KFK's First TR!

pssstttt Lorna......we're going to Fort DeSoto next week....Tue,Wed,Thu nights

you always go when the boss makes me work, would love to join you but!!!!
can't take off following week we r going to NY. Maybe we can meet up one night for dinner?

Let us know when u go to Ft. Desoto again, if we can get a reservation maybe we meet u there, it is near our home in Riverview, and I know u like being around TROUBLE!!!!
I apologize to KFK for temporarily going off topic.

Lorna, I would like nothing better than meeting up with you at Fort Desoto but we won't be back. Loved the dog park and especially the dog beach, but it's way too tight for the bigger rigs. But it's not so much the length, it's the height. I may have unknowingly scratched the rear of my MH scrapping on the palm trees as I was trying to squeeze into the site. They may buff out though. Also, as in most of state campgrounds, not having sewer hookups limits how long we can stay there. I don't understand why they don't allow a private sewer pumpout truck to service the state run campgrounds?
But we will be at the real Fort for 4 days on Labor Day week. I think you said you were going to be there then.

Ok, we now return you to the regularly scheduled TR.

sure, likely story. I bet if magicbus was going you'd be right there. I'll just slink over to my corner now.:sad1:

Love ever night caching up with your TR!! Awesome!

I am quite fond of the cool DisEars with your DisBoard names! I think i am going to have to steal that idea! (With your permission of course) :thumbsup2

I wasn't aware they quit making those pop up toy haulers. I saw that set up in the 100 loop. I think they were from New York. Some of the newer versions of Fleetwood had a flush toilet and hard sided shower you put into place once the camper is in the up position. They haul 3 four whheelers and have a storage area in front of the pop up as well. Very nice inside. Not huge, but they are nice for the outdoorsman.

I got to thinking about this, and I checked the Coleman website. I thought I had seen a pop-up toy hauler at the Tampa RV show this year. Sure enough, Coleman is still manufacturing one, although it is a different design than the one in KFK's photo. Here's a link to the Coleman site for anyone who might be interested: Coleman Pop-up Camper Toy Hauler

This is a pretty cool trailer. But, I don't think it would haul a golf cart.

Here is that link to the Christmas at Disney with Samantha Brown video for you TCD :happytv:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM7kvK3FR2w

Thank you for that link. I wasn't sure what year that was or exactly where to find it, but this is exactly what I was thinking of. If anyone reading along hasn't already looked at this video, take a look. You will see good old Samantha Brown at the Fort. And, her first stop is site 734, where she speaks to Charlie and Hilda, and then she catches a ride on their golf cart to go see the Howards over on the 300 loop. For any newbies, the Howards used to have the best Christmas display at the Fort. Unfortunately, Mrs. Howard died just after this special was filmed, and Mr. Howard has not been back at the Fort for the past couple of years. Since then, others, including Charlie and Hilda, have stepped their game up, and the displays have grown in number and size.

There you go, another thread hijack for you, KFK!

We are heading to a Wilderness Cabin at the begining of November for a week with a "Kenny Golf Cart". We are going to take your advice and, since it is our 3rd trip to WDW this year, we are going to relax and enjoy Fort Wilderness!

Third trip in one year!? Man, I'm green with envy. The most I've gone in one year is twice. I told DH after we got back home that I'd love to take a Fort Only trip in the fall sometime. Maybe not this year, but soon as possible. I'll bet the canoeing would be soooo nice in cooler weather.

KFK-

This thing beats the heck out of a lame TCD TR any day of the week.

I was away from the Disboards all weekend, so I have some catching up to do with my comments.

Instead of re-posting quotes and photos, I will just go ahead with my comments/questions/concerns/observations/drivel:

1. That pop-up that you said deserved some kind of award is, as Medic9016 said, actually a stock model Fleetwood. It is a pop-up toy hauler. I didn't know they stopped making them. They must not have sold very well. You don't see many around. But, boy, that camper has some gear! I love the cooler, grill and hammock. What loop was this on? At first, I thought they had their truck on the back of the site, but now I see that there is a site right behind them. So, where was this? I'm going to guess the 200 loop, but I'm not sure.

2. The folks with the Minnie Golf Cart are FW regulars. In fact, they hitched a trailer to that thing last Halloween, and won the Halloween Golf Cart contest!

3. I love the GAG photos (that's Giddyup and Go to those of you not in the know), but what are you doing with three sides (I see fries, slaw and beans)? Did you get a hook up?

4. That's Hilda and Charlie there on site 734. They (and their daughter and pups) have been there on this visit since before last Halloween. In the same site! Hilda does occasionally read the Disboards. Her screen name has the word Camelot in it, but I haven't seen her post. They are FOTCD (Friends of TCD). Oh, and did you know that they are TV stars? On the Christmas at Disney World with Samantha Brown special on the Travel Network a couple of years back, Samantha Brown visited their site, and Charlie took her around on a golf cart ride. Does anyone have a Youtube link for that video?

