Kennedy Space Center?

You might want to check out the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) website. It might help you get a sense of the types of things you can do during a visit.

There are certainly lots of museum-type exhibits. So, you will do some reading and/or watching videos to help understand the artifacts you will see. But, a lot of those artifacts are massive. A museum that might have paintings or small items. At KSC you'll see 100-foot tall rockets and an actual Space Shuttle. The sheer size of things is pretty impressive.

The daily admission fee also includes Imax films and a bus tour the shows off both space facilities and the natural wildlife refuge that surrounds KSC.

Personally, I think the Atlantis building is the highlight of any visit. As you enter the building, you go through a series of Disney-quality pre-shows before you arrive at the area where the Space Shuttle is displayed. It's very dramatic. Then, you head downstairs to experience the Shuttle Launch Experience, which is a simulator.

That said, if you have no interest in space, science, or technology, it's probably not worth the expense.

The Behind The Scenes Tour was also amazing – especially going inside the Vehicle Assembly Building – but riding a bus to a big building (no matter how incredible its engineering and history are) may not play to someone who is 4.

Agreed and during our tour, we were able to walk underneath one of the shuttle launch pads (not sure if that is still there). Seeing the vast amount of charred material from the heat of the engines was remarkable.

Shuttle Launch Experience was excellent; I think that would have the kids flying high <pun intended>.
