We have been joking at Bush/Cheney '04 for months about telling our non-supporters to be sure to vote November 3rd. I guess some have listened.

The election is November 2nd

I'm sure that was just a typo, but I don't want people of any party misinformed as to when the election is.

Here's Shortbun's response to me in a PM. She admits she put Nov. 3rd in on purpose.

Let me state again that I want EVERYONE to vote on November 2nd - not just my side. I also would never choose to hang an opponent's picture in the way she mentioned. My position is all about who I am FOR not who I am against. I respect the right of others not to agree with me. I have learned that there are many who do not want to offer me the same respect in return.

Arminnie-you have misquoted me in my original post. I included
a winking eyed smiley face directly after the date of November
3rd, indicating my joke. I think you know that as does anyone
else who read my post. To intentionally mislead the posters
of the DIS by making it seem like I was trying to get these well
informed folks to vote on the wrong date-everyone who politically posts knows full well when the election is-is ludicrous.
I admit-
I was baiting you with the description of the picture on my mantle
and it worked. So-you probably feel some pleasure in sharing
a PM which is something I would NEVER do here on this board.
It's pretty much a no-no after all.

So be it. I would never joke about misleading folks behind their
backs as you and your fellow Bushies have done-instead, I do
it good naturedly and up front. Your fake innocence is not lost on
me, nor is it lost on anyone else. Your worship of George Bush
alarms and offends me. IMHO, it's borderline sacrilege.
Kerry on!:sunny:

I know, I know- I just couldn't let this one get away. I wasn't
even aware of it until someone let me know. Thanks "someone!"

Shortbun,

While I do agree with you that getting out and actively suporting candidates, issues, etc. that you believe in, I think posting information, expressing opinons, and standing up for what you believe in on a public forum on the DIS is, in it's own way, just as important.

For years right-wing idealougues like Rush Linthead have had pretty much an open field to spread misinformation and unfairly attack and slander anyone they didn't agree with. . . and shout down and bully anyone who tried to disagree or present a different view.

So for far too long they went unchallenged, and while I understand people wanting to avoid arguments and opening themselves up to personal attacks, if people with different opinons don't take a stand and speak up, then people who aren't as informed or as interested start assuming the lies, slander, and even legitimate opinons are facts.

If people here didn't take the time to challenge crap like the "Swift boat Vet's" lies and show they were nothing more then an arm of the Freepers, a lot of people would have just accepted what they said as fact.

While moderates, liberals and progressives have been taking the high-road, the Linthead clones have controlled the political dialouge in this country and now The GOP is in control of every majpr branch of the federal government.

And while expressing one's opinions in a civil manner is something to be admired, if the people holding opposing opinons finally have enough and hit back, I'd say it's about damn time. :)

I had missed that part of her post as well. I guess some people have no limits.

If she's that impressed with your pm to her, she should read some of the stuff I've been getting from the righteous right.
But she won't because they are pm's and I don't make them public on this forum. That's lower than low.

Your fake innocence is not lost on
me, nor is it lost on anyone else.

Rest assured, it is not.

Btw....I have a pic of bush on my dart board in the game room. For some unknown reason the RNC sent me a letter begging for money and I guess they thought an 8x10 glossy of bush would entice me to fork over some cash.

I'm hoping they send another one soon, this one is just about worn out.:teeth:

Get over it, he's the President, not God.

---I CANNOT believe you posted this!--I don't think God would be impressed with your hatred of anybody.

>"Many are saying they disagree with Bushes policies. In all of this, I still have never heard or read what EXACTLY John Kerry can do better? Why are you voting for Kerrry (or are you just voting against Bush and do not care who beats him)? I don't want to hear what Bush did wrong, I want to here how Kerry can improve my life and what it will cost me (because I know he is going to raise my taxes)"
--totally agree--

I don't want to fight with anyone but some people on here are just plain mean and I couldn't stand it anymore.

I've never seen anyone on the right refer to GWB as God except for maybe you ( and I KNOW you're WAY WAY over on the left).

So which is it?

God or Hilter?

Surely one person can't be both.

Oh please! My guess is that President Clinton's face has graced more than 1 dartboard.

Why, after all the years of Clinton bashing should you expect that because a Republican is in office that we should suddenly be not just respectful, but practically worship the man?

I think I'll leave God's judgements up to God and not you, but somehow I doubt I'm going to burn for eternity in the fiery pits of hell because I threw a dart at a picture of George W. Bush.

You KNOW no such thing. I never said anyone refered to him as God by name, but there's plenty who act as though speaking out against him is a mortal sin. Note the post just above yours for an example....

So which is it?God or Hilter?

