Kid Refuses to get on!!!!!!!

Several years ago my family, including my DS who was about nine or so, went on Alien Encounter. He had told us that he didn't want to go..afraid of the unexpected... but we talked him into it. During the "dark periods" of the ride I could hear him screaming and crying out. I felt bad afterwards and decided to really listen when the kids didn't want to ride something from then on. He finally went on the Stitch Ride last year but still remembers "Alien".
By the way he also freaked out during It's a Bug's Life! When they're ready they're ready...can't push them.

First freak out--DS(then 5) at Buzz Lightyear. All he TALKED about before we left was Buzz Lightyear. Couldn't WAIT to ride it--freaked when we were on the little platform thingy. I drug him on it because I knew he would love it. Wish I would have NEVER done that. We had to ride that ride 500 times that trip!!!! He absolutely LOVED it!!!

Next freak out--DS(then 7) at TOT. I didn't make him ride. He eventually came around and decided to ride. He LOVES it.

Next freak out--DS(then 8) at RNR. Got all the way up in line SEVERAL times--refused to ride. I didn't make him. FINALLY got him in the seat and before it took off, he started crying. I felt like the worst mother in the world. Although people in line probably didn't notice, I felt like everyone was staring at me and wondering why I was torturing my child. He LOVED it and goes on it every time now.

Next freak out--DS(then 9) got all the way through the Stitch line (his favorite character) and refused to go on it. We didn't go. Also refused to go on Dinosaur. We didn't go.

Nope, you're NOT alone.

My 9 y/o DD will not even get in line for Splash Mountain. She's ridden Tot, Space Mountain, Mission Space, but will NOT go on Splash Mountain. She says she dosen't want to get her face wet. Well excuuuuuuse me. I told her it's just like being in the shower(ok with a little heavier water pressure I guess), but she refuses. Same for Kali. Oct. 2005 was her first time riding Space Mountain. On the night of MNSSHP she wouldn't do it. When we went back to MK she decided to go, but as we got closer she started to panic. I had explained to her that she would sort of be sitting by herself, and that dad would be in front and I would be behind her. I started giving her the "there will be times in life..." speech. This one of course being when you will be afraid, but you must do something. I said you can scream the whole ride as loud as you, you can cry, but you're going to ride it. I knew she would love it if she could bring herself to do it. We went over the speed, the drops, the darkness, evrything I could think of. When we got on, I asked her if she wanted to hold my hand(I could reach her from behind), she said so no. Her first words when she got off " I can't believe I almost didn't ride that, It's AWESOME!!!!" And we proceeded to ride it 2 more times. If it had been something that I thought she might be scraed by, then I wouldn't have made her do it. But because I knew her fear was irrational, I talked her into it.

My son is the same way. Can't stand to get his face wet :umbrella: . He won't even wash it in the shower; he'll wait until he gets out so he doesn't get sprayed in the face.
He doesn't want Splash Mountain or Kali. I told him that we'll take a look when we get there and see if he changes his mind. He's a little timid by nature, so I'm letting him decide on his own this time, and I don't mind skipping them (it might be too cold anyway). We've got so much to do. But if he decides to do it, I think he'd really enjoy it. And I figure if he doesn't do it this time around, he'll probably be into it the next time we come :goodvibes .