5. Good job on the site 617 photo! :thumbsup2

6. Great, but sad RC and DI photos! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

7. So, whose Mickey lamp post was that with the hanging green ears?

8. Did you happen to see the Bear Face at WL? I know you said you were going to look for it.

I am enjoying all of the photos. Thanks for taking the time to post these. It looks like your boys had a great time!

Keep up the good work!

TCD

First off...No TDC TR has ever, or ever will be referred to as lame!

They are legendary! Got it!? (but thanks for the compliment)

I loved the X-treme pop up! It was either 100 or 200 loop. I'm not positive which. I like functionality in a camper and this one appeared to have it in spades. It def got two thumbs up from me!

I see why the Minnie GC won the contest. Very cool.

I know that having 3 sides with my GAG made you jealous. I didn't have a hook up... just paid for an extra side! KFK could not order her first GAG of the trip w/out giving the CB's a try. Very good. Very good indeed.

Your friends in the 700 were very nice. I thought it looked like they'd been there a while. Their site had a very "settled in" look. She was very gracious to put up with me taking photos of her site...without asking...while she was standing right there. We have watched every Samantha Brown episode that's been made, so I know we've seen it. We probably have it recorded. Someone posted a link later in the TR.

I have some pics of 617 that are a little better. I'll share later. It was a bad site. :sad2:

The blue rope light Mickey ears and lamp were, I think, Kristabelle's site. I rode by there, but there was a big ruckus going on. I wasn't sure if it was good or bad so we just decided to come back later. I found out later she was removing a splinter from one of the kids. It didn't sound like it was going well. Sadly I was never able to catch up with her. Next time I'll just knock no matter what's going on!

I did try to see the bear at WL, but was never able to. Everytime we were on a night boat it was standing room only and I couldn't get a good viewpoint. I'll try again next trip.

You are more than welcome. It's actually a lot of fun. I always enjoy the TR's of other Fiends, hopefully everyone is enjoying this one.

Here is that link to the Christmas at Disney with Samantha Brown video for you TCD :happytv:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM7kvK3FR2w

:thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing this!

I would hope they tried to catch up with you and it was just that you weren't there at the time? I know first hand how difficult it is to catch someone at their site. I'm going to think that even if it wasn't the case.

I hope I didn't sound miffed about it! I understand how busy those WDW vacations can be. Even when we're spending the entire day at the Fort we're probably galavanting all over in the GC, swimming or expoloring somewhere. It was hard not to be disappointed to find ears, but not be able to meet the folks that went with them, but I did understand. :goodvibes

You're other quote just vanished, but I just wanted to let you know that I have no prob with the hijack. In fact, I saw some photos of Fort Desoto on another thread and it looked really nice.

Glad to have you following along.

Feel free to copy the design. But make sure you hide them from Magicbus...he does make insinuations that he's gonna snatch them when he visits the Fort. :lmao:

I am enjoying this so much. :cloud9:

I'm glad. Thanks for joining in.

There you go, another thread hijack for you, KFK!

TCD

Just told DH that I don't mind at all.

It actually brought a few out of the woodwork that I didn't know were following along. :thumbsup2

Now to finish our day at MK.

The first two pics are just a little scenery before we dock at MK.

Our main objective is to see the MSEP.

I was so excited that I could hardly contain myself!

I don't want to put it off just in case the weather causes a problem later in the trip.

102_5935.jpg

I never get tired of seeing this view!

102_5936.jpg

While DH heads for the security bag check line I pause a moment to take a photo of the train station.
102_5942.jpg

Apparently I didn't take that many photos this evening,

but since the ONLY thing I care about is the MSEP tonight,

I will go along with any plan until its time.

We packed in as many rides and activities as possible.

Because of the crowds already lining up for the 9:00 parade when we arrived...

On the advice of a CM we opted to wait on the 11:00 parade.

Good decision.

DS7 on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

102_5947-1.jpg

There is a lot of construction going on across from Winnie the Pooh.

Apparently they are adding a Little Mermaid attraction and a Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant. Cool. Sounds good to me.

I'm glad they decided to move the tree from the hundred acre wood over by the Winnie the Pooh entrance. I believe it's gonna look fantastic when they finish the redo.

102_5961-1.jpg

It's starting to get late, but we have time for a couple of more rides before grabbing a spot for the fireworks and MSEP.

On our way to SW, the Carousel looked so pretty lit up I couldn't turn down the chance for a photo.

This one doesn't do it justice.

102_5965-1.jpg

102_5972-1.jpg

We've gotten a pretty good spot for the FW and a curbside seat for the parade. I couldn't have planned it better! :cheer2:

DS7 lasted long enough for a little bit of the FW, but neither made it for the parade. That gave me the perfect opportunity to video the entire parade.

Hooray!

I know that sounds mean, but we made sure we lined up for the 9:00 parade later in the trip. ;)

102_5978-1.jpg

102_5979.jpg

A pic of this CM was necessary to remind me of the hard time this poor woman had keeping the traffic flow moving in the right direction.

Poor thing.

There's no way she could've had a voice left at all.

