WOW, people... this thread has now crossed WAY over the line from a public interest story into religion. Which is not supposed to be allowed here.

I will admit that I am closer to 'conservative christian' than not, but the comments here, yes, including those by some posters with a pro christian/religious viewpoint, are becoming inappropriate.

PS: I don't care whether one is a christian, muslim, athiest, heathen, brown, yellow, black, white... Pink and purple polka dotted.

I think we should all be very concerned if there is the possibility that any individual person might be able to use public office to deny others their civil rights.

You have no idea if she is a hypocrite as you don't know what changed or didn't change in her life.

The Christian bible forbids divorce. She has issued marriage licenses to divorced couples. Fact 1 and fact 2 are anathema to each other. That really is all.

No, go ahead, you already started. I think this veers more into law than politics anyways. The policies in sanctuary cities don't violate anyones rights. They're not keeping a whole group of people from participating in life.

Kathryn Steinle had her rights violated when she was murdered by a man with multiple felonies who was an illegal alien, and deported multiple times, but just came right back over the border. It was requested that the sheriff's office notify ICE if and when he was released, but they refused to do so, and released him back into the public.
To your apples and oranges comparison, either you stand on the principle of laws being enforced, or not. Which is it?

A doctor is not under court order to perform abortions. There is no law compelling a doctor tonperfor abortions.
As for just shutting down the office, that was tried in the 1960s when gov Wallace attempted to shut all public schools rather than integrate them as the ussc ordered. President Johnson ordered the national guard to open the schools. The govt and govt officials cannot deny people their civil rights because of personal beliefs.

By her denying to issue ANY licences, I don't feel she's "selectively enforcing" anything. She is wrong, and should have resigned as soon as she decided she couldn't fulfill her duties. But she is not discriminating against gays, divorcees, adulterers, or anyone. She's treating them all the same and not handing out marriage licenses.

She has chosen to stop issuing all licenses over a selective issue. The scope of her fit of pique is not relevant to the fact that she is selectively choosing one issue, out of many that are disallowed within the Christian bible, to enforce by refusing to do the job she swore an oath to do.

As far as I'm aware, the guy who killed her wasn't an agent of the government.

Correct, but the vast majority of divorces of convenience are not allowed. And since adultery is one reason divorce would be allowed, because of the gravity of that "sin," if any marriage licenses were issued to adulterers, it's also a "sin" that she did not prohibit.

It forbids divorce yes, but not entirely. There is more to it than that.

As mentioned, she decided to stop issuing ALL marriage licenses. Once that word got out, homosexual couples traveled to Rowan County to apply for a license.

In other words, couples who in all likelihood were from far outside Kentucky suddenly decided the only place on earth to for them to join their hearts was a backwater area of that state and in all likelihood have no intention whatsoever of staying there.

Glad to see how some people focus their weddings on being political statements and bring along lawyers as part of the merry retinue.