I've never referred to anyone as being like Hitler and I certainly don't believe bush is a god. I just think he's one lousy excuse for a President.

Sorry your sensibilities were offended 720L. . . but if you hadn 't picked-out part of one post by Peachgirl while ignoring similar shots posted against her, then your comment might have carried a little more weight with me. . .

Carla,

I followed the link you referred to. . . and I'm not sure what your talking about?

Referring to Bush as "Shrub" is the worst thing I see in that thread. . A negative nick-name is your idea of "venom"? How many complaints have you sent in when the term "Slick Willy" was used to describe Clinton?

I certainly respect the fact that you feel the office of the Presidency is so sacred and that it is important to you to always refer to the person in office in a reverent way, but this is America and just because you feel someway doesn't mean everyone else is required to do the same.

As far as I'm concerned I'm not obligated to show reverence to any politician, especially one that drops cluster bombs on Iraqi children.

I don't know either of you so I won't judge your motives . . but in general let me say that one tactic I've noticed from pro-Bush people is to attack and attack and then cry foul when someone responds in a similar fashion.

There's plenty of Kerry bashing around here. . when one of you, or anyone else who's complaining here about the "meaness" aimed at Bush, expresses similar sentiment about similar types of comments aimed at Kerry or Kerry supporters, then let me know and I'll take your "outrage" a little more seriously.

Good night now. . . :)

---------Didn't mean to ignore the posts against her, Peachgirls post just jumped out at me as going a little too far. I don't think I've read something like that about Kerry, but since I am a President Bush supporter they may not have jumped out at me like that one did. I have read negative things about Kerry, but written in a respectful way. I don't think anybody should be talked about like that.

------------I don't expect you to worship The President of the United States, but as an American show a little respect. I did not care for President Clinton, but didn't call him nicknames or throw darts at him. And like I told WillyJ, I don't think anybody (even Kerry) should be talked about like that. I have been reading these political posts for quite a while, and just couldn't stand not saying something, since nobody else holds ANYTHING back.

This is what I found on snopes:

Claim: A 'Google bombing' effort has tied the phrase 'miserable failure' to President Bush's biography in the Google search engine.

Status: True.

Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2003]

Origins: A
popular maxim tells us that "anything man can do, man can undo." A corollary to that concept might be "anything man can do, others can exploit for fun and profit."

Ever since search engines first appeared on the World Wide Web, netizens have been finding ways to tie searches on particular words or phrases to web sites of their choosing, generally out of a profit motive. (Better results bring more traffic to a site, increasing advertising revenue and/or sales.) Search engine companies, meanwhile, have been busily at work fine-tuning their algorithms to eliminate rank-enhancing tricks and ensure their results more accurately reflect the relevance and popularity of indexed web sites.

The "fun" factor has come into play, too, as some people have manipulated search engine results either for the sheer humor of it or to make political statements — for example, for several months now a spoof 404 page (i.e., a "page not found" error page) has been the top-ranked page in Google when users search on the phrase "weapons of mass destruction." And now, since early December 2003, the top site returned by a Google search on the phrase "miserable failure" has been the biography of President George W. Bush from the White House web site.

How did this come about, especially since the phrase "miserable failure" appears nowhere in the President's biography? It was the result of a "Google bombing" project organized by George Johnston back at the end of October 2003, in which he used his blog to urge others to include links connecting the phrase "miserable failure" (a term used prominently by Democratic hopeful Dick Gephardt) with the President's biography in their own web sites and blogs:

Let's get everyone to link to http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html with the words "Miserable Failure." Our goal is to make Shrubya the top google pick.

It's fun, it's easy just Miserable Failure in your favorite web page will look like Miserable Failure

According to Mr. Johnston's progress report, by the last week of November 2003 the Bush biography was the #2 result on Google for "miserable failure," and — after more and more netizens implemented the same link on their sites and urged others to do the same — it reached the top spot soon afterward. (A #1 ranking at Google brings the added bonus of returning the targeted site when users select the search engine's "I'm Feeling Lucky" button.)

According to the New York Times, Google hasn't taken umbrage at the prank and (presumably) isn't taking steps to counteract it:

Craig Silverstein, Google's director for technology, says the company sees nothing wrong with the public using its search engine this way. No user is hurt, he said, because there is no clearly legitimate site for "miserable failure" being pushed aside.

Moreover, he said, Google's results were taking stock of the range of opinions that are expressed online. "We just reflect the opinion on the Web,'' he said, "for better or worse."

Tell me something new:rolleyes:

Everybody knows that it was a Google-Bombing. Nevertheless it a) fits and b) is funny and c) Jimmy Carter pops up second after Bush, which is enough proof that conservatives used the same technique - just not as efficiently ;)