102_6000-1.jpg

These photos are from little video clips on my "snap" cameras video mode.

The FW setting wasn't working out so I decided to try my pics from video technique.

Here are the results...

102_7676.jpg

102_7677.jpg

102_7678.jpg

Not professional, but not terrible.

I got some better ones later by using the Sport mode and turning off the flash.

Since I was video recording the parade there are no pics this time, but I used the pics from video technique another night. I'll share a few of those later.

That concludes our Day at MK.

Tomorrow we've opted for a little R and R at the Fort...no parks...just Fort.

I love the Fort.

I'm enjoying your TR, and I'm especially looking forward to seeing (hopefully) lots of pics from the Fort on your next installment!

Wasn't the MSEP amazing? We just loved it!
It really took me back to our kiddie trips to the World.

Thanks!

There will be lots of Fort pics in this TR. I posted some clothesline pics on Jen's thread a little while ago.

Nothing wrong with just forting around. Looking forward to lots of pics!!!
:thumbsup2

Yes, I agree. I love just fiddle forting around. :lmao:

Wasn't the MSEP amazing? We just loved it!
It really took me back to our kiddie trips to the World.

It was definitely a thrill for me. The crowds went wild when the music started. It was like being transported back in time to my childhood too. :cloud9:

I forgot to mention that the Mickey float broke down just before it got to us and the poor mouse had to keep dancing while the little men in suits were radioing for help. Finally a CM, on what looked to me like a tractor, showed up...

He simply backed up to the float for a couple of seconds and we were up and running again. Then he just sped away as the fans cheered and clapped for him.

It just added to the fun.

BTW: I was disappointed I never found you while we were there. You were in the cabins right?

I just have one question.....

WHAT THE HECK IS A SANDLAPPER?

To be honest...

I don't know.

All I know is that's what South Carolinians are called.

Denise says it means you eat dirt.

But I don't really eat dirt.

Perhaps it comes from all of the beautiful pristine sandy beach coastline of SC?

ETA: Curiosity just got the best of me...so I Googled sandlapper.

Apparently Denise and I were both right.

The term started in Marion county and referred to the sandy coastal areas.

and....

we ate dirt.

Some sort of clay to be exact.

A practice brought over by the slaves.

Apparently the white clay served many purposes. One of which was medicinal. The clay contains a key ingredient found in Kaopectate.

Go figure.

I will no longer refer to myself as a sandlapper. I am a proud South Carolinian.

I apologize to KFK for temporarily going off topic.

Hey Magicbus!

How about the mosquitoes and raccoons?

Whenever I have camped at Fort DeSoto, I have had plenty of both.

TCD

None of each at our site but there were some mosquitoes at the dog park.

Hmmm.

That's interesting.

It's been a few years since we camped there.

But, back then, the raccoons ran the place.

One of these days, I'm going to head down to try out the dog beach. We have a great one closer to us at Honeymoon Island State Park, but I have heard good things about the one at Fort DeSoto.

TCD

Yeeesss! A day of R & R at the Fort. The moment I've been waiting on!

KFM, KFD and KFBro will be here sometime today and Kenny will be delivering their cart to us this a.m.

Here's a photo of our loop 900 sign. We loved this loop.

Another random shot of 617. :sad2:

I don't think these campers ever even let out their awning.

We did make it to a campfire/movie later in the trip. Yes, there are pics.

Couple of more random shots.

The rest of the posse has arrived.

This is Dad, Bro, KFM and DS7 about to take a spin on their superfast Kenny Cart.

The GC path to Settlement and Pioneer Hall.

102_6058.jpg

This photo is the source of big laughs for DH and I.

Notice the bushes in the lower left of the photo.

A couple of years ago KFM wrecked her bike and fell in those very bushes.

When a kind stranger rushed over to help, KFM with all her pride, jumped up and began shouting....

"I know how to ride a bike! I promise I really DO know how to ride a bike!" LOL!

Guess nothing was hurt but her pride! Hahahahahaha!

102_6062.jpg

Here's an old FW icon. The Clover King covered wagon.

102_6063.jpg

Another pic of the Settlement TP.

I'll bet that worker in the background is one of the roofers working on the building at the marina.

I'm a regular Nancy Drew aren't I?

102_6065.jpg

No explanation needed on this one. The famous Lawnmower Tree.

Or rather, as I've heard lately....the Lawnmower Stump.

102_6069.jpg

102_6070.jpg

Those carriage rides sure do look like fun.

102_6072.jpg

The Pioneer Hall playground. DS7's fave.

102_6073.jpg

Crockett's Tavern and Pioneer Hall.

Wish I was on that porch with a tall glass of iced tea!

102_6074.jpg

The FW Pavillion. The BYBBQ looks like it would be fun.

Have any of you ever done it?

It is still sad to go back there and not be going to RC.

IMO.

102_6080.jpg

Quick shot of Clementine's Beach.

DS5 enjoying a ride in the front seat for a change.

I'm usually hanging onto him in the back.

More of our first Forting around day coming soon.....
