Ok, here is the latest installment in the "Beginner's Boutique" where nothing is perfect but my daughter likes it. Excuse her hair: she just back from camp and wouldn't let me touch it:

Now she told me she would like a princess nightgown!

love the outfit! great job. she looks os happy in it!

Thanks for the help! You are all so motivating. I took my lunch break and hung out in the craft aisle of Wal mart! nothing too excitin there. But I did inform my husband that we would be hitting JoAnn's on Saturday!!! Thanks again!
Also, any photos of custom clothes that you made for your 13+ old daughters would be grately appreciated! Thanks!

I sorta learned to appliqué this week and have been working on a pirate outfit for DS. It was a lot of fun! Some areas are kind of rough, but he loves it and that's what matters, right!? I think the shirt might be a little small - I used a new pattern and although his weight/height fall in the size 5 range, I think it looks small. May have to make him a 6 - hopefully I can find more fabric. I also used an older pair of jeans just in case I seriously messed them up, so they look a little ratty. Oh well.

All in all, though, I think it turned out ok

And, since I don't know how to do the multi-quote thing and I've been gone a few days, I must just say that all the new outfits are adorable! Awesome job, everyone! I especially love the Jojo skirt!

You are my hero. This is exactly the sort of shirt my DS wants, but I haven't had the nerve to try it. Was it hard? (How much sewing experience do you have?)

For what it's worth, I don't think it *looks* too small...but I think I'm like you, I prefer to err on the side of large.

There have been sooo many cute outfits over the last few days posted here. I'll get to my sewing soon but have been working on new jewels instead. That swirly retro Mickey fabric has finally given me a reason to use my Mickey's & come up with this fringe bracelet.

OMGosh, I love it!! I hope you have enough buttons for all of us who now want one!!
It's done! Phew- This is the WalMart dress I did for Laila's 2nd birthday party on Sunday, the theme is Minnie Mouse.

Please ignore her more than thrilled expression- she has inherited her mama's dramatic streak!

I also included one pic of the under skirt, made of muslin that I attached the tulle to. I am using it under another skirt as well.

So very cute!! I may steal your initial tee idea!

FANTASTIC!!! I love it! I don't think the shirt looks to small.

Ok - while I'm still unsure about applique in general (chicken is more like it) --- HOW on earth do y'all do the stitching on pants/jeans legs? There's no room to get that moving around on my machine! Do you have a special machine to do that kind of stuff?

(I just have a small/cheap serger and a very very old Singer sewing machine)

Okay Okay I confess..... I'm addicted! I have been following you all for some time amazed with all you untalented people out there! If I could only sew a button!! I am getting a little courage from you all and I am going to attempt a pair of ribbon shorts (if that's what you call them). We just went to Disney this May and there is no date scheduled for the next so I am going to try July 4th colors.

All of the outfits are so awesome! This site is great! O are we still supposed to do housework:)

:welcome:

I vote no to the housework ;)

Here's my interpretation of a JoJo's Circus skirt. I am completely at a loss as to what I'm going to do for a shirt. I've never done applique. TDS doesn't have any JoJo tees. The few that are on ebay aren't the correct color. Any ideas?

Hmmmm...just needs a JoJo bead

So very cute!! I may steal your initial tee idea!

I stole it from someone on Ebay so go right ahead! I was initally going to cut out a flower but when looking at some of the boutique stuff there I fell in love with the monogram idea.

I don't know how to multi-quote, so I'll try to answer everyone.

eeyore3847, it's just a t-shirt from Target with the skirt. I suppose I could have attached the skirt to the shirt but I didn't think of it.

kaysmommie: I used Simplicity 4206, the Sewing Patterns for Dummies line. The instructions were really clear and simple. You can make shorts, capris, the skirt and three tops with it.

Thanks to everyone who commented about the cuteness of the outfit and my daughter. I really appreciate the encouragement I get here. :grouphug:

How are the different colors of the tulle skirts attached to each other?

Thanks! You know, it wasn't really hard. I used a Burda pattern which was a brand I'm not used to. I may try to find a Simplicity or McCall's in the same style - I find their instructions a little easier to follow. Also, I haven't had any formal teaching beyond 7th grade home ec., but I do sew quite a bit. I just learn as I go!

I say go for it! And post pics when you're finished!!

I rip the inside seams of jeans open to applique, then sew them back up. To me that is the worst part. Way worse then sewing on the applique.

UGGH!!! Guess I'll just look for some of the heavy duty fusible webbing that doesn't require sewing! I'm not going to start tearing jeans apart! My machine can barely handle denim as it is.

If you have a little one then remember they have snaps in the inside for diaper changing. Makes life so much easier! Sure you aren't lucky enough fo that though. I am yet to do a pair that small.

Shorts I can usually do if I keep the applique down towards the bottom and not too complex without ripping open.
