Kids budget?

When I was little i got 50 for a week at DL, Knotts, Seaworld as well as any place else my nana wanted to take us. she paid for all our food (one snack and one meal in park) 50 was enough then. Currently my sister gets about a 100 when we go to DL (2 - 3 days is our average stay) she is responsible for her own snacks as well as souvenirs. I would feel that 200 is to much given there ages and that you are only making them responsible for there own toys.

It depends how often you get out to DL. Our kids have never had more than $50 per trip to spend as we aren't big spenders when it comes to souvies.

Our last trip was a few weeks ago and my kids each had a $25 giftcard and $20 cash. They had the hardest time spending it- there just wasn't anything they wanted. My dd actually didn't even spend her whole giftcard and came home with the cash.

For our trip next month I think we'll skip souvenier shopping completely. We don't need anything else and this will be our 4th trip since last June. Plus, we'll save a bunch of time by not shopping. We are only doing a short stop over ( 2 nights) since our main trip is Oceanside, Ca.

On another note, we have previously bought those spinner things that light up and they usually sell them in the evening. In 2006, we brought ours back to DL with a fresh set of batteries, so that helped by not having to buy new ones while we were there!

We bring things back, too. Currently have a Stitch and Mickey head light spinner that are still going strong. 3 mini lightsaber keychains...had to buy batteries for them, but sourced some insanely cheap batteries through amazon and have something like 100 for the price of 2 name brand LR44 batteries...

We always have to tell our boys they MUST spend this money at DL or it goes away. They hoard their money, which is good they know how to save, but we want them to have a little fun along the way too. Otherwise, they would buy nothing and no extra snacks so they could bring the money home. But like I said, it was only about $25.

I think what I'll do it give them each $20/day. They might not spend it all...but I don't want them asking me every few minutes if they can have something. If it comes out of THEIR money they might think twice about something they feel like they need.

Oh and this wil be the second time we go because we are far away, and eventhough I'm plotting to get AP's that's not a given yet. Thank you all for the great advice!

Yeah...when I was a kid, the only money I ever got was a $10 dollar bill to buy two churros since my dad was too lazy to get them. And of which I had to pay back the difference.

Well...my boys usually take their own spending money...they stash found money and allowances.

When we last did DL they each got ears, one t-shirt, and snacks paid for by me. Other purchases came out of their money. My younger son chose a Peter Pan bow and arrow set and my older son bought himself the 50th Anniversary CD set.

At WDW I bought them each 2 t-shirts and snacks. My younger son bought himself a foam sword and a plastic pirate hook. My older son bought a Pirates key chain.

We're not big souvenir fans, obviously. If they were expected to purchase all of their souvenirs they would have needed about $60 each.
