Jessie, you don't have to explain yourself. Perhaps you could start watermarking your images with your ebay seller id. I had to do that after another seller stole my images and used them in their auction. It is simple to do, and the watermark can be put in a corner or on the edge of the pic. It doesn't have to be right dead in the center.

I haven't used this one, but here is a site that has a free watermarking tool:

Jessie--

Welcome to the boards. I am new myself.

First I have to say that calling it a "Minnie dots twirl" outfit is a copyright violation in itself. Is your outfit affiliated with Minnie or the Disney corporation? I think not.

So, someone copied your picture? So? I'm assuming your picture was on a public website or a public forum where ANYONE and EVERYONE could view it. It's not like you were hiding it.

I recognized your daughter and know what Ebay seller you are. Maybe if you made your outfits more affordable where EVERYONE could purchase one, people wouldn't be trying to copy it..? Just a thought.

I guess I'm a little confused as to what the problem is.

Frito

You so beat me to it!!! I totally agree with you 100%!

Hello, Since the fabric I use is an authentic Minnie dots (and is stated directly on the end of the bolts of fabric I use) It is NOT a copyright violation, but simply a matter and statement of fact.

This is not a hobby, but rather a business and is a large part of my families income. My work is top notch and is priced in accord with the cost of materials with in this case is $26, the Ebay fees which in this case is $6, Paypal fees which in this case run $2 and my time, which in this case is 4 1/2 hours. So, that makes this set a VERY resonably priced set.

My images were in my Ebay store and they are on my website, so they are not listed in a public forum, but if they were it is still not legal to use images of a minor child without the express written permission of that child's parent or guardian.

Perhaps you should not show your childs face? Or blur it? This is the internet, public forum or private.

I pulled out some fabric that I bought the other day to cut some ruffles, and when the employee cut my yard, she cut it all crooked! :headache: I had to use my rotary cutter to square it up, and I had to take off about 6 inches total because it was such a mess!

The fabric was $9 yard, and I only bought one yard. That is more than I pay for alot of my fabrics, and to have so much of it wasted because the cutter was careless just really hacks me off! From now on, I will watch :3dglasses the fabric being cut, and if it is hacked up, I will refuse to buy it.

OK, vent over. I just needed to get that out to other people who will understand my frustration. Deep breath. . . deep breath. . . deep breath. . .

I know JoAnne's will take fabric back if you have not cut it. No matter where it came from, I'd take it back. Let them cut you a larger peice or discount for what you actually got. If your like the rest of us, I'm sure you are at the fabric store multiple times!!!

Teresa while I see your point about the thread moving on, I would be really upset if someone posted pictures of my DD without my permission. I think we should probably ask sellers before posting their childrens pictures here or anywhere else. Just my 2 cents...

Frito, I find it hard to believe that you are new...perhaps you should feel free to speak on the board without hiding behind a new ID, like everyone else here.

Dena

Thank you for you kind words. I don't have usually have a problem as long as someone just send me an email asking for permission to use a photo. I buy from many accessory designers and I'm almost always happy to let them use a photo I've listed in an auction with their accessory. I'm always happy to let a past customer have photos for a resell, ect. It's simply nice to have someone ask permission before using an image.

:wave2:

You might also want to disable right-click to prevent people from copying/pasting or saving your pictures. Of course, it is not foolproof because people can go around it (which I won't disclose here :) ). Also, place a disclaimer in your lisitngs that you own the copyright and do not allow anyone to use it in any way.

I would be very upset if someone posted pics of my kids, too, without my permission.

I use to use the disable right click in my auctions, but quickly found out it's not very effective. True, someone is prevented from right clicking to copy or save an image but it's very easy to simply save or copy and past the whole page if you really want an image or background from the a page. So, I stopped using the right click disable for that reason.

Just thought I'd point out that *this* is precisely why I don't post pics of my children online (in any forum).

I am *not* saying it is in any way/shape/form proper or correct to copy/post pics of others children - BUT, that's why photoshop has a blur function.

Frankly, this is FAR from the most nefarious reason one might be copying pics of your children . . ..

It would probably bother me immensely to unexpectedly run across pics of my little ones - and that's why I make sure (usually by simply cropping out heads - LOL!) that it will NEVER happen. It stinks, but the power's in my hands on this one.

Unfortunatly, if you want to be successful as a seller you really can't do this. It's been talked about many times on Ebay's boutique buyers and sellers boards and it's one of the worst things you could do as a seller if you want to buyers to like your auction pages. Buyers say they actually hit the "back" button the minute they see a distorted image.

Ebay Boutique sellers have really had to "step up their game" in the past 2 years. Photos are their biggest selling point. If you aren't able to have at the very least semi-professional looking photos you would be able to bring in the sales. While my photos are "okay" I know they could be much better. It's a struggle to be able to get good photos. I have a moderate camera and haven't been able to afford a high end one just yet.

Since photos are so important for sales you removing a face from your pictures really isn't an option. It's not often a problem because most people will go ahead and email you and ask permission of they would like to use/take a photo.

Again, although this is the internet (or even especially because it is) it is actually illegal to use the image of a minor child (child under the age of 18) without the express written consent of a parent or guardian.

