I pulled out some fabric that I bought the other day to cut some ruffles, and when the employee cut my yard, she cut it all crooked! :headache: I had to use my rotary cutter to square it up, and I had to take off about 6 inches total because it was such a mess!

The fabric was $9 yard, and I only bought one yard. That is more than I pay for alot of my fabrics, and to have so much of it wasted because the cutter was careless just really hacks me off! From now on, I will watch :3dglasses the fabric being cut, and if it is hacked up, I will refuse to buy it.

OK, vent over. I just needed to get that out to other people who will understand my frustration. Deep breath. . . deep breath. . . deep breath. . .

Hello, Someone sent me a link to this board and while it's flattering that someone likes my Minnie Dots Twirl outfit I do appreciate not having pics of my daughter used without my permission. I'm sure you all understand.

Thank you,
~ Jessie

Jessie--

Welcome to the boards. I am new myself. Frito

Hello, Since the fabric I use is an authentic Minnie dots (and is stated directly on the end of the bolts of fabric I use) It is NOT a copyright violation, but simply a matter and statement of fact.

This is not a hobby, but rather a business and is a large part of my families income. My work is top notch and is priced in accord with the cost of materials with in this case is $26, the Ebay fees which in this case is $6, Paypal fees which in this case run $2 and my time, which in this case is 4 1/2 hours. So, that makes this set a VERY resonably priced set.

My images were in my Ebay store and they are on my website, so they are not listed in a public forum, but if they were it is still not legal to use images of a minor child without the express written permission of that child's parent or guardian.

First I have to say that calling it a "Minnie dots twirl" outfit is a copyright violation in itself. Is your outfit affiliated with Minnie or the Disney corporation? I think not.

So, someone copied your picture? So? I'm assuming your picture was on a public website or a public forum where ANYONE and EVERYONE could view it. It's not like you were hiding it.

I recognized your daughter and know what Ebay seller you are. Maybe if you made your outfits more affordable where EVERYONE could purchase one, people wouldn't be trying to copy it..? Just a thought.

I guess I'm a little confused as to what the problem is.

Frito
Now that is just a silly argument. Sewing takes quite a bit of time and effort. If she lowered her prices so "everyone" could afford one, she wouldn't possibly have the time to make them all.

Jessie, you don't have to explain yourself. Perhaps you could start watermarking your images with your ebay seller id. I had to do that after another seller stole my images and used them in their auction. It is simple to do, and the watermark can be put in a corner or on the edge of the pic. It doesn't have to be right dead in the center.

oh, I would love that. how do you do that! I sometimes edit my pics and just put my name right on the pic. is that the same.

While I'm not sure why Jessie has a problem with the pictures being posted here, since they are all over ebay, and we were all only admiring the dress and she actually received more advertising since many of us went to check out the auction and possibly other auctions of hers, your comments were very uncalled for. You're obviously trying to start trouble as you just created a new user id to speak your mind and hide behind a name other than your real user id here. An ebay seller has every right to start their auctions at whatever price they want. No one HAS to bid on them. The people who bid must be fine with spending big $$ to buy them or they wouldn't bid. Those of us who don't want to spend that money have a choice. Either don't put your kids in custom outfits, make your own or buy less expensive outfits. It's like saying how dare Mercedes price their cars so high? Well then don't buy it! Just from the very little sewing experience I have I have come to really appreciate the time and money it takes to create these outfits. Fabric is expensive! And the time it takes to create these gorgeous outfits is worth alot too.

You can search free image watermark, and it will come up with sites. The one I used in the past isn't coming up anymore. I'm not sure what is up with that. :confused3 I will have to find a new place myself.

LOL... I'm not "obviously" trying to hide my name or start ANYTHING. The user name I used the my REAL name and the ACTUAL use name I use in any and all off Ebay forums... including that of my own group.

Would you like someone to take pictures of your children without so much as even asking permission? I don't think most people would.

There are several posts where someone says they sell another Ebay sellers outfits and have actually used her pictures as well. Many of the ladies here posted and asked her to either email them her Ebay ID or post it. I notice she didn't post it, but is it right for her to offer the outfits as her own and also even use the real seller's pictures?

I'm certainly not known for being dramatic. I'm on of the more laid back sellers. I don't have a lot of time to be on the boards as this is a business for me. I simply don't think it's fair or right. I'm sure most of the ladies here would feel the same way if they were in the shoes of the seller. I've worked very hard to produce top quality and I'm sure the other seller has too. If you're going to sell something you should use your own photos of your own work so people can see your quality, not the quality of someone esle.

I just had the same thing happen the other day! Thankfully, it was just cheap fabric, but I do wish the cutter was more careful!

I think the person was speaking to Frito when she said they made a new id to post that message.

Jessie, I just wanted to make sure you knew that one of the above posters was referring to Frito as creating a new username, and not you. I think most everyone here understands why you don't want people taking pictures of your daughter to use for themselves. Personally, I think your items are very reasonably priced.

The reason the one member doesn't post her Ebay username is because she doesn't sell on Ebay.

So, let's move on to what this thread is suppose to be about. Lesson learned everyone, don't post pictures that don't belong to you without the permission of the owner!

Teresa while I see your point about the thread moving on, I would be really upset if someone posted pictures of my DD without my permission. I think we should probably ask sellers before posting their childrens pictures here or anywhere else. Just my 2 cents...

Frito, I find it hard to believe that you are new...perhaps you should feel free to speak on the board without hiding behind a new ID, like everyone else here.

Woops! I NEVER meant to imply that I didn't TOTALLY understand Jessie's point! I have been emailing her (Jessie) off the boards, so I am confident she knew I wasn't talking to her!

Like I told Jessie, if someone took my pictures from my auction and then tried to sell it with those pictures, I would be really mad!

And, I would not want anyone posting pictures of my kids on other sites either! I think you are absolutely right Dena, we need to get the permission of the seller before posting their pictures. Sorry it sounded like I didn't agree before! I totally do!

I agree. Earlier in the thread we sort of "self moderated" by agreeing not to post eBay seller names without their permission. Now if someone wants to know the seller, we do it though PM.

Can we all just agree that we shouldn't post photos that aren't our own without permission?

If you see a fabulous outfit on eBay, mention the search terms or item number so we can all go look for ourselves. :)

Just to let everyone know we can NOT post item numbers on the board. You will get a "warning" or points for that. Trust me, I found out the hard way!

Ebay usernames are fine to post, but you should check with the seller first. I've found that most don't mind at all.

Jessie, I was just checking out your other items, and they are ADORABLE!!! You do really beautiful work! I love the Tank Engine set! That is not something you see for girls very often!

With Jessie's permission, I wanted to share with you her Ebay username:
alexis*princess-wear*boutiques
She has some amazingly cute outfits!!!

You might also want to disable right-click to prevent people from copying/pasting or saving your pictures. Of course, it is not foolproof because people can go around it (which I won't disclose here :) ). Also, place a disclaimer in your lisitngs that you own the copyright and do not allow anyone to use it in any way.

I would be very upset if someone posted pics of my kids, too, without my permission.

Just thought I'd point out that *this* is precisely why I don't post pics of my children online (in any forum).

I am *not* saying it is in any way/shape/form proper or correct to copy/post pics of others children - BUT, that's why photoshop has a blur function.

Frankly, this is FAR from the most nefarious reason one might be copying pics of your children . . ..

It would probably bother me immensely to unexpectedly run across pics of my little ones - and that's why I make sure (usually by simply cropping out heads - LOL!) that it will NEVER happen. It stinks, but the power's in my hands on this one.
