KidCot FunSpot - Is this rude or is it me?

On another thread, people are talking about how to get into the Magical Beginnings in Fantasyland without toddlers. Aaarrggh. Let kids enjoy the magic while they still can!!!

But don't these occur during regular EMH? It seemed they did on the schedule we had during our last visit. That's way too early for me, but are we now saying that people can't go to morning EMH when these things are taking place?

Again, I may be wrong about that.

I'm 12, and I love coloring at Kidcot stations. I don't think that it's just for little kids. Besides, I usually only stay at them long enough for CMs to do their thing to the mask. I color mine when I get home, I like my markers better.

And you have every right. Don't let anyone here or anyone else take away from these special years in your life just because their kid is still in diapers.

(and if they do and I'm around, just call me. I'll handle it while you get your mask. )

Although I agree with the rest of your message, Kidcot is not babysitting. It's an activity for which you should stay nearby.

I really don't get this whole "adults can do whatever they want!" attitude I see here.

Let's face it, adults KNOW there's a person inside the Mickey suit. But my son thought that he really met Buzz Lightyear at DL a few months ago. That's the difference for me. And that's why I'd give up my space to let kids do things - because it is just more of an experience for them than it is for me. I love Disney, but it's not fair for me to take magic away from a little one.

Also, no one has mentioned that it is nearly impossible to get a preschooler to sit for an hour waiting for a parade. They simply won't do it. And how crazy is it that anyone will give up a significant portion of their day to see a parade? There's too much else to do. If we just all convened at the parade route right before the parade, it would work out fine. But then again, I also get angry when people reserve table spots at CS places before they get their food. People, if seating is tight, let people who are eating sit. They will be there for a short period of time. You taking up a space while you are not eating just makes the whole situation worse by slowing table turnover.

Okay. Getting off my soapbox now.

You know, I remember this woman when I was a kid doing something really nasty to my family because we dared get a seat for my grandmother while my mother got food. She put her tray down and told us to move!

I was only 9, but I remember wanting to ram that woman for being so nasty to my grandmother.

BTW - we didn't move. And she did. And if I ever saw anyone being nasty to an elderly lady like that when I'm on vacation, I'd get me a couple of CMs and do my best to see that they were dealt with.

And yes, I take time to scope out a place for the parade. It's one of my favorite things (the parades) and if you want to judge those of use who do it and tell us we're stealing special time away from your kid, fine. If you want me to give up my spot, you can pay for my passes, my hotel and everything else I've invested in my vacation. Then - let's talk! By all means! I'll give up my spot for a free vacation. Woo hoo!

Personally if you read these comments and the range of emotions expressed over coloring, you can see why it becomes a problem. I can guarantee you the little kids have no problem with anyone coloring with them, it's always the adults that make too big a deal about it.

If you go to the kidcot table and its full of young kids, your child still have to wait. So in the big scheme of things does it matter what age the "child" is you are waiting on. No it doesn't.

As DaisyD suggested if there adults sitting, simply ask if they mind if your child sits down and colors, if they said No I am helping my child, back off and wait your turn.

When I read these threads about what is rude, what is not, what is your pet peeve, etc. I have to wonder, Do these people have any fun at Disney World.

And if I saw a family of 9 all coloring together at a KidCot station (or any place else) I consider it more Disney magic. Where else are you likely to see that?

No they don't. They are too busy judging everyone else, making assumptions, and making sure they get whatever they want, not matter if it means they tromp on others to do it.

I agree! I can't believe that coloring with your children has turned into "that's rude behavior" debate. Something so innocent is seen as boorish behavior. Before long, we're all going to have to carry handbooks outlining what may be considered rude behavior in WDW.

You must have seen my family. Last trip my children were 3.5 and 1. They along with my dd22, her df22 and myself all sat and did those activities. We helped the little ones. Only dh didn't get in on the act. About 4-5 countries around, dd1 fell asleep and from that point only ds5 and dd22 and her friend did the activites (ddf22 finished the one started by dd1).

As far as parades go, if I've waited for an hour or more and a family comes up at the last minute and politely asks if there small child can squeeze it, I'll let them. If they rudely comes up and starts shoving their children (or themselves in), that's a different story. I have missed many parades, and I've yet to see Illuminations clearly because we show up late and my 5'1" body cannot see over the adults that are already there.

The way I see it is this:

When at WDW everyone is considered a child. Whether you choose to disagree or not. Everyone gets joy out of riding It's A Small World and Dumbo. No matter what, and no matter what anyone says everyone is considered a child at WDW. Though, it doesn't show up in the cash end of it.

Everyone screams on Splash Mountain, no matter what age. It's just is what it is.

I'm quite fond of the pirate ears myself! Especially the pink ones with the earring through the mouse ear. I'm waiting until Halloween, though!
