Wow, now you're talking about K-cups contributing to global warming...IF there really is global warming, I'm pretty sure factories and automobiles play a much bigger role than tiny little plastic cups sitting in a landfill.

If you choose not to believe that global warming exists, that is up to you. I am not saying that you're wrong. I do know that all this garbage is causing problems. It's been a proven fact that the landfills are over packed and there are 'harmful gases that come from them'. I know that because of thousands of studies that have been done...not because I'm guessing.

I question your thought that 'small things' can't add up to a big problem though. The reason I question it, is because plastic bags are small things and a lot of people have proven to me that they are a big problem...And if three plastic bags are equal to 1 K-cup (I got that number from several scientific studies that took place over the last few years) , what does that make K-Cups that come into the landfill by the millions every year? One snow flake is small, but millions of snow flakes that keep on coming for days on end is a big problem.

Everyone is different, and a lot of people thought it to be CRAZY to not want to use plastic bags MANY years ago- some people thought that no harm could come from a tiny little plastic bag. Look at them NOW.

I thought in order to blame something on man made global warming, there has to be actual proof that there IS man made global warming. I'm pretty sure the verdict is still out on that

I only make one cup a day, weekdays. It would be much more wasteful for me to brew a small pot each day. A singular serve coffeemaker is perfect for me.

I commented on one of your posts. That's hardly obsessively following you. Several other posters also commented on it. It was rather insulting.

Yes, this is what's wrong with America. We're willing to trade quality for convenience and we've convinced ourselves we're better off.

It's not only America...Nestlé marketed and sold a similar contraption in Europe specifically for baby formula. I think it's making it's way over here, but it wasn't marketed here first...

As for the keurig, my husband has one. Has one cup a day, rarely will he have two. He has slowly switched over to tea. Personally, I only like iced coffee, so I don't bother with the keurig (who wants diluted iced coffee, yuck!). I use the Pioneer Woman's method of making iced coffee.

If you can't afford them and think they are to expensive, maybe a keurig isn't for you. Its ok not everything sold in the stores is for everyone. If you can afford it and just don't like it good for you, you obviously don't drink keurig. I'm sure you have a fab expresso machine or french press yay its nice to have time to make sure things are set to the right temp and clean up after them. Kudos..

I think its already been shown that their are more environmentally friendly ways to use the system and again if you don't like them then don't buy them.

Yes, I know that half of all americans are obsessed with the keurig coffee systems. I, myself, enjoyed it for a while. I've never owned a keurig, but I know people who own them.

Then, all of these reports have come out in the past year or two that say that the K-Cups are NOT EVEN CLOSE to being recycleable. Doesn't it sort of bother you that every single K-cup will sit in a landfill for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS? I know that my sister in law recylces and actually PUTS hers into her recycle bin, but every single one PUT in there has to get plucked out, because they cannot be recycled.

Now, I am IN NO WAY a tree hugger. I am not an overly cautious recylce crazy person who thinks that we need to do away with all non-recycleables. BUT, I do have a problem with the K-Cups. My biggest issue is that Keurig KNOWS it's a problem, but because people continue to buy them in mass quantities they don't think that they need to be changed? Or what?

Then, on top of all of those K-Cups is the issue of 'landfill gases' that are causing the world to start to show signs of some major issues. ONE of those issues has been addressed recently, in the form of a news clip done by CBS news. It discusses scientists who think COFFEE WILL BE EXTINCT in several years down the road, BECAUSE of these types of harmful gasses. So, actually Keurig (in the over all picture) is CONTRIBUTING to their own nail in the coffin of the resource that they rely on 100% for running their company. I KNOW that it's not just K-Cups that are causing this problem, but they have become a HUGE PROBLEM in the past two years, because they are OVER TAKING landfills.

I'm not saying that we need to 'boycott keurig', but why can't we all start asking THEM to change their design? Why SHOULDN'T they be forced to make a better product that's not going to be so harmful to the environment? How can they get away with this?

Sure, many of you think "it's all a bunch of bull...we don't care about recycling." and, sure, you may not. But OBVIOUSLY, our country as a whole is concerned for the most part about our children and grand children and the quality of THEIR LIVES...And if you have kids, you are concerned about their health and well being...

