats!!

I know thousands of posts back we were talking about autograph books and someone, sorry I forget who, was able to forward a great one. I believe castlecreations posted a picture of her finished one, as well. I made one also and just want to add a few things having just gotten back from a great, albeit a bit tiring, 13 days.

1. The characters absolutely LOVED it and every single one made a HUGE deal out of it. It is so worth it to have one. If you are planning on doing the autograph thing, I would highly suggest using some sort of a personalized book.

2. The following characters (that we were able to get) are missing from the book:
Peter Pan--not sure how he wasn't there
Horace Horsefeather (He's Clarabelle Cow's boyfriend)
Ratty (from Ratatouille)
There could be more, but these were the only ones we encountered who didn't have their own page. Horace and Ratty didn't even know, but we did feel sort of bad for Peter, since he is a face character and he could see that Wendy had her own page. We had him sign there. We had such fun collecting signatures and got over 60!!!

I figured out how to applique! I am so excited. How does it look? I had to stitch over the edges twice to make it as thick as I wanted it.

Shorts to go with this top

IMG_4918.jpg

DD is asleep so she can't try them on.

I went to Wal-Mart and found some size 3t shorts for DS and I am going to applique them with Bandanna fabric Mickey Heads and a Friends around the world applique also. Not sure how to do the Friends around the world pair. We'll see.

I would like to find some for DD too and applique. I am wishing I had bought a pair of size 5t for her. I am wondering since they were boys then they would fit her? She is rather slim. Uggh I don't want to go back. Maybe I'll make her a dress.

I made her a dress with the friends around the world fabric and she says she won't wear it. Hmm we'll see about that when we get to Epcot! :rotfl2: It turned out really long! I was going to add a picture but the camera battery died. Maybe tomorrow.

A couple of questions.

1 - how do you applique?

and

2 - Does anyone have the template of the Mickey silhouette so I can try to applique.

TIA

tooooo cutie patootie i am loving them

i think they are darling i have a 2 yr old who could wear some of those i think i may copy you also and make him some. i love the white gloves on the pockets that is a cute touch my son is obssessed with the mickey mouse clubhouse he would love something like that.

everyone else great job on the outfits they are very creative and you should be proud of yourselves..

Eeyore's Tiara: i know you blink and there are pages of cute stuff i would have to do 4 of each for my boys (maybe that is why i do not have the energy yet. ) i do only have one girl i could just sew for her ..

Hey I had 4 brothers, I say forget the boys and sew, sew, sew for the girl. With that many brothers, she truly deserves a break!:goodvibes :rotfl2:

Hahahaha....I agree....sneaking peeks inside any of the outfits I try to make would be a nightmare too!! Hahaha

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I totally missed Utahmama saying that about looking inside the outfit. :rotfl: :rotfl: I know EXACTLY what she means. If you see a custom outfit, don't look inside!:scared:

I don't know how far back it is, but someone on here had instructions for appliquing. Maybe they will repost it for you. It is a satin stitch, but there are different ways of doing it. Some use heat bond before appliquing and some don't.

Are you looking for the Mickey head? I think Castle has that one and it is posted back closer to the front of the thread. I'll see if I can spot it and let you know where it is if someone doesn't tell you first.:thumbsup2 A suggestion is that you look on the disboard design site for the mickey/minnie head!

Hey, I found one!

Hi Everyone...I want to make something with this fabric I have but I am not quite sure on what exactly. I was thinking maybe a twirl skirt, possibly one made out of strips using this fabric and maybe solid colors that match the circles??? HELP?? I would LOVE some cool suggestions!!!

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

It's all your fault! MY grownup niece saw this top and knows that I have some of this fabric left and now wants me to make her and my other niece, grown 20 something year olds, a shirt with this fabric.:sad2: Like I didnt have enough girls to sew for already.:guilty:

Hey! You don't volunteer to sew do you??:rotfl2: :goodvibes I LOVE the shorts. It's perfect with the top. God forbid they see the shorts....:rotfl:

I love this material!

