I can't wait to check out this thread everyday to see the new outfits. I just love them all!!

I think I've becomee officially addicted! DD has decided she wants her Tink overalls to have the gaucho ruffled legs. So, we went to Wal-Mart to find some fabric to coordinte with the Tink fabric. While we were there I showed her the pre-shirred fabric they had there and she loved them. I ended up buying a yard of her favorite. That night I made a top for her and matching dress for her doll.

Yesterday I went to JoAnn's during my lunch hour (my 3rd trip in 2 weeks) to browse fabrics. I found some Mickey and friends hawaiian fabric in the clearance section that will be perfect to make something for our dinner at 'Ohana. I'm thinking matching t's for my kids and my niece and nephew. Maybe a matching skirt for DD if she'll let me. When I showed DH my latest purchase he said, "You are on quite the sewing kick aren't you. What caused that?" LOL, if he only knew...

AND, I've been trying to find a pattern for a 1920's style evening/flapper dress- you now something Roaring 20'sish and can't find a darned thing, so if you have or have seen LMK!

...t.

Keep an eye out for costume patterns. My mom made me a flapper dress for halloween when I was in college. (As an aside, the only big, potentially-relationship-ending fight DH (then BF) and I ever got in was over that dress.:rotfl2:)

Ok!! To say that I have been busy is an understatement!!! DS plays travel ball and has had 2 games this week!! My sister is getting married TOMORROW so that's a whole nother can of worms!! I am SELF EMPLOYED and my husband is taking 16 hours this summer semester!!! I have a DD that stays at work with me. . BUT ANYWHO!!!

I have worked on a little red and white dress from Walmart. . .will post as soon as I get her to put it on!!! She likes it and it fits like a shirt (they only had a 3T)

But I have completed a WHOLE OUTFIT!!! (Please hold the applause til you see it !!!)

I will post pictures of her IN IT later today or maybe tomorrow!! I still have to alter the strap on the bridesmaids dress that I have to wear tomorrow!!!

SUPER cute! You did a great job!

There are more benefits to this sewing thing than just cute outfits for the kids. I was a nail biter for 30+ years. Since I've been sewing so much over the past several weeks I've quit and my nails now extend past my fingertips for the first time in my entire life! Sewing really is a stress buster!

When my grandma passed away in 00' my mom made me take her sewing machine. I had every intention of learning how to sew...and I still have no clue. Anyone know where I can go for classes? Or did you all self-learn?

I'd love to be able to sew things for my daughter. ;)

Wow! That must have been some dress. Now I am dying to see it.

JoAnn and other fabric stores often offer sewing classes. Our city Parks and Recreation department also offers classes (cheaper).

I learned in 4-H and from my mom, although I can only do the basics. But, I think you can learn a lot by reading the sewing machine manual and practicing, too. :)

Welcome to the thread!

I finally got around to taking a picture of DS in one of the outfits... as well as his CKP "Buddy" matching outfit...

No... It was just a plain flapper dress. He was being stupid.

It was just a black shift dress with fringe. It had spaghetti straps but it went down to my knees, so it's not like I was showing a lot of skin. Even my *Dad* said it looked really nice.

I was in architecture school at the time (90% male) and everyone was used to seeing me after all-nighters and covered in sawdust. When one of my classmates found out I'd be wearing a dress (gasp!) to the halloween party, he made some sort of "hubba hubba. Can't wait to see that." comment.

My DH (then BF) heard it and took it the wrong way. He thought this guy was way too interested in what I would be wearing to the party. DH/BF didn't want me to wear the dress because "he knows how guys think" and it wasn't an innocent comment. I totally think it was (still do think that).

He said some stupid stuff and I got really mad and told him to get out (we were at my parents' house getting ready). I dramatically insisted that my Dad throw DH/BF out of the house. He didn't...he just chuckled. But DH/BF could have walked out that night and I was so mad I'm not sure I would have cared. ;) 14 years later, I'm glad he didn't though. LOL

That dress is still somewhere at my parents house. We didn't end up going to the party, so it's never been out of the house. I wonder if it will still fit? I'm still the same "size" but stuff's moved around since then, if you know what I mean, so I'm not sure it'd look quite the same. ;)

DH would be annoyed if he knew I brought up that story though. He doesn't like to talk about it. He still insists that guy had "motives"...which is funny because DH usually isn't a jealous guy. ;)

TravelinGal, how stinkin cute is that? I love it - both outfits and your son is so handsome!

All of the outfits posted recently are awesome! Everyone does such great work! I'm hoping to have my Buzz set finished this afternoon. Guess I'd better get back to the machine!

DisneyFreak- The material you picked out is delicious! I love it! Can't wait to see the polakadot dress!

Disneyfreak74 - cue top and skirt! i haven't gotten up the courage to combine patterned fabric. I really need to try that

I need to clarify something on the aplique, I only sewed around the edges, not the inside of the little fairy. Thank you for all the praise though, I find it kind of addicting

Oh! She looks so cute in that! You can see the appliques on the legs on your daughter. VERY CUTE!!! Of course, I loved it before (on Gracie) too!

I ain't skeered. I laugh in the face of applique-ing! Ha Ha Ha Ha. ...If there is no minnie face, assume that the applique went very wrong. Its a good possibility.

Your post has me cracking up! :rotfl:

Adorable!!! I love the fabrics you chose! I can't wait to see your daughter in it.

There are some online articles you can look at and that might help you out. Look at my bookmarks under Techniques and, oh shoot, what did I name that?? anyway, it's techniques and tips? maybe?? There are some good articles there.
