Keurig reason to shun the new VGF resort studios--a rant

I've been kind of fancying the new resort studios for a tryout until seeing a video tour that showed they only have a Keurig "coffee-ruiner." Because that's all those things do, IMO.

Yes, I know you can buy reusable K-cups and bring your own coffee to fill them. Dunno why anyone valuing good coffee would want to. Those things can't make an acceptable cup no matter what you try in them.

If we do stay in an RStu, I'll pop over to Gaspy's for half-decent Joffrey's before I'll drink Keurig ickiness.

As ever, YMMV. So, you big K-cup fans can book those RStus and leave the DStus with a decent Mr. Coffee for the rest of us.
:coffee: Gevalia rocks!

As with all things, YMMV. I tried Gevalia and hated it. Never again… you can have it all!

I own both single brew Keurig and drip coffee maker. If I’m going to spend the money I buy a deep rich Starbucks blend then use whichever meets my need at the moment.

There is no one rule for the “best” coffee. My dear departed brother and I argued all the time and finally agreed to disagree. For me the best coffee I ever made was in my old percolator… I’m definitely dating myself! LOL

Coffee is a very subjective topic. I tried one of those fancy new 3rd wave coffee shops, and it tasted like I was drinking orange juice mixed with coffee because they under roast the beans so much now to "let the natural fruit notes shine through". With that said, I think we can all agree that Keurig's don't brew coffee, they brew colored coffee-scented water from plastic cups filled with powder. Mr. Coffee ain't much better tho...gotta hit the 200+ degree mark for good coffee.

If making your own coffee in your room, a jug of spring water makes the difference. The water in Disney is just gross tasting, even tho they claim it is filtered.
The best coffee is the older stovetop drip kind. Next the plug in percolator. I usually just use my refillable mug at the counter service of my resort. Although have been making my own until the meal plan comes back (refillable mug).

Starbucks?? EEEEWWW! You can have all of theirs, and I get the Gevalia. Deal!?

True enough, there's no single rule. Whatever suits the drinker is the only rule that matters.

As long as it's perked on a campstove or firepit at around 10,000 ft. in the Rocky Mountains (gotta have that mountain air infused with dew-laden pine and cedar), yup, perked coffee gets my vote.

Or even boiled in a pan when really roughing it...

What's RStus and DDtus?

RStus = resort studios
DStus = deluxe studios

Best description of Keurigs EVER! :cool2:

Yeah, I agree Mr. Coffees aren't that good. Using those is simpler than trying to haul my faithful Krups auto-drip and espresso machine. I'm lazy.

Ah, I thought maybe RStus was "Resorts of unusual size"

:laughing: :laughing: Which could describe VGF since it's still pretty small compared with others.

So RStus = VGF2 and DStus are in the original VGF1 I assume.

Yup.

We use a Keurig at home so I don't mind seeing them show up at more WDW resorts. I prefer the ease of just popping a k-cup in and tossing it. I also like making iced coffee when it's warmer out and I find Keurig makes that pretty easy. But then again, I'm not one that savors a cup of coffee...it 's more a tool that allows me to function before 7am.

You know Gevalia makes K-cups, right?

Sure. It's the crappy job a Keurig does that I take issue with.

Lowlight nailed it above:

Percolator is definitely one of the best cups of coffee. I however enjoy my own French press every day. But I’m a studio person so that’s kinda out of the question without going through the process to boil water and grind beans without a kitchen before heading out to the parks.

I’ve had both K cup and Mr Coffee in the studios and definitely prefer Mr Coffee if I had to choose out of those. Both though, are horrible choices overall, but I’ll deal with it over the course of a week.

I too am disappointed we ended up with this and not the real coffee maker. I can say when I stay in July, I will ask for one to be brought to me along with the packet of coffee that are in the 1 and 2 bedrooms.

I also have flavored coffee in my OL that I drink when I am there and that requires a real coffee maker. But, I know many love these things.

Not that difficult to arrange, I don't think, even if you fly.

You can request an electric kettle from housekeeping and bring the rest, optimally storing it in an Owner's Locker from stay to stay if you'd rather not haul coffee-making equipment back and forth. (Unless, of course, you're as lazy as I tend to be at WDW and prefer not to do anything for self that someone else can do for you.)

We drive so take our own electric kettle, teapot, mugs, tea, coffee, etc. ETA: I know that makes me seem a liar, given the above paragraph. We just like fresh-brewed iced tea instead of the machine-dispensed swill you find in the food courts. As in: Will work (some, not much!) for palatable iced and hot tea with the occasional late evening decaf I needn't go out to get.

We saw a family unloading a bread machine, rice cooker and panini grill from their van as we were about to leave last trip. Now, that's some serious VGF homestyling!

Wait are people under the impression that Keurigs use some kind of instant powder that is dissolved inside the K-cup? It's a smaller form factor but it's the same exact coffee grounds that you'd put in a drip brewer.

Ugh this is my least favorite thing about DVC. People spend $60,000 for a lifetime of vacations in a $900 hotel room and then act like Cousin Eddie to avoid spending $12 on lunch.

Amen, sister.
