Will there be a concierge level at Kidani? Or do you have to stay at the hotel DVC rooms to be eligible for concierge?

Thanks!

Concierge is only in Jambo building. We all wished for a concierge floor in Kidani but it didn't and will not happen. You would think that it was so popular in Jambo that they would add it to the new building, but nope!

The only reason there is concierge at Jambo House is because DVC took all the fifth floor rooms (formerly concierge and deluxe rooms) and wound up taking the sixth floor rooms as well (located on the same floor as the Concierge Lounge). The sixth floor rooms don't have great views and used to be the smoking rooms. Since they were located on the Concierge Lounge floor and there probably wasn't a way to limit their access to the lounge without limiting the access to the elevator and stairs, they were kept as concierge rooms. It has nothing to do with their popularity. It was just a convenience to Disney.

Only the guests in those five two bedroom lockoffs on the sixth floor (three Sunset savanna and two pool) have access to the Concierge lounge.

I think pyrxtc understood the Jambo House concierge was sort of already there. But was thinking along the lines, that since the unintentioned concierge at JH is working so well....that it would have been nice to have it included into the KV plans ? I know I would have liked to see this.

If you add concierge to a resort, you wind up paying for additional staff, extra supplies (like food and beverage), extra services (cooking, dishwashing, etc). So your dues go up to pay for all those extras.

Perhaps it is because there was a relatively low risk to extend concierge services to a handful of DVC rooms in Jambo House because the services and costs are shared with hotel guests. And it would have presented problems if they had to move the lounge from the 6th floor to a lower floor so it was probably just easier to extend the Concierge option to AKV. Also, without the concierge option, very few guests (if any) would want to stay on the 6th floor given the view issues. So it was kind of a "no brainer" in my opinion.

It's a much bigger risk to put a new lounge in Kidani with additional CMs needing to be assigned to staff it. They would have to be sure that they would get enough guests year round willing to pay the extra points per night to cover the costs of operating it. I'm not sure the experience with Jambo House is enough to convince them that they could cover the costs of an additional lounge and staff. On the other hand, if the concierge rooms in Kidani had excellent savanna views, that would make them very attractive and lessen that risk.

Putting a lounge into Kidani would also have taken away several rooms from AKV and that would have increased the dues overall at the resort since the operating costs would have been spread over fewer rooms, though that affect would probably be pretty small.

I'm not sure that the due should go up for the added concierge services. DVD sold more points than they would otherwise sell due to the existence of conceirge rooms, so the additional purchase price should compensate them for providing those services. I doubt that this is how it actually works at Jambo House, however, but with only 10 CL rooms, the effect on AKV owners in terms of added dues is probably minimal. -- Suzanne

The existence of the concierge highlights an inherent issue with points systems in general. That each point is sold such that they can go when they want to go. Since more people want to go to higher demand times and room types, the inherent nature of concierge at AKV means DVC will almost certainly sell more points at a higher price than they would have without concierge. And I'm talking way beyond the points directly related to those given rooms.

im now OFFICIALLY confused...and i am one of those people who always wondered if any of the new dvc resorts would offer concierge

Here is another way to look at it. In a non-DVC resort, the Guest pays extra for Concierge and the money is use to cover the cost for the extra Cast Members and amenities with some profit.

At at DVC Concierge, the Member pays with some extra points. A Member using extra points doesn't cover the costs to pay for the extra Cast Members or amenities and it doesn't make any extra money for Disney.

I don't know where the money comes from to cover the cost but you can bet that it doesn't come out of the Mouse's pocket! ;)
