I want to fish on our Alaskan Cruise next year. My research says Ketchican is the best port to do this. We'll be there June 2nd.

I looked at the option Disney provides: http://www.knudsoncove.com/cruise-charters/
From what I can tell (based on reading the the reviews on Trip Advisor) it looks like a group of various charter boats that are used. Group size does not matter.

I have a dozen other independent charters to do some research on. So far I'm seeing there is a four person minimum and, alas, there are only three of us in our group. If I go with one of these I may reach out to our Facebook page to see if anyone else is interested.

Questions:
Has anyone here had experience with salmon fishing on their cruise?
Should we go with Disney or book separately?
Was there a limit on the number of fish you could catch?
What did you pay for processing? Smoked? Cut & wrapped?

We used GoFish Ketchikan last year. We had a 4 hour charter out of Knudsen bay. The captain arranged for a cab to pick us up by the port and drive us in. The boat was ready to go when we got there. There were 6 of us, including a 3yo, and the captain was very willing to work with us. I would imagine that he will let you go with just a group of three, you may just have to pay the fourth person. There was a limit on what you could catch, although I don't remember what it was. We did catch right at the limit and when we got back to Knudsen Cove, they took our picture, took the fish away, prepared them and mailed them home for us. We have been eating fresh salmon from Alaska for the last year! It was an absolutely amazing experience and I would highly recommend it!

My husband and son just had an amazing time salmon fishing with:

They went just last week and had a perfect experience. My husband is a reasonably experienced fisherman (on the hobby level), and has done a variety of fishing excursions. He loved Captain Jim and would highly recommend him. They did a private 6 hour excursion to celebrate our son's 10th birthday, so it was just my husband and son, Captain Jim, and Cpt. Jim's 9 year old boy. Captain Jim and his son were waiting at the dock, even though the ship pulled in a bit early, and made everything easy. Even snacks on the boat, much to my son's delight!

They had a great fishing day, too . . . our son caught a 18 pound king salmon, and my husband caught several halibut as well. The fish arrived yesterday. (Not sure what it cost to have it shipped, but it was cut into manageable filets of 1-2 pounds each.)

We booked through Disney and had a fantastic trip. Our captain was knowledgable, friendly and entertaining. We needed up catching five 10 - 15 pound salmon that we had processed and shipped back home to us. I don't remember the processing cost but it was WAY more than just buying something from our local fish monger back home. It was a great experience and we will do this again when we eventually sail back to Alaska.

This being said we spoke with some other people on our sailing that booked from a group at the port (I don't remember the name). They paid a bit less then us and while they had a full boat between everyone they caught over 40 fish.
