Last Friday I decided to try a kickboxing class. I have been working out 5-7 days a week since January and thought it would be a piece of cake. NOT!! It kicked my butt. Half way through the class I wanted to stop but I wouldn't give in. By time I got home I had a migraine because my sugar had dropped so much. My shoulder blades are in terrible pain from all the punching and jabbing. I think for now, I will stick to yoga and the cardio machines. So much for thinking I was in shape. I give credit to all those people in the class that do it every week. But I am glad that i gave it a try.

Yikes! I've been hoping to give it a try! Oh man! I know it does look intimidating. Are you not going to go back and try again?

My gym only offers medium to high intensity kickboxing. If there was a low intensity, I would try it again. I have a problem with pushing myself in classes. I can push myself to the limit in yoga and not hurt myself but kickboxing was a bit to much. I would say give it a try. Each instructor is differant, you might find a more mild class. Also, there were some people in the class that didn't use gloves, but again, I had to push myself and use them. I say always try it once, then make your decision.

Before I hurt my knee, I did kickboxing 3-4 times a week. I loved it and my instructor explained that if you dropped your arms the intensisty would drop too. She was very clear about the need to work to your level and to take it slow. I am considering going back this fall. I would try a couple of other instructors. It is not responsible of the instructor to allow first timers to go all out. It is a wonderful workout.

I've been doing taebo at home & a cardio kick class at the gym but your kickboxing workout sounds intense! Did your instructor show any modifications for a beginner?

I'm just the opposite of you - cardio kick is fun but yoga & pilates kicks my butt!! I'm slowly (and when I say slowly I mean at a really really slow pace) getting better. It's difficult for me but I want to keep at it. My downward-facing dog looks like a lame dog and my camel pose looks like a mule but oh well....it'll get better eventually.
