I've heard often somewhere here on the Disboards that one can write to their senator or congressman/woman to request free tix to KSC. Can anyone give me more details or feedback about their experience? How long did it actually take?

Thanks!:goodvibes

I did that recently. Just go to the website of your local house representative or senator and fill out the online "contact us" form. All you need to do is let them know how many tickets you need and what day you want them for.

One of my congresswoman's (Janice Hahn) staffers replied within 48 hours and notified me that they forwarded my request to NASA. Got confirmation for 4 tickets after about a week.

I did this, I believe the large thread about it will come up if you do a search for Kennedy Space Center. The reader's digest version is this: every state is different, seems like every request gets different responses, and your best chances are if you ask a good 6 months in advance. I went to my congressman's website and on a form for requesting things such as going to the White House I inquired about the Kennedy Space Center tickets. I heard back within a week and they were able to get me 4 tickets for the date I requested. The thread on here is long but it has a lot of tips as what to ask for, names of the Kennedy Space Center contacts, etc. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Actually we're going to Houston in late June and would like to visit the Johnson Space Center. I figured it's all part of NASA so I could still write to someone. I just didn't know who the letter should go to. I better get moving!!

Our state does not do this and seemed to think I had two heads for even asking.

Just sent a request to our local rep ~ can't hurt to ask! :thumbsup2

I don't think this will work for Space Center Houston, but it might be worth a try. Several years ago, the tourist part of Johnson Space Center was turned over to an outside company to run. Discount coupons are usually available at area McDonalds in the summer.

The Kennedy Space Center tickets are a benefit offered to EVERY congressperson, regardless of the state they represent - if you call the office of your representative or senator and the person you speak to isn't familiar with the program, ask for the name of the person who handles this sort of request in the WASHINGTON office - often, your local office people aren't as savvy about the perks you can request as the Washington insiders are.

There are a limited number of tickets, and the earlier in the year you make the request, the better, even if you're not going until later in the year.

The KSC Visitor Complex is also run by an outside vendor.

When I see these threads about the "free" tickets I wonder if they are really free or if we are all paying for them anyway (taxes).

You can get half price tickets for Johnson if you buy them on their website.

My experience was that the Congressman's representative took all my information and then we never ended up with the tickets. We even requested them more than 5 months out. It was disappointing.

Thanks! I think we'll go this route. It's only $11 for adults, 9-something for ds11 but only until May 31. It's not worth the waiting with stress of uncertainty.

Thanks for your input everyone!! :goodvibes

Not sure what you mean by "state", but everyone needs to talk to their local U.S. House Representative (there's 1 for every district/multiple districts in most of the 50 states), to take advantage of touring certain U.S. facilities...

Your representative has 2 offices --one in your local area, and another in Washington, D.C.

I'm not sure where in NC you live -- but I'm in Wake County and my Congressman is David Price. I sent a request to his office, via his website (Tour Request Form) inquiring whether or not this is something that they can accommodate. I received a reply in about two days letting me know that they can get me the 4 tickets I will need. I was told that I will need to email them (again fill out the tour request form) with about 6 months advance notice. Our trip is not until next spring.
