I live up here in Scotia... (Hi from upstate...)

It's not the snow plows that get me during the winter... it's all my NEIGHBORS who get up at 5 AM and all start their snow BLOWERS all at the same time... who needs an alarm clock!!! :scared1:

I start work in Scotia every day at 0600. Tink rules is correct. You have to avoid running over people with snowblowers on the morning commute!! :confused3 They're everywhere!

I moved to Florida from Albany and I dont remember snow blowers being that prevalent.

We did have a neighbor that did something every Sunday morning that made me CRAZY.

He had a big SUV with big, silver hub caps and he would wash his car every Sunday morning at 6AM.

He's hit those hubcaps with that high powered hose and it sounded like he had cymbals right outside my bedroom window.

He also had an outboard motor and he would fill a metal trash can with water (again with the cymbals) and run the outboard motor in the trash can. This might not be odd behavior if it werent for the fact that he didnt own a boat.

Getting back to the snow plows.....we had a long, double drive way and I would just finish clearing the drive way when the plow would come through and make that 4 foot wall of wet, heavy, packed snow.

I just gave myself the shivers. I'll take the threat of hurricanes any day.

Michelle, I 100% agree with you. People around here do the same exact thing and then the snow plows come around and ruin it all.

You know... running outboards in your garbage is big up here... there's alot of stuff up here we never did in Jersey...

& the snow plow blades are bigger then I am... :scared:

When my mom retired we decided to move north... my family however thinks I live in the tundra... :rotfl: Labor Day comes around and it never fails... my brother calls and asks if we've had snow yet...

Kevin...what town did you live in?

I lived in Loudonville and I havent been to Jumpin Jacks in years and years and years.

They used to serve black raspberry soft serve ice cream that was beyond good.

I was never a fan of putting cole slaw on my burger. Isnt that what a Jack Burger is?

Things I miss about the Capital District...

Bob and Ron's Fish Fry or Ted's Fish Fry
L-Kens
Jumpin Jacks
Spa Brahaus German restaurant in Balston Spa
Fo'Castle Farms
Being able to be on the other side of the city in under 10 minutes (the highway system is pretty great)
Lake George and Saratoga in Autumn
Real trees (I like Palm trees and Oaks.....but I miss real trees)

I'll think of more.

And no...I dont miss these enough to move back to Albany.

I'm not annoyed by the snow plows, actually. I mean, where are they supposed to shove the snow?

What annoys me is that everybody in my neighborhood blows the snow right out into the road. Even after the plow goes through, our neighborhood's roads are full of snow because nobody can just blow it into the grass where it won't get in anybody's way.

You don't have to move back but you have an open invite to visit any time... :thumbsup2

I can't wait until Jumpin Jacks opens... I waited in line last March in the COLD to get my first Jackburger (yes with coleslaw) but they also just came out with a sausage and pepper sandwich last year which is really good... the Raspberry soft serve is still there AND they have dole whips!!!:banana: (even Pineapple...)

& we have the Scotia Cinema... best little 1 plex around!!! It shows the older movies (by a couple of weeks...) but sometimes you watch the coming attractions and they're for movies that opened months ago!!! But what can you expect for being able to take 2 people to the movies including popcorn and a soda for under $15... & I took my nephew to the Malta drive-in because in TX where he lives they don't have them like that...

I'm close enough to do Lake George as a day trip but I LOVE and hope to have a place up in Speculator on Lake Pleasant (hoping by this summer actually...) I had to laugh on the podcast when Pete said he had to go all the way to Austrailia to see stars... he' hasn't been to the Adirondacks... :woohoo:

I love the donuts from Fo'Castle.. .I LAUGH at the traffic up here when it's Whizzing by at 60 at rush hour... The Track in the summer (and I have NO idea what Disney was thinking when they designed SSR because they left out having Siro's and Mrs. Londons as a restaurant and a bakery...and well... most of Saratoga...)

&&&& We have the 109th Airwing!!! They're right here at Schenectady Airport... They are the crew that go to Antarctica!!!! They buzz my house...in C130's... and we get a kick out of it... the rest of the neigbors hardly notice them, but sometimes I feel like I have a big arrow painted on my roof they use as navigation... :rotfl:

I have a neighbor who in the middle of the blizzard 2 years ago (with 2 feet of snow...) opened his garage door, saw that some of the senior citizens on the street were struggling, promptly closed the door and went back inside... and then came out again when it was dark to do his driveway... :sad2::sad2:

It isn't the snow plows, or even the snow blowers, it is the darn "private snow removal" trucks that contract with individual homeowners to clear out laneways. First, the city plow goes down the street, then the trucks with the plow blade attached to the front go up and down the streets plowing out individual laneways--one night we had five vehicles (or the same truck 5X?) on our tiny street clearing out laneways.

I work on Stratton.

Very cool!!! You know I used to think that there were like 30-40 people whow worked over there... I never thought there were like 700!!!

Ever have lunch at Olivers? I had breakfast there today... BEST eggs benny... :thumbsup2

I have Jay... he goes up and down the street with his snowblower getting everyone out...he's really worth the $25 when it's a couple of feet.. :thumbsup2

But I know the trucks... they go in and drag the snow out and then push it over onto the lawns... there are mountains sometimes on peoples lawns well into April...

Not that I mind snow removal! It is a necessary thing when you have lots of snow. But, those trucks with the plow blade in front can be really noisy. We thought it was the city plow coming down our street multiple times.
Around here a lot of people have seasonal snow removal contracts with one of the local landscaping companies. There is a set price for the season, depending on the size of your laneway. The one year it snowed very heavily, the companies asked their subscribers to pay more--but that was really unusual.

I was watching the coverage of the snow down south and the snow plows were scraping the pavement so much that sparks were flying... I'm like "Lift (the you know) what blade!!!"

I'm also having fun with all my disfriends who are saying that they have 4 inches of snow...and they don't know what to do with it... that's nothing up here...

& I never buy bread and milk... Chocolate yes... :thumbsup2

That makes me crazy as well. We have a hill at the top of our street and the neighbors blowing snow into the street makes it super slippery to drive on and requires a running start sometimes to get up.

Lease.. the babies are beautiful!!! and Growing fast!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes
