Do children get fed at the kids club if the parents request it? Or do you have to take your kids out of the clubs for meals?

Hi! I haven't been on my cruise yet, but from what I can tell from reading these boards and doing other research is that if they are there during a meal time, which will be specified on the Navigator, they will take them to a buffet to eat. Someone who's been on a cruise already can probably give you more specifics, but maybe this will help you some!:smooth:

If your children are in the kids clubs during one of their scheduled meal times (the club's meal times that is) then they will be escorted upstairs through a back stairway to the Topsiders Buffet. They already have plates and drinks set out on the table for the younger ones. My son is four so I can't comment on if the slightly older kids get to select their own food our not (although I'm guessing this would be difficult to accomodate). Another note, if they are taking the kids toor from an activity like a meal or a movie you are not allowed to check them out until they reach that destination. Hope this helps!

My son was in the 8-9 group and twice he was in the lab when they went to the buffet. He would just go through and pick some chicken strips or what ever else he wanted to snack on, as we had the late dinner. It worked really well to hold him over :)

They set one side of Topsider's up with "kid foods" (mac and cheese, fries, pizza, fruit, jello) and the kid's in the club/lab get to go through the line. I think that technically that side of Topsider's is closed and is only for the kid's clubs but we walked in with my children when they weren't in the club and got them lunch or dinner. It worked out great. My kids (6 and 8) loved the freedom of picking out there own meals. I did catch my DS 8 with about 6 of the yummy chocolate chip cookies on his plate but, hey, I would probably do the same thing!! :D

I have a three year old going with me on the July 20th cruise. Will they help her with her plate at the buffet. I would think they would, but after reading some of the things about the club I don't know. Also do they have someone take them to the bathroom to watch them (I understand that she has to do everything herself) to make sure they don't turn the bathroom into a water park?

My daughter is 6 and she ate with the kids in the Oceaneers club a few times. The previous posters are all correct.

For lunch, they usually go to Animators Palate which is closed to everyone but them. It is not buffet, they get served a specific dish. This was usually between 11:30 and 12:15.

For dinner, they go to topsiders, usually from 5:30 to 6:15. Topsiders is closed to all other guests (not that they would stop you if you wished to go, but it is only the kids food). The children in the Oceaneers club did not serve themselves (at least not that I saw). They were given a tray that was loaded with some of everything. I wasn't there the whole time, but I do believe if they want more of something, they can get it or a counselor will assist them.

As for the bathroom question, if someone goes to the bathroom, the counselors go out with them.

Hope this answers your questions...

Remember that if you have a child in Flounder's Reef, they do not provide meals. We were on a three night cruise and put our 1.5 DS in Flounder's nightly. We ordered room service for him about 5PM, and got ready for dinner while he ate. We took him to Flounders, and got to eat a fuss-free meal!

They do provide snack foods, but not enough for a meal.

I want to go on a snorkel tour for 3.5 hours (the shortest one that they have) at Grand Cayman and I'll have to drop my DD off at Flounder's at 7:30 am. And at 18 months old, she will not get anything but snacks until I pick her up at 12:30?
I'll just have room service send her a pb&j at flounder's at 10. :smooth:
But seriously, this could be the cause of so many parents getting paged because their child is unhappy...hunger. Are we allowed to pack them snacks?
Very concerned :(

I don't know if you can pack snacks. They did ask us to bring sippie cups so they could have juice.

I would make sure your DD gets breakfast before you go snorkeling (we ate at Topsiders right before we hit Castaway and that worked great). Remember....18 month olds are pretty hearty.....she will probably be too busy playing to worry about eating!! :)

Flounders will have crackers and fruit supplied. Check with them when you get on the boat to see if you can bring a lunch for your DD....you will find their staff extremely accommodating and caring.

One more question. What is the temperature inside Flounder's and Oceaneers Club? Is it air conditioned so that the kids could possible get cold? I'm planning on lots of tank tops and T-shirts for the heat (early August cruise), but if they are mostly indoors during the day at the club and nursery.?.?.just not sure. Same question for dining.

Nicole......... Flounders does not allow you to send food to the kids in the nursery. And all they provide are crackers (saltines, I think) and juice....send your own sippee cup. The food issue, I guess, could cause problems if some kids are eating and others are not. Plus, most kids those ages need one on one help to eat, and are at so many different stages of food. Not to mention possible food allergies!!!!! How awful that would be!

The allergy stuff is tough. DS 5 is allergic to peanuts and most nuts. However, as in Flounders, the Club is very sensitive to that. We had registered DS as a nut allergic child and confirmed all that information when we boarded. I was told the kids eating area is kept very nut free due to allergies. I confirmed this several times when DS went to eat.

This is probably an issue for another thread but thought I would throw out some info in case anyone with an allergic child was reading.

Temp in Flounders is fine....I didn't notice it was too hot or cold. My DS wore shorts the whole time. They have a separate room with cribs and blankies, so you child will be covered up if he/she takes a nap.

HTH.
