Can anyone comment on how the magic bands have replaced Mickey bands on the ships for the kids club, I thought I read that you had to pay for them. Is this true? Thank you

You only have to pay for them if you lose them or want to keep the magic band. For kids 4+ they put a lock on them. The last time I cruised they were blue and had a disney cruise line image and mickey on them.

looks like this

Could you please elaborate on this? First time cruisers with a 3 year old who isn't fond of the bracelets/stamps given out at museums, zoos, etc. Do kids under 4 receive a band? Is the band removable?

Thanks for the picture.

My almost 3 yo received a band for the nursery that we just hung onto ourselves. My 5 yo received a band that they secured on his wrist. It was not removable unless you cut the piece of plastic that secured it.

We are wondering about being able to remove the bands as well. My niece is 5 and will not wear those bands at museums and stuff. If we take it off the child can we get a new one?

yes they snap the band on and then they add this extra piece that "locks" it. I didn't look close enough to how it actually worked. But it had to be cut off when we returned it.

I'm happy to know that they can "lock" the bands. That will keep the kids from losing them.

If your kid wants to take it off or doesn't want the lock that is ok too. Once my ds cut off the lock cuz he wanted a break from the bracelet and the next day they added a lock again. The magic bands were yellow on our trip. You are only charged if you lose or don't return them. You'll auto see the charge on your bill but they take it off once the band is returned.

We were able to just move the little plastic lock to the side and take it off. DD hates it and we took it off when she wasn't going to the club/lab. They told me if the plastic lock broke, they could give her a new one. They have a whole container full of them at the counter but we didn't find it necessary to cut them to get it off. Maybe they've changed since last year.

I did the same thing for my 5 year olds. Just opened the lock a little and took it off.

A 3 year old can have a band and wear it, but the lock is considered a choking hazard.

Thanks! I assume a 21 month old will not need? May do daycare for a couple hours one night while at dinner and a couple hours for a jetski excursion.

They will issue one for all the kids using the nursery or the clubs, we snapped the one for our 19 mo old onto his diaper bag and sent it in with him every time (they scan them when you check the kids in), but he never wore it.

Great! Thanks for the info!

Just curious. Are they for sale ? Whats the cost if you keep them ?