My MIL and FIL go throuh 10-12 K-cups a day. They have one of those re-usable cups to use- but they are too lazy to clean it so they don't use it. I am sure that A LOT of people opt for the k-cup option over the re-usable cup, RIGHT? I mean they use this machiene because it's quick and easy How quick and easy is it to have to constantly be cleaning out that re-usable cup for every cup of coffee you drink?

Now, don't get me wrong. The keurig systems produce great cups of coffee (even though 1 of their "good cups of coffee" comes in a smaller size than ANY cup in my house!!!). I am just raising the question or at least some AWARENESS of the issue that these dumb K-cups have been creating.

I wonder if people are aware? Or if people could all get together and actually DO SOMETHING to change this problem...I've written to Keurig, and they have not even bothered to respond to any 'respectfully concerned e-mails'...I have taken great care of writing them e-mails about this issue...(much better than I've written in this post as I'm not the best speller- but I know that and it doesn't concern me unless I am writing a more formal letter or e-mail...)

I like the Bunn system. Their pods can be used for your garden compost! The only problem I've noticed with those is that no stores around me sell them, so we have to buy them online.

Does anyone else just use a regular coffee maker anymore? My DH and i both drink coffee in the morning, about 4 good size cups total. Why would i want a keurig? What is so good about it? I thought it was for people who were the only coffee drinker in their house and they only want 1 cup of coffee, and not a pot. I must be out of the loop!

We still use a regular coffee maker. In fact, I just got a Krups that brews into the carafe so it doesn't waste electricity keeping the coffee hot after brewing. It also has an "aroma" feature that makes a very strong coffee on 1/3 less grounds than on the regular setting. Using the washable micro filter, it doesn't get much greener than that.

I do understand it quite well in fact, because my husband is an R&D director for a local factory that produces plastics and they have had to change ALL of their products to be enviornmentally friendly and able to be recycled. They had to make the change, or loose customers. That was that.

Emissions are gases produced by a product after it sits for a while- like in the landfill. These 'gases' contribute to global warming/climate changes...they are produced by a lot of products that cannot be recycled...plastic bags, diapers, KCups...hundreds of products. And they are all problems.

This thread was not started to 'fight about keurig and if it makes good or bad coffee.' it was started to raise awareness that KCups have become the number 1 or number 2 problem for landfills- which is a fact that was given to me along with factual information from someone who manages a large city waste management and recycling facility.

I did not, ever ask people to 'stop using keurigs' I asked people to become aware that this is ONE of many issues we can HELP to fix by sending them an e-mail or writing a letter.

MANY, MANY, MANY companies have been FORCED to become more environmentally friendly...auto industry, large corporations and many buisnesses have had to comply. Why should keurig be any different?

Those companies have been forced by the government regulating so maybe you are addressing your letter of concern to the wrong place when you send it to Keurig and maybe you need to be writing to the President. Although I am pretty sure K-cups are not anywhere near the top of his list of things that need to be regulated for the environment.

Well we finally went out and got one last night (the next one up, after the mini. B40 I think). I really like it so far. I think we are also going to get one for our daughter in college for xmas since she loves coffee and buys it daily.

I'd like to get her a ton of the coffee to last her a while too. We do have a Sams membership but it's pretty far from me. I read earlier on the thread someone said they buy it in bulk with a coupon. Do they have a "mixed" version there or is the box all the same variety? Just trying to think of the cheapest way to buy a bunch of k-cups.

We get our normal kcup from Costco. Any flavored or specialty type cups we get from Bed Bath & Beyond with a coupon or from keurig.com.

We got the mini one last year for Christmas. I found one on Amazon for $50. It was one that someone got as a gift, didn't want it. It still had all the foam packaging and sample k-cups.

We use it almost every day. We each fix one cup, Mon.-Fri. We use chunky coffee mugs and it fills it, leaving enough room for milk. When my youngest goes to college in the fall, my husband and I will be empty-nesters, and I will buy us a new one, and give her this little one.

We also belong to the Green Mountain Coffee Club. Every 2 months, we get 4 boxes of cups. We get free shipping. That comes out to one box every 2 weeks. This way, we all get the varieties we like.

I don't care too much about the waste, and I don't have to justify it.
