Keurig coffee maker:I'm done with it!

My mom keeps mentioning that we should get one.

We have our coffee "recipe" for our 12-cup coffee maker figured out - thank you very much.

Recipe for 1 morning (2 coffee cups of coffee) or 1 afternoon (1 cup each for DH and I) :

Fill to "4" on the side of the coffee maker with water. 1/8 cup of coffee grinds. Press "on".

I can count on one hand the amount of times we have actually made 12 cups of coffee in our machine.

I am also a member of the "Disgusted with my Keurig Club". Mine has been replaced twice in 2 years. It turns itself off after brewing a cup of coffee. It never fills up the cup, even if I use the largest "travel mug" setting.

I am ready to throw Keurig #3 away

Sad to hear a lot of people with recent Keurig problems. We are now headed into our 3rd year with ours, and have never even had to do the paperclip trick on it, nor have we ever had to descale it.

I'm wondering if their popularity caused them to start pumping them out at a rate that caused them to sacrifice a bit of quality. Sad that so many things end up that way.

Same here. About 3 years, never had to descale never had a problem. Well, I'll take that back. There was a point recently where it wasn't giving me the whole cup, so I ran and empty cycle with just water and it worked fine again. I'm sure it was probably clogged a little bit.

I don't drink enough coffee to warrant the need for a regular coffee maker. I also prefer flavored coffees. But more than anything, I love that I can make my sleepytime tea with it! One cup before bed and I'm golden. :)

Really? Mine broke 1 1/2 years after I bought it, I called the company, we did some troubleshooting, which didn't work, so they sent me a new one. That was 2 years ago, and I haven't had an issue.

Darn, I've been wanting one of those for several months, now. But, I don't want to spend that much and have problems with it. I'm one of those that I don't mind the price I pay for something if it's worth it, but I may throw one of those against the wall if I don't get coffee when I want it.

We have had our almost a year and have had no problems with it at all (we are on well water).

For the person who hates the k-cup things to make your own coffee/tea we use the Solofill ones you can get off amazon instead and it works great. Have never had problems using my own tea or ground coffee in it.

Wow, I'm surprised. I have had mine for 2 years and have never had a problem. We brew several times a day. My DH is a coffee and green tea drinker and I am a flavor tea and hot chocolate drinker so the thing is always being used throughout the day. My friend did have one problem with it where it was making a loud clunking noise and would automatically shut off so she unplugged it, took out the water reservoir and the bottom and put it all back together and it has worked since.

I just want to give a shout out to my Tassimo, I LOVE it! I've had it about a year now, went to BB&B with all intentions of buying a Keurig, but a lady was running a Tassimo demonstration and made me a cappucino and I fell in love! It foams milk to make other drinks and not just plain coffee, that's what sold me on it. It's made by Bosch and I've had NO issues with it at all. Yes, there are about a million more types of K cups than there are T discs, but we're not into all the flavored coffees anyway and really, really like the selection of T discs (BB&B or Amazon has the most variety). Anyway, just wanted to put that out there for anyone who wants a single serve coffee maker.

Sorry you apparently got a dud. I've had mine for 2 years, almost never clean it and use it every single day and it has never once not worked. :confused3

Same here. Ours works great! We bought MIL one and hers malfunctioned the last time we were there. It turns out that MIL had been using tap water in her Keurig instead of purified. :rolleyes1

Going on 4 years here, never descaled, never clogged. FWIW, the company is supposed to have excellent customer service. They often replace the whole unit even if it's out of warranty. The real money is in the K cups, so they want you to have a working machine!

We're on our second one. BBB took our first one back as well, mentioning, "Yeah, they had a lot of problems with this model". I have no doubt they return them to the company for full credit.

It is handy to have, so we got another with the store credit. But I like my Cuisinart Grind and Brew as well.