This is just a suggestion. Have you seen the skirts that are made from strips of fabric on here? This would be cute if you used it with strips of fabric in different patterns in the same color as the dots. Like blue with white dots or red with white dots, red striped, or yellow gingham. I would just take the fabric to the store and layout anything in the matching colors, no matter what the pattern, and see what happens. You never know what's going to match. Did you see the black, white, red dress with aqua accents awhile back? It was unusual and very pretty. Hopefully you'll get several ideas from people on here! Good luck!:thumbsup2

Thanks Eeyore's Tiara. I appreciate it.

You're very welcome!:goodvibes If I can find the info on the appliquing, I will post it for you!

Great idea about using photoshop. I didn't even think of that, duh. Here are a few I had in mind.
The mickey one, there would be gloves appliqued to the pockets.
mickeyjonjon.jpg

A Winnie the Pooh one, possibly, he is not a huge WtP fan but, we are going to CP for his birthday breakfast.
poohoutfit.jpg

Another just mickey one. I actually having cooling neckwraps in the fabric, lol.

Well, what do you think, any other ideas? Dh thinks they look kind of girly but, whatever, they are only this little once. :goodvibes

Oh and hey I want some of those mickey jammies for ME!!!

LOVE the Mickey Jon Jon!!
I have a Pooh Jon Jon made out of the brighter Pooh in the Park fabric. I really should take the time to learn how to post pics so when all my boys' custom outfits are done you can see them.

Oh, I just checked it out! Your family is adorable!! I loved your mini-trip-report! :) Looks like you all had a wonderful time! Great pictures! Thanks so much for sharing!

Also, I have a question for you that is a little OT...I have a lot of boutique bows for my dd to wear on our trip, and I was wondering how did you transport yours to WDW so they arrived in good condition? I spent too much $$ on them, for them to get ruined in transit ;)

Thanks! :goodvibes

I just wanted to give my idea. Walmart has some large plastic pencil/crayon boxes in school supplies that would hold about 6 larger bows. They were only about $3. You could do that and wrap them loosly in tissue paper. Just an idea. But you may also use a baby wipes box, old cereal box (may get crushed), put them inside some shoes (if there not smelly :rotfl2: ), a shoe box, paper towel roll if the bows are smaller. Good luck!

How about this? I'll sew some tops for your nieces and you can come :laundy: and clean the bathrooms. Sort of a barter system? I suppose you won't go for that since you already have to sew for your DD's. I am leaving for Disney next Friday so I've got no time!!

Maybe your nieces could help with some of the cutting and shopping? Send them to the fabric store to find their patterns etc.

The shorts would be very easy. I bought them for $6.99 at old navy, washed them, cut out the little square of fabric. Ironed Heat n' Bond Lite on the back then peeled the paper off the back and Ironed the square onto the shorts. Then I stitched around the square.

You have to use Heat n' Bond Lite not Heat n' Bond Ultra. Apparently Heat n' Bond Ultra will really gunk up your needle. Your fabric and your jeans, shorts, or whatever must be prewashed also to get all the starch out of the fabrics so it will stick well.

OK you guys. Be nice. DONT be honest ;) ...

This tube dress I did just to re-teach myself simple stitches. It's kinda cute in real life. :cutie:

Then. I got brave and went a leeetle bit over my head skill wise. I'll blame ALL of you for that...

Without a shirt underneath... (DD's name is Norah and she's turning 3 next month, in't she cuuuute?)

P7253608.jpg

With a shirt underneath. (We almost always have a lycra shirt underneath sleeveless clothing)
P7253611.jpg

I have a couple more projects staring at me. One has a LINING :scared1:

Here's one she was especially cooperative with. This photo shoot took far too long. Me, being brilliant, did this when it was nap time. :rolleyes1

P7253621.jpg

Bravo Utahmama!!! Excellent work! Norah is getting sooooo big!!! Wow! But she is just cute as a button :flower3: Glad to see you all again! Keep sewing...love it so far!!!
I like shirts underneath too....;)

Have y'all seen this $600.00 Halloween costume?:
bo-peep.gif

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

$600.00! We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside for 5 nights for $585.00

I think I know where I'd rather spend my money.

There is a lot of work in that dress but, how many girls really want a Bo Peep costume?
