Kerry for the middle class?

All I can say is that everyone that is out there griping about tax cuts should send BACK the nice check that GWB sent us! I kept mine! How about you? ::yes::

Fine I'll send my lousy $300 check back that was suppose to help propel me into financial freedom.

But don't belittle those of us that might actually agree with some of these points because they DO affect us.

I didn't see anyone belittling you.

My answer to your point is that I would prefer to have tax cuts that benefit everyone that pays income tax, rather than cuts that only benefit some people in an attempt to redistribute income from the top brackets down to the lower brackets.

What happened to the rest of your tax cut? Surely you had more than $6000 in taxable income?

And if you did have more than that amount of income, then please take a look at the 2000 and 2003 tax tables before you say "I only got a $300 tax cut - there was no more!"

Well that would be a foolish financial decision, now wouldn't it?

$40,000: 2000 tax bill: $6004 2003 tax bill: $5304 11.6% cut
$50,000: 2000 tax bill: $8307 2003 tax bill: $6804 18% cut
$60,000: 2000 tax bill: $11,107 2003 tax bill: $8626 22% cut
$70,000: 2000 tax bill: $13,907 2003 tax bill: $11126 25% cut

Guess what happens when you go above $100,000? Based on claims made by Kerry and his proponents, you would expect that the percentage of taxes cut would increase, correct? You would be wrong.

$100,000: 2000 tax bill: $22,293 2003 tax bill: $18,614 16% cut
$200,000: 2000 tax bill: $55,048 2003 tax bill: $47,445 13.8% cut
$500,000: 2000 tax bill: 170,667 2003 tax bill: $150,206 11.6% cu

Here is what I see for someone that earns $70K per year they lose 15.89% of their income to taxes.
Someone earning $100,000 loses 18.64% of their income to taxes.
The person earning $100,000 makes a little more then 42% more a year then the other guy but only pays 2.75% more in taxes.

Yes I did - however the poster I was answering said to send back the tax check. I only received one check for $300.00

Good for you. However in MHO the post was very belittling.

This plan is better than GW's "spend now, let someone else pay later- that is anyone but my super rich corporate friends" plan.

The top 20% of wage earners already pay 70% of the entire tax burden. How much more should they be expected to pay?

Buck naked- I had a question for you about your political views. If that is okay?:)

Do you feel that politics influences other areas in life like social and occupational issues? If so, do your political views conflict with nude, dancing, sunbathing and the other "nude" thing that you had in your profile?

I am just curious because I know some other "nude" advocates that are exceedingly liberal. Thanks!:sunny:

And I know some that are exceedingly conservative. Not sure the relevance.

You say that as if it were a bad thing.

All the posts are becoming basically just more of the same information packaged differently each time. Kerry supporters are out posting what their candidate is going to do and fix. Bush supporters are defending their candidates desicions. We all know who were voting for the rest is just fun reading. If this board becomes a personal attack on myself then I'll stop posting. If its just attacks from both political sides I'll take it for what it's worth. I won't be getting myself all upset on who has a stronger political point. I don't care. This board has not made me question who I'm voting for. So if you feel strong about your candidate and certain posts bother you don't respond. The opening remarks of this posts were made in light hearted humor. Not to provoke fights. Nov.2nd is fast approaching. Then what?

In this scenario, what do you think would be fair?

I thought the same thing.

How much is enough, septbride2002? How much of other's people's money do you want to be given to the people that pay nothing for all of the services they receive? Would you prefer the pre-1962 top marginal bracket of 90%? So that people are working for 10 cents on the dollar at the top bracket?

Just wondering how much is enough?

Well, if Bush wins, we'll hear the same people say that he "stole" the election as we had say it last time.

If Kerry wins, all the people that used to say "He won, get over it" will be saying, "Kerry stole the election"

More of the same, ho hum. :D

I really don't know. And I wasn't posting that remark in favor of either Kerry or Bush just saying that this is what I noticed. I have no grand plan to fix everything. I just found it amazing that a person who makes almost 50% more in income then the other guy is charged such a smaller amount of difference in taxes. However I'm actually in the higher tax bracket anyway so I don't really care. That is what I find wrong with these political threads - you are either for everything or against everything. Some of us are actually in the middle and are just trying to make the right choice for the issues we feel are important.

That's because you didn't do the calculation correctly - you used 2.75% when you should have said 2.75 percentage points. The family earning $100,000 is actually paying 67% more in taxes than the family earning $70,000.

$18,614 - $11,126 = $7,488

$7,488/$11,126 = 67.3%

So, the family earns 42% more but pays 67% more in taxes. Seem fair to you?

Well I made my decision based on what I think is important as well. But, since this is a thread about taxes, I just thought I would ask your opinion on what a fair percentage would be. Personally, I favor a flat tax, but I doubt we'll ever see that.

Some people will always make more than other people. We have to determine what a "fair share" and to me, and income tax that take nearly 40% of a person's income is immoral, legal theft, if you will. I'm just discussing, I'm not into personal attacks. :D

That's ok, Denise. It was probably wrong of me to be entertained but I was secretly enjoying it ;)

If everyone that was all up in arms about the GWB tax plan and the current deficit sent back their checks, even if they were a lousy $300 (I'd be pretty happy to see $100!!!!!) imagine the difference it would make! But, people prefer to keep the money and then complain about the hole we're in. It's kind of ironic.

AHA! You;re gonna be in trouble for saying nice things about the enemy. :) I knew you couldn't be bad though, you;re from NH, which is where I grew up.

I really support John Kerry for President and felt compelled to respond the best that I could even if no one cares to "listen".

I'm listening, I just do not agree. ;)
