Of all the Alaska ports, Ketchikan seems to have the fewest options for excursions available. Wondering if it's worth booking a private tour for my group of 13 (very old and very young guests included) or whether you would recommend any Disney shore excursions in Ketchikan.

Would also to try the seafood while in Alaska (salmon, crab, etc.), but shore excursions seem to offer soup, sandwiches, salads, BBQ chicken, baked goods. Any restaurants you would recommend if we have the time to dine while in port?

I did two tours there a private seaplane tour ( you will need a few) we went to the misty fjords it was fantastic, and we booked direct the duck tours which was fun and interesting.

Fish, seafood crab us on the ship at lunchtime and dinner but if you go along the wonders pier there are restaurants just there to your right on the way to the bridge where the salmon swim.

The Crab boat "Deadliest Catch" tour may appeal to a broad range of ages.

For seafood-- the bleu cheese crusted halibut at Annabelle's in Ketchikan is delicious!

We did the Wilderness Lodge and Crab Feast thru Disney. It is a fairly simple excursion for both young and old. You take a bus ride to the other end of Ketchikan where the driver tells you about the city. Then you take a boat ride - they had a fairly large one about 100 folks and a smaller one about 20 folks. The lady and the captain on the boat tell you about the coasts and they go to a predetermined location where they have one of the bigger kids pull up a crab trap and let any who want hold a crab. Then they go back to the small boat dock and lodge where they have an all you can eat crab dinner. After that you take the bus back to the ship dock. There are 79 steps from the bus parking area to the small boat dock. However, they also have a small shuttle van that will take any one who would like to a closer spot on the same level as the small boat dock.

We did this same one, albeit with NCL, and greatly enjoyed it.
