We are flying in on Aug 24 and will be at Disney for the free dining Aug 26 - Sept 3. I'm looking for a fun hotel for first 2 nights for kids who are 11 and 8. I know they'd love Nick Hotel, but prices right now are way too high. Can you recommend another hotel that has a cool pool and maybe some other on-site activities for this age range? Thanks, Jo

I think lots of the big resorts will have fun stuff to do - cool pools and all. What is your budget? Also, you could enjoy downtown disney, shopping, and definitely swimming! Will you have a car? Where are you staying in WDW? I have heard the nick hotel is really dirty. The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress has a nice pool, but I've seen other resorts advertised that do. Maybe the Hilton at DTD? To splurge, you could look into the Ritz Carlton - they have kids' activities. I think their rates are actually not too bad. And the JW Marriott next to it has what looks like a mini water park (lazy river). That would be fun for the kids!

thanks for the quick reply - I'll look into those other hotels. We will be at Port Orleans French Quarter at Disney, we will have a rental car. I'm hoping to get something in the $130-170 range...NIck right now is quoting around $250/night for those dates.

Have you ever considered staying onsite at Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure? It's still cheaper than the Nick hotel and on par with Disney deluxe hotels. You can show your room key (mag. card) at each ride for unlimited fast pass all day. truly worth its weight in gold. :cloud9: no running around for fast passes or worrying you might miss your window if you get on another ride.
I have 2 ds's, 10 and 7 and they LOVE US/IOA. esp. Spiderman, Shrek & the Mummy. It's so much more than roller coasters.
They have 3 onsite hotels and all are within walking distance (5-10 mins.) or a short water taxi ride (2-3 mins.) to the parks.
2 nights is a perfect amount of time too, though we're doing 3nts. at the Hard Rock in Sept. so we can have 1 extra day to relax by the pool. Sat. nights they have dive in movies by the pools! :cool2: popcorn:: I can't wait!
hope this helps! :goodvibes

Royal Pacific Resort in Universal is a great hotel. My kids didn't want to leave the pool to go to the parks!

We also have always had fun at the Swan/Dolphin with the grotto pool. Sometimes they have special prices during that time period.

Caribe Royale has a really nice pool. So does the Radisson Celebration. (Both are mousesavers recommended hotels). Check www.mousesavers.com for reviews and links for discounted prices.

why not book into a Universal hotel for the two nights and make use of the front of the line passes

I think the JW Marriott or the Ritz does that dive in movie thing also - they probably have something in your price range.
