This may sound like a daft question...

We have a 1 bedroom at SSR and I wondered if they provide a kettle? From what I can see there is often a coffee machine in the apartments, but I don't drink coffee like DBF and my Father do!! I neeeeed a cup of tea in the morning - do I need to bring a travel kettle with me?

TIA :goodvibes

I'm sure someone will chime in here that knows for sure but I'm about 95% sure I remember seeing this exact question not too long ago and the answer was, yes; there is a tea kettle in the kitchen in the one and two BRs.

According to the Member's website there is a tea kettle in the 1 and 2 bedroom DVC villas. Shame the studios don't have one as well :(

The studio's can't use one since they dont have a stove to heat it on. You can always run the coffee maker wihtout any coffee in it and just use the hot water for tea.

Ah! That would explain it but there could be a little electric one. Unfortunately using the coffee maker is not an option as the water doesn't boil, need boiling water for tea, and it also doesn't taste right :(

At least we have our travel kettle to take, even though it takes up a bit of space in the luggage.

Thanks Claire. I think it was one of your posts that I remember reading the answer to this a couple of weeks ago. :)

If there isn't a kettle, which I think there is, you could always use just a regular pot.

Can't you also heat water in the microwave in a coffee cup until it boils?

well in a pinch I have, but IMO, it's not quite the same.:sad2:

:confused3 How is boiling water from a teapot different from boiling water in a cup? How funny! I always thought boiling water was boiling water. At 47 years old I learn something every day! I've been doing it wrong!:goodvibes I pitched my teapot years ago! Now I will have to add a teapot to my packing list!

I was actually at the front desk at BWV making dining reservations a month ago. Someone requested a kettle in their 1 bedroom. The manager thought it was provided, called housekeeping and found out it wasn't on the list. She said it should be and is there something they could do since the guest clearly wanted a kettle in their room and she said they've had them in the past.

I didn't stay around to find out how this played out but it does lead me to believe that maybe they're not replacing the kettles in the rooms when they break or walk from theft or whatever and letting them phase themselves out.

There is a big difference in an electric tea kettle and the ones most of us in the US are familiar with. We fill it with water and put it on the burner until it whistles. The electric tea kettle is more like a Mr Coffee that it is self contained to heat up water.

We're tea drinkers too--lived in England for 15 years and my wife's British. Kettle's used to be in the kitchens but now I think you have to ask. I'd bring my own tea if I were you and maybe some kind of water filter.

You can request an electric tea pot in both the studio and 1/2 BRs I always do and have never had a problem there is also a regular tea pot in the 1/2 BRs.
For the best results I use bottle water. As you may guess we are big tea drinkers.

hey I don't get how boiling water in a kettle is different than using any pot in the kitchen!!!

The cup came into the equation when mention of boiling in the microwave was said. I agree an electric kettle and hob kettle boil in a similar way but an open pan is not as good as the water cannot properly boil fast enough when it reaches its peak.

As it's only for me (dad and aaron drink coffee while we're away) I may get one of those small mini travel kettles just to make sure!! Thanks for all the info though :goodvibes

We have always had a kettle in the one and two bedrooms. Except this last Oct. when we had to call housekeeping and ask for one. I wonder if they aren't leaving them in the rooms any more.

I haven't seen one recently.
