Hi

Dd and I are thinking about going to Key West for a long weekend at the end of July.

Looking for some help and suggestions.....

What should we see?

What should we not miss?

Where should we stay? Is there a certain area that is better than others? Will we need a car once we are there (we are driving from Orlando)

Restaurant or bar suggestions.

Thanks for all your help

Have a Magical Disney Day!!

When we stay in Key West we like to stay at the Ocean Key. The address is 0 Duval Street - they have the sunset pier and are in the heart of everything. http://www.oceankey.com/

We stayed at a little *ahem* dive in the central part of Key West. Cheap, clean, but that's all. We walked everywhere. Didn't need a car. We enjoyed the sunset pier, too. We also took a boat trip out to see fish since I really don't like to swim. That was a lot of fun. We also went to see Ernest Hemingway's home, the Truman White House, ate breakfast at a little open air restaurant right on the beach, and had our margaritas at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. We're talking about going back again.

What area or street should we try to stay on or doesn't that matter?

If you want a reasonable priced hotel, look at the Best Western Hibiscus. It is a little farther down from Mallory Square, but a nice hotel, very reasonable. We stayed there 2 years ago and it gets rave reviews on Trip Advisor. You can walk from there, but it is a bit of a hike. So you take it slowly and shop on the way!

If you are willing to spend more, there are several hotels right on the beach by Mallory Square. They look really nice and I hope to be able to stay there on one of our trips.

For restaurants, we like Duffy's and there is a little Italian place close to the Best Western that I can't remember the name of right now!

For activities, we like the Hemingway House and Truman Little White House. We also did the boat excursion which was fun. There is LOTS of shopping opportunities of all kinds.

Key West is my DH's favorite place!

We visited Key West about seven years ago. The drive through the keys is beautiful! You really don't need a car once you're on Key West. I know we parked our car when we arrived and didn't use it again until the day we left.

We stayed in a condo on Duval Street at the opposite end from Mallory Square. I can't remember the name of them, but I remember they were located on the right-hand side of Duval Street if you were facing Mallory Square. Each unit had a name (we stayed in "The Artist House") and most had a private balcony and a patio with a jacuzzi tub. There was also a rooftop pool. Very nicely decorated and very clean.:)

I loved the Conch Train tour of the island, eating at the original Margaritaville, and visting the Hemingway House. Sunset festivities in Mallory Square is a fun experience, too! One day we took a catamaran tour to Fort Jefferson Dry Tortugas where we had lunch, relaxed on the beach and snorkeled.

Key West is very laid back and is a very relaxing place to visit. There a lot of shops and restaurants all up and down Duval Street. I loved the cats and dogs lazing around the shops and the chickens roaming everywhere.:)

My husband and kids went on one of those walking Ghost tours and said it was fun.
