We'll be on the DDP. I've heard that kids' desserts are sometimes fruit cups, etc. Normally this would not be aproblem for our family, but if we are eating ice cream and cake for dessert, our kids are highly unlikely to take great joy in their fruit cups. I see that sometimes the choices include ice cream, but if my child selects the meal with a cheese pizza but doesn't want brown sugar apples, is it possible to subsitute?

OR

can my kids share my dessert

OR

can I order off the menu for a dessert for my child? Pay extra if there is something they really want?

Thanks!

Things have changed so much....I can't answer the first part of your question. What is allowed this year might change for the next. I am sure if you choose to pay OOP...you will get what ever dessert your child desires.

We're on the 2007 plan, if it makes any difference. Hopefully we won't have to pay out of pocket to often, but I know one of my kids will really want the chocolate mousse.

:)

Thanks!

Well, we were not on the DDP, but my kids often got kid's meals. In nearly every TS, there was either the make your own sundae or an ice cream sundae. Some restaurants had kids sized special desserts (like Le Cellier). Don't worry, it will be better than you think for kids desserts. You can also pay OOP or share-- or even give them your dessert! Our kids (5 with us) were always offered fruit cup as a side, not as dessert.

I was very dissappointed in the dining plan this time. This is our 3rd time doing it and will be our last. The new kids menus were so lame. They are all printed on the same sheet so each TS meal you go to, it is the same darn word seach, hidden mickey's etc... I advise to bring a few things to occupy them because some of the TS meals can be a little longer then you anticipate. We ate at LeCellier, Spoodles and GF Cafe for sit down TS meals. They offered 2-4 options for main meals and then choices for your two "ears" of the plate. It all comes together unless you ask for separate courses with yours - which I recommend. It seem that pizza, PB&J and chicken nuggets were the 3 staples and sometimes we had a mac n cheese or beef a roni on there. There was never any grilled chicken, chicken drumstick, fish, etc... offered. I am just glad we were only there 5 days. The side choices were fruit cup, cold carrots/celery, cooked carrots/green beans, 1 cookie, 1 applesauce and sometimes a soup. This was meant as appetizer, dessert. Problem with that is that there was no side item with the kids meals, no mashed potatoes, no fries, no veggies - so we always picked the cooked veggies for the one ear. LeCellier did have an option of a make your own sundae but to still offer the smores dessert or the chocolate moose (really kids desserts) and not offer them to kids is pretty lame. I took DD's make your own sundae and I order the moose for her (she had it the last 2 times and loves it.) The sundae is a melon ball size of plain vanilla, some plain sprinkles and brownish banannas. Ew... The other funny thing is the waitress (who was awesome by the way) told us they are told they HAVE to put the kids snack/dessert in their spot and at that time we can switch if we choose to. She could get in trouble for placing them in the wrong spots and give other people the wrong idea. It just seemed much more rigid this time and with the no gratuity, no appetizer option along with the new kids menus means no more DDP for us. We enjoyed it while it lasted but I think we will be better off just paying out of pocket.

We just returned from 9 days and had very few problems with the kids meals. The only place that would not substitute from the shown picture was the GF cafe and The Plaza restaurant (which was terrible all around). Every other place (Kona, Coral Reef, Narcoossee, WCC, Le Cellier) My kids ate great all week! Mahi Mahi, Halibut, Filet, Salmon, Turkey....all with the side they wanted. The only thing that had littel variety was the dessert. Most places had the sundae cup and the kids were happy with that since that was the choice. We did purchase OOP a shrimp cocktail one night and a key lime tart another but we definately got our moneys worth at every meal.

I think we grown ups have more anxiety about the kids meals than the kids! First of all we are paying $9.99 for the kids to eat all day; TS, CS and Snack in a day. So keep it in perspective.

Call a spade a spade, a CS kids meal and TS kids meal can be really different. Resort CS maybe different than park CS. In TS the kids can have things like Steak, fish, grilled chicken in addition to things like pasta, mac & cheese and Pizza.

I was shocked at how excited my nephew got over the Uncrustables PB&J but he just about did a song and dance when he saw them in the deli case; who knew :confused3. Also kids don't seem to mind eating the same thing, he ate them 3 times. If we let him he'd probably eat pizza for every meal; and he had his share of Pizza CS and TS at Disney. For TS dessert choices there was always an ice cream option. For CS at a resort food court ice cream from the grab and go section can be an option (ie. Mickey bar).

Confesson time: On at least 2 TS occassions I chose the kids dessert over the adult choices; both times it was an ice cream option.

Well you must have all went to better places then me. We had lousy options, even at sit down TS. LeCellier was the only place that offered something outside the box, which was steak and that was a $3 surcharge if your child wanted it. My child does not eat steak. When I asked if she could have the same size piece of chicken, I was told no substitutions. I didn't see grilled chicken or fish anywhere.

I also noticed that all the CS places we went too took off a lot of good things for the kids too. Cosmic Rays no longer has a chicken drumstick or routisserie chicken kids meal - only fried nuggets.

Also at Gatspies at GF, a mickey ice cream bar was NOT allowed as a dessert on kids meal for CS. It was again something that had to be in the darn ears. It was a cookie, applesauce, or fruit cup. When I asked about the ice cream soft serve and bars, it is only a snack option. They were so strict. I was also only allowed mickey's milk for a kids meal - not the basic milk cartons which are the same size. I told her there was no skim milk available in mickey's milk and one of the CM's said it was only mickey's milk for any kids meal milk option. I paid out of pocket for a darn simple carton of milk.

Like I said, I understand the kids meals are cheaper but to have offered more options for the past 2 years and then to go back and see this was an obvious decrease in service. For people that have never done it before, I guess they won't know any better. And personally, I don't want my child eating uncrustables and fried food all week long and don't think I should have to hunt down multiple CS and TS meals to find it. With child obesity on the rise, disney should be stepping up with much healthier kids options.

I chose resturaunts with the kids in mind...we all went through the menus together. This trip we will be going to Kona (salad or soup, fish, chicken, hot dog, cheeseburger or mac and cheese, lots of vegetable options, icecream or fruit for dessert) and Teppan Edo (shrimp or chicken, tons of vegetables involved).

At Kona we do plan to pay OOP for the Kids Kone. But yes, your child can share your dessert (entree, appetizer...whatever!) with your child as long as you also order them their own meal.

Narcoossee's he had Mickey Pasta and I ate a kid's banana split for dessert, yum. We paid OOP for his pasta $6, I think we left $10.

Coral Reef he ate apple slices, cheese pizza and the make your own sundae. I ordered the same dessert. This was a lunch meal.

We took advantage of buffets: Chef Mickey's, Boma and Hollywood & Vine. Kids can eat anything on the buffet.

CS - Main St Bakery PB&J, milk and I forget his dessert, might have chosen a banana that we took back to the room. My mother and I shared a meal and a huge slice of carrot cake. He didn't have any cake and I don't recall him having a sweet item on the table his milk and PB&J had him in heaven. This was a post Spectro meal.

CS - Peco Bill's chocolate pudding dessert; overall this was the worst meal of the trip

CS - Caribbean Beach Resort PB&J, Apple Slices w/caramel dip and a drink; he could have gotten an ice cream in lieu of the apples, but again he chose fruit

CS - family did sunshine seasons, I wasn't there, but I know he got mac & cheese meal

I was really worried about kids meal choices for him, but we had no problems. I really urge families to use the buffets. We did 2 for dinner and one for breakfast and choices and presentation can really satisfy all. Also expcept for Trails End breakfast any buffet at Disney cost more than the daily fee for a child. ie. buffets are a great deal for kids.
