Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

Castle Creations...just curious which auction was it for? The Minnie One? Because is it me, or do the "other" big time sellers, (hugely expensive) seem to get their panties in a wad about the Disney customs the most?

Well, as you all know. I borrowed that idea for the jumper dress from one I saw on Ebay like over a year ago. Now the eBay sharks are out to get me. I posted the outfit and I'm getting tons of messages from the members of the group about the outfit that I listed. They aren't happy with me.
Now since I have bids, what do I do?
Should I end the auction early and lay low?
Or should I just not respond, and hold my ground. The buttons are different and the pants are totally different, also some of the fabric choices. So it's not exactly the same...:rolleyes1
Any advise would be great. I don't want to get in trouble with Ebay either...

I agree with the majority... stick it out and ignore them. You have just as much right to sew anything you want as they do. And as previously posted, you're not advertising that it's just like so-&-so's which probably isn't copyrighted anyway. We love your work and you deserve to get paid for it, just like everyone else!

OK, here's the pants. I used the tired ruffled pants from YCMT.com, and the instructions looked really easy. I started on them Sunday morning, and I thought I would be finished with them by the end of the day. I just finished them yesterday evening. The first ruffle was easy to put on, but the middle took me a while to get on. The third one at the bottom was a real pain in the neck!

I started with a pair of pink shorts from Old Navy.

The shirts they are wearing are only a temporary piece until I get the shirts made to match. I have to get the Wiggles outfits finished before I start on them though. The matching shirt will be made from the same fabric as the middle ruffle (blue background with pink and purple stars).

ETA: The one in the big, red flip flops is really confident that she is wearing those today.
My plans and her plans aren't the same.

WOW!! Love them very cute!

Is it just me, or have we become quite the band of outlaws!!! It seems there is always some kind of fuss about this thread!!:rotfl:

Unless there's is some type of copyright I would stick it out....Ebay can be a little rough because folks are unecessarily harsh but keep in mind "tons of messages" probably is NOT as many folks as you think it just feels that way because they can be nasty. Good lord there's not too many original ideas on ebay just slight variations that make things slightly unique from seller to seller. Really if copyright is an issue how many of them are licensed to sell these outfits by Disney anyway? (not that I care or would want them to be) Certainly they are close enough for Disney to make an issue if they wanted to. I say ride it out and ignore the messages (don't antagonize the sharks:rolleyes1 )

Lovin' the shoes :rotfl: !! And those pants are tooooooo stinkin' cute!!!! Can't wait to see the shirts!

I've found when making tiered skirts that it's easier to attach the bottom to the middle, then the middle to the top, then the top to the pants. That way the piece that you're attaching to isn't ruffled yet. May not work for everyone, but does for me.

Elisa,
I'll be honest with you. I don't know how eBay works. I mean I sell (not customs though), but I've never had a problem. However, would this be any different than me making a twirl skirt and selling it? Is that "look" or pattern copyrighted? I guess if that idea is copyrighted or whatever then I guess they would have a more legitimate claim. The whole thing is so murky. I mean people take ideas and build on them and tweak them every day. I don't see this as being any different than that. Imagine where we'd be if people didn't take someone else's ideas and improve on them.

I don't know what I'd do. Good luck though whatever you decide. I'm also just saddened to hear there are sharks lurking around.

IGNORE THEM! Or if you feel you must respond, keep a neutral tone and simply state your point. There are only so many ways to interpret Minnie Mouse, so some outfits are bound to be similar. You did not outright copy someone's design and fabric choices, so they have no basis for their complaints. I have to wonder if the messages you're getting stem from the fact that you stated here that that you based yours on an outfit that you saw earlier on ebay. If I were you I'd be careful what you say here. I think there are probably lurkers who have their own agendas.

I say sod them! :rolleyes1 ,they just dont want the competition..you know your good when the other ppl doing the same kinda thing as you want you gone :lmao: . Whats that phrase again ? if you can't stand the heat get out the kitchen..I think some of the other sellers need to think about that lol. I've never seen your work on ebay.com but if they are being muppits about your outfit it must be gorgeous..don't let them run you out :cool2: .

I searched for castle creations on ebay, and I found a seller with custom clothes. I didn't see a jumper, and I even looked in the completed listings. :confused3

Did ebay remove the listing?

Question about patterns.

I have a pattern that includes both shorts and capris. The shorts use the same pattern pieces as the capris but are cut off shorter. I would like to make some shorts first, but I might want to make capris in the future, so I hate to cut up (ruin) the pattern.

Has anyone had this dilemma? How did you solve it?

CastleCreatiions -- I know nothing about eBay, but yuck! I'm so sorry they're out to get you.

I'm getting better at this since I'm now learning to copy patterns onto interfacing & not use the real pattern. I told them at Jo-Ann's what I wanted the interfacing for (so I would get one thin enough to see through) & the lady got me this stuff that has gridlines on it since that is what she uses.

NOW...instead of doing that since you want to make shorts instead of capri's is at the shorts line just fold the pattern up to that line rather than cutting it.

I hope that helps. I know I have several patterns like that.

Hi there, sweetie.

Well, as YOU know, I got the lecture also....and I didn't even SELL anything!

About a year ago, I "chatted" with Ebay personnel about having similar custom auctions. I was told that Ebay is a HUGE place and there's bound to be similar outfits listed and that by listing a similar custom outfit, there would be NO recourse for the original seller. Yes, you would get in trouble if you used someone else's pictures :rolleyes1 , but not if your outfit is the same.

PERSONALLY, I think these women are getting angry that us buyers are fighting back. ENOUGH with these high prices just BECAUSE they're part of a "well known" group. We've HAD IT. Let others, who are JUST AS TALENTED, make some cute sets for less. Get over it, Ebay snarks. Seriously, grow up. If someone in real life has the same shirt as you, do you go running around, stomping your feet and pointing fingers? NO. I wish these women would grow up and act like adults.
Next time someone emails you, tell them that Ebay is a huge marketplace and there's room for everyone.

I'm glad you said that because I thought of that after I was in the middle of it all. I wasn't sure if that would work or not. Next time, I'll do it that way. Thanks! :)

I have her saved as a favorite seller and yes the listing is now gone. I did see it yesterday and was contemplating placing a bid.

CastleCreations - Sorry this happened to you.

Hi
I am an official lurker of this thread. I can't sew but I love looking at all of the wonderful outfits you ladies do. I am waiting for a couple of you to start selling on Ebay! Anyway, I am pretty new to even buying on Ebay. There are some lovely custom outfits there, but I am blown away at some of the prices. I have seen some outfits created here that rival some of those expensive customs.

okay you trouble making bandits keep up the good work!

<back to lurk mode>

p.s. Castlecreations are you talking about the ADORABLE pants and Minnie outfit? I saw one listed (red, black, white with yellow) - it's too big for my baby - but I thought is was super cute. I remember thinking I hadn't seen anything like that.