If you were to get a magazine in the mail and the photographer has blurred or removed the faces of the models (and my daughter IS a model for my business) you wouldn't look at that magazine.

I use to put my business name on my photos, but most Ebay buyers on the Ebay buyers and sellers forums agree they would rather sellers not do that.

~ Jessie

I think if its done in a subtle way so that it doesn't take away from the picture, then its fine. Or there's always the option of disabling the "copy" feature on your photos. Either way though, I do agree that I would be a little ticked off if someone took my kid's photo and posted it on another board.

But that said, everytime a picture from an auction is posted on here, it generates interest. You'll see a bunch of posts asking for the name of the seller. That benefits you as a seller to have all those people viewing your auctions. And it just so happens that after your posts, your seller name appears on here- what luck! I also don't see anything wrong with people who see your ideas and try to copy them or even sell them. Your ideas aren't copyrighted and I'm sure a lot of your ideas came from other people's ideas. To say its "not nice" isn't going to stop people who can't afford or don't want to pay your prices from trying to make something of their own.

I guess I agree with your point about posting your daughter's picture on here, but there are ways for you to stop that. As far as people liking and trying to recreate your ideas, I think it just comes with the territory on selling online. :confused3

Becky2005...if you come up with any ideas for your daughter I would love for you to share. I am in the same situation...my daughter is 13 and I want some ideas! Thanks for your input!

Jessie....I am so glad others cleared up what I was trying to say. My comments were directed at "Frito" and not at all to you saying that you're starting trouble.

I've been on a message board where someone used pictures of another child claiming this child was her own for years. She talked and talked about her child only for the rest of us later to find out she had no kids at all and wasn't even married. Sicko! We even got updated pictures on a regular basis. She must have had some family's personal webpage saved and would steal their pictures whenever they put up new ones. So I understand people being hesitant putting pictures of their kids on the internet. You just never know who is out there looking at those pictures. It especially sickens me to see the little girls in these pageant outfit auctions that look anything but like little girls.

Boy, see what happens when you spend the moring sewing. You miss all of the action.
Since I have no idea what is going on, I will just add that I have been working on a new dress and if I had 2 matching buttons, you all would be seeing here right now, since I don't have the buttons you all will have to wait until tomorrow. I borrowed the idea from something I saw a long time ago. I absolutely love it. Hope you all are enjoying your weekend. It's thunderstorming here now, and I'm off to take a quick nap...:rotfl: since my 2 little ones are sleeping. We are seeing a late movie tonight and I want them to be able to stay awake for it...LOL

Can we move on?

Someone posted a picture and should have had permission.

I'm very sure that the poster meant no harm. The ladies here have been very supportive of each other.

Whoever alerted Jessieanna, should have PM'd the poster and asked her to take down the picture as a warning instead of starting a mess.

Jessieanna, welcome to the DIS. The posters here are a great bunch of people. We all try to help each other. I had never heard of you or your ebay store before this mess, so the poster did give you free advertising. Granted in a way that you may not like.

Moral: Don't post pictures w/out permission. End of story.

Let's move on. This is beating a dead horse. If anyone wants to create drama, open a thread on the Community Board.

Yippeee!!! I finished my DD's Jumper! It took many hours but I am pretty happy with it! I made all the patterns for the appliques free hand!

One question: Now that I am looking at it in the pictures should I outline all of my characters with the dark thread?

THX

Jen

I think they look great. You can add a dark thread to finish it and to ensure it doesn't come up. But if that is too hrd it's not necessary :wizard:

I also don't put pics of my children on forums, etc. As beautiful as I think my dds are and as much as I want to share them with ya'll (whom I now think of as friends), I don't feel comfortable because we don't know how many people are lurking. Just look at how many people have finally joined the DIS or come out of lurking because of this thread.

However, Jessie is absolutely correct. If you want your items to sell, you need to present them in the best light possible. Many people use one of the free modeling services that are out there. Even if I did this with my dd, I would still be upset if I saw a pic of my dd on a forum like this.

I do sell on eBay (not customs though) and I don't use the companies' stock photos because I don't like posting pics of those young models in their swimsuits on eBay. Many other people do, but it is outside of my comfort zone.

I have really enjoyed embellishing store bought items and I am considering opening up a "budget boutique" on eBay. I would list those item just laid out nicely because even the "free" modeling adds to the cost of the item if items have to be shipped back and forth, etc.

Anyway, Jessie, I'm sorry this happened. Hopefully, the person who posted the pic or the mod can delete it for you. If it is the dress I'm thinking of, you do lovely work. Good luck to you.

If you search ebay for "reborn" dolls, there are lots of them. Someone showed me a picture of one once and it was so realistic it was scary. The sellers buy a baby doll and remake it by painting it, weighting it, and rooting hair in.

I checked them out today. they are very cute!! they do have some on Ebay but I registered on on of the sites where the artist makes them and they will alert me when they become available. My mom would love to have one of these. She will probably even make it it's own bassinet :rolleyes1

Could anyone tell me what kind of clip you use for a 4 inch hair bow?
Are they alligator clips? or some other name?

Thanks
Beth

I think it depends on who they are for. My dd has some bows that big but I have all of hers made on the alligator (pinch) clips. Some people also use french clips or barrettes. My dd's hair is too silky for those.
