Kevin ...about the not fitting in

Being in the "cool" group is relative. I was told that I was in the "cool" group growing up and that people felt left out while I thought someone else was in the "cool" group being left out. Besides, Groucho said it best... I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members. Oh and for you <sarcasm> mark people, try going here for the SarcMark.

I dont see it as I am not one of the in crowd on the Dis, I just struggle to fit in, nobodys fault but mine. But I was the fat girl in school with the buck teeth and I think for some it follows you. When people meet me they think I am so charasmatic etc...but it takes a lot for me to be that fun person, I have to work on it.....SO ---Deep Breathe--- I am going to work on becoming a fully functioning part of the DIS.

Hi I'm Angie and will become a more productive part of the Dis!
I am sarcastic and have a somewhat GSOH, I dont think I throw flames...but lets see, and I give a damn, I care. I am hoping that when the NEXT PODCAST CRUISE is annouced I can go....but working on that one with the other half ..lol

Angie

BTW my fave is Tigger

This is directed more toward everyone rather than any one poster, but I am new to the boards. I lived in Fla. for 17 years, have visited the parks 43 times and am a huge WDW fan. I've worked in the past for TDS and enjoyed it and we're looking forward to taking a trip back to "The World" as soon as we can.

So here is the one thing for the last year that I still don't get -- Cake or Pie? Is there a simple explaination?

It's a great day to be alive.

I'm headed to San Francisco on Highway 1 so I'm a bit distracted.

I am most certainly not blaming anyone for their level of participation or interest. Maybe not everyone is interested in participating at full throtle.

If you are interested in that level of participation....it"s up to you to let us know.

The party analogy is a. poor choice on my part. As one of the hosts, if I were to see you sitting alone at a party, I'd invite you to join whatever conversation in which I was involved.

I can't do that here. I can't see you sitting at your computer. I don't even know you are there until you tell me you are.

I said it before.... if you want to participate, say something. PM Kathy or myself.

Speak up. We're interested in hearing what you have to say.

thats why I spoke up I wanna be a part, I want to get to know the folks who may be on the NEXT podcast cruise *** thats what I am aiming for. I blame no one but myself, I am on the dis everyday, and I dont post often I think of it then just dont, dont want to upset anyones apple cart, but like I say I wanna be a part and get to know people.

Angie

The best way to get to know people is:

1. Find a topic that looks interesting.
2. Post your .02 on that topic.

Or...

Create a new topic if you want people to chime in with their opinions on your topic, like you did now.

But as others have said, unless you participate, we don't know you exist!

I'll just step off my soapbox and head to the corner with the comfy, overstuffed couch and snack table. ;)

There are snacks? popcorn::

there are groups or what some call 'cliques', but not sure i would 'label' them that way, i like the 'active participants' as a better term, i mean labels aren't usually nice anyhow, regardless of what they are. "cliques" sounds so evil high school cheerleader-esque.

there are folks that have been on here a lot, met in person and really bonded, so yes, they share inside jokes and really know each other. that can make others feel left out from time to time. but like Kevin said- speak up, ask about the history of the inside joke- insert yourself, find your own special circle of friends and create your own inside jokes.

i don't consider myself part of the active participant group. doesn't hurt my feelings, i don't feel left out. i simply know i don't have the time to get to know everyone i would like to and can't spend as much time here as I would like too (If i could, i'd be on here all day!)- and that's because of me. between work, my son and everything else that demands my time, unfortunately, making friends here falls down the list a bit, however much i might hate that. i do have a lot of friends here though and you can always find a good laugh and definitely SUPPORT. even from those i've never met in person and that is a pretty amazing gift (thanks DIS!) :wizard:

i did the podcast cruise last year and met wonderful folks here, even with the limited time i had (needed to be helping my mom around the ship a lot). i wish i could cruise with you guys again, but family once again won that battle for December. i know i will miss out on the cruise and will hate it, and be envious of all the new memories developed and new inside jokes, but at the same time, maybe i'll pop up in flattie form or something or be able to run into a few before the cruise! ;) plus, i get to experience it all in the eyes of all of the DISers, which is a lot of fun in itself.

groups of people that share common interests, opinions, insights or heck, just live near each other from the DIS are bound to bond and become close. there's nothing wrong with that. it's fabulous! and i guess it is human nature for some people to feel 'left out' or threatened by that. i say, that's unfortunate, but they can change that themselves.popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

Hi Carol!

I don't remember quite where the pie/ cake debate started, although I think Jen may of been the culprit.

As far as I can remember one thread started going ugly, and someone chimed in (probably Jen) asking if they would like some cake. Then others, trying to defuse the thread started the cake vs. pie argument, to kind of mock how the thread was turning.

Ever since if a thread is going a bit awry someone starts up cake v. pie!

i was trying to remember the history of it too and can't. although i am certain Jen had to be a part of it. i think you covered it brilliantly though- it is a nice 'distraction' when things get a little muddy. i mean who doesn't love pie or cake? okay, i am a cookie fan myself.

While the cake v pie debate has morphed into a thread hijacking I can't even give a definitive explanation of how is started. I do know that the "I like pie" post has been around a long time and on many discussion forums. I think DIS'ers have turned into something different and a distraction from heated threads and trolls.

Yeah, I have some fudgy brownies over there in The Corner. You can bring the popcorn or any snack that floats your boat.

Be right over!!!

I only became eligible as a sister wife when I turned 21, but still no one seems to have got me yet! :rotfl:

I personally feel I should meet a potential husband face to face before committing to anything!