OP, I feel your frustration! I started a thread on this topic last year as my Keurig stopped working after turning one year old. In post #11 of the thread, someone posted a link to a youtube video that shows a simple fix which worked for my Keurig - no problems since.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

I'm on machine number four. The longest a brewer has lasted for me is 11 months. Keurig does have excellent customer service and they have replaced the machine every time. If it wasn't for that, I would no longer own one.

It seems to me they could turn out a more consistent product. Too many people get dud machines.

this is the main reason why I haven't bought one for my kitchen. I keep hearing bad stories about it working fine one day, then the next it just stops. I don't do mornings without coffee, so I'm kinda scared to go there.

I never tried a Tassimo, but I like the sound of it. Esp. how it foams milk. Is it similar to an espresso maker or does it foam milk the same time it makes the coffee/espresso?

I used to like K cups, but I'm not a fan of Green Mountain (only blend they offer at work.) That's why a few co-workers and I invested in a French Press. We could technically bring in our own K cups, but then we would still have to pay 25 cents everytime we brew a cup. :headache:

Someone please explain to me what I'm missing out on with the whole Keurig thing!

Well, as long as you get a good model....

I love the idea of having the little K-cups...It's like collection nail polish to me:lmao:.....but I'm weird like that.

I only drink one or two cups a day, so I don't end up wasting as much.

I like the variety you can have with out buying 15 different bags of coffee...

Um....other then that I just like things like this in general...:confused3

Nope...no hot chocolate...And I descale it often since the water around here is pretty hard....I hear a lot of people have issues with this model.....DO NOT ask me which one, I'll have to look it up.;)

We bought our first one after christmas 2 years ago. It was one of the most popular models (-they were the first ones with the quiet brew and I think there were several model numbers and names) and they had sold like hotcakes for the holidays. I was so excited to take it home and try it. I got it all out of the box and plugged it in and pushed the on switch and nothing happened.:headache: I called the company and they sent me a new one. The new one worked for a few days and then started doing the same things listed here. Won't turn on, turns itself off, doesn't brew at all, or brews only a small amount.

I did some internet research at that time and found out that there was a HUGE defect with this model. Keurig was up to their ears in returns. I called them again and was assured that they had fixed the problem and I would be sent a new one. Got the 3rd one and it worked great for a few weeks and then started having the same problems. However it wasn't as bad as the others and we went ahead and used it for about a year. The entire time I kept checking reviews on the other models. After about a year it said it needed to be descaled. I followed all instructions on how to do that and actually did it twice, but the descale warning wouldn't go away and it was acting worse and worse-- not brewing and shutting off.

But Dh and I LOVE this machine! We have totally different tastes in coffee-- I like mine pretty weak and he wants a spoon to stand up in his. I also love the flavors so it was just the best option for us. Since all the reveiws of the Platinum model had been positive we took a chance with it and have now had it over a year and love it! It gets used several times a day and we haven't had any problems with it. My inlaws also got one of the very first machines they made which was smaller than the later ones and made more noise and have had it for over 3 years with no problems.

Interestingly that since that defective model they were bought out by Green Mountain and I have not heard of many complaints or problems since then (I haven't researched them in a while though). So if you really love the concept of it and yours is one of these models from the defective design then you may want to try a different model now. Believe me I was in the this company stinks and I will never buy anything from them again camp. Just do your research (Uncle Google is great!) to be sure it isn't having an overwhelming amount of problems. You will always find some negative reviews for anything and with mechanical things there may be some that don't work right. But it was the sheer volume of complaints over many different forums and review sites that convinced me that the first model we had was just a piece of junk from the time it was designed.

When you make a latte or cappucino you use 2 discs, a milk disk then the coffee disc. You just put the milk disc in the same way, each disc has a bar code that the Tassimo senses and knows exactly what it is and what to do. After the milk disc has run through, pop in the coffee disc and voila!

DH called them because they both broke about 6 weeks apart. I have a big one at home and a mini in my office.

They replaced both and even sent complementary coffee even though they were both outside thee warranty period. They'd rather send you a new pot so you will continue to buy their expensive coffee.

DH's friend has done this 3 separate times and they send him a new one each time.
