Key To The World and DVC Member Status ...

We were just at The World and some of our cards had 'DVC Room Only' listed on them, some were 'Room Only', and none of them had the usual '*DVC Member*' tag on them. I didn't notice right away; in fact, I only noticed when I went to use a perk and they advised me that my KTTW didn't show DVC Member. Luckily, one of the other cards had it listed and we were able to get the perk.

I went to the front desk to see about getting a new card and I was informed that they are no longer printing anything to do with DVC on the KTTW cards. Apparently, this is due to stays being booked by members for others and they don't want these guests taking advantage of the perks -- which I completely understand. It was supposed to be that you were to advise MS of this fact if you were booking for someone who was not a member, but I guess it simply was either not being done or not followed all the way through.

In any case, does anyone else find this to be an inconvenience? I don't particularly care to carry a bunch of ID cards with me on my trips and usually only carry my KTTW and my AP.

I understand the reasoning, but wouldn't it just be easier for members to show their membership card at checkin' to authorize the printing of the DVC Member Status Tag? I know they can't do it with the AP's due to the biometrics, but there is no reason they shouldn't be able to do this for DVC Member, TIW, etc. It's getting to be that I trade the bunch of 'cards' and ID's that I normally carry for a bunch of 'vacation-only' cards now. :(

Does anyone have a link to any news/announcement that this is the new policy going forward? Or has the "Due to overwhelming member demand ..." notice not gone out yet in typical DVC fashion?

No, it was just something that happened, probably with the change over to the newer booking/reservation system. I always carry my member card with me, as well as my pass and my KTTW. Plus my driver's license as proof of my identification. Not overwhelming load by any means.

We were told by a resort manager that the real reason is that the "Lilo" software upgrade for Disney didn't take into account that DVC reservations are different. We have found that if you are staying at a resort that has been totally converted to the new software, the card printing is correct and segmenting the travel plan works for the DDP.

But who really knows, things can change tomorrow.

Wow ... I usually only carry my KTTW and AP; and the AP only on park days since it's not water proof.

I suppose I'll just need to have a clip for 'home' and a clip for my 'DVC home'. ;)

What do you mean by segmenting the travel plan for DDP?

I'll be back out in a few weeks, so I'll see what happens then.

In the meantime, I await the: "Due to overwhelming member demand ..." explaination. :lmao:

You can split up your reservation to only get DDP for part of your stay. For example, nights 1, 2, 3 with dining plan; nights 4, 5, 6 without. Or some nights regular dining plan, some nights deluxe dining plan. What they do is create separate reservations for each part.

Yep, our cards where like that during both of our trips this year (so far). In January my card said DVC room only, or DDP Multiple, (we had 10 different cards before the trip was over as we had part ddp and it was a mess). In May we had DVC room only and my DD and her family had ddp multiple. (She's an owner and her card did not say DVC). I always travel with my membership cards in my wallet.

Most times for the DVC discount they have asked to see card anyway so I carry it , also with the AP they often want to see drivers license too, so I don't see the big deal.

I never even looked at my KTTW card before for anything dvc related. I just checked mine from January and it does say DVC room only. So from now in it won't say it? I always keep my member card with me anyway so no biggie.

I don't mind carrying my DVC membership card with me, along with my KTTW card, pass, gift cards I use for payment and my license.

I don't like having a CC attached to my KTTW card so I have to carry a small pouch anyway and all the cards easily fit.

Hmm, we just got back from Saratoga Springs on Wednesday. I am looking at my kttw cards and they both say DVC Member. Perhaps this has been fixed.

This is exactly what we do.

I like the idea of folks having to show their blue member cards for perks if it means that non-members will not have access to the perks we get. If someone wants those perks....let them buy DVC. :thumbsup2

*We spent 10 days at WDW in June, doing a split stay (AKV & BCV). None of our room keys had "DVC" anything printed anywhere on them.

Ah, well, that is pretty cool ... so you don't need to do it for length of stay anymore. Is that true with cash reservations as well (ie: not on points) ?

If not, I'm wondering if this is by design or a loophole they're going to close?

Please don't get me wrong, I agree with the reasoning. I don't want non-members getting access to perks.

That said, I don't see why your membership card cannot be presented at checkin and the status applied to your card. It's supposed to be KTTW, not KTTW unless you're a DVC member and AP holder and TIW holder, and etc. ;)

Not all places that offer discounts will accept just the DVC card. I always have to show my membership card to get the 20% discount at the Swan/Dolphin restaurants.

I've learned I need to carry the blue DVC membership card as well as the KTTW card, AP, TiW and a photo ID. Really, 5 cards don't take up much more room in a pocket or lanyard than do 4, lol. I have a really small camera case and they all fit in there just fine. :)

I bought an aluma wallet to take on vacation. I'm usually not one to buy stuff off of an infomercial but it works great. They sell them at walmart now. It will easily hold 10 cards and some cash. Nothing can fall out of it while its closed. I used to carry a leather bi-fold with a snap but it would get stretched out and stuff began to fall out. That would be my recommendation for the guys who just want something to keep in their pocket.

Thanks! I'll check this out. :thumbsup2

Not true for cash stays, and it was done on purpose.
