Keith Olbermann

I'm glad you are finally starting to understand it. I always wanted to be a pro baseball player when I grew up, too. Sometimes you don't get your way, it happens.

Did someone pass a law saying you couldn't play pro ball? :confused3

If saying that mutiple marriages is a non sequitar to a discussion of gay marrige, wouldn't divorce also be a non sequitar?

Give it time and someone will bring up adults marrying children, the ever famous Marry-your-sheep post. We're just trying to bring the ridiculousness into a concept that some don't realize is absolutely pathetic.

Do you favor doing away with divorce?

If someone gets enough signatures to put it on a ballot then it passes, so be it. Someone else will go judge shopping to put a stay on it then others will try to get it overturned. I don't think the process was changed in any way just to attack gay marriage. Was it?

They didn't have to because I accept the fact that I don't have what it takes. If I got thousands of fellow no-talent athletes to try and force MLB to put us on teams just because we think that's the fair thing to do then they probably would pass a law to stop us.

So to continue with your analogy and take it the next level, you couldn't hack it as a ball player, the MLB wouldn't have anything to do with you, so you think the gays shouldn't marry.

Got it.

Well I don't have to accept that fact, because I do have what it takes. Long term committed relationship here. Going on 15 years! As apposed to ummm lets see, Rush, Ronnie, Newt or McCain...

How many X-wives do they have between them?:confused3

It doesn't matter what you think, all you can do is vote. The proposition was lawfully put on the ballot, lawfully voted on and lawfully passed. There wasn't any violence or intimidation or fraud, it was a vote and you lost. Get over it and work on trying again. That's all you can do.

If that's what makes you sleep better at night then that analogy will do.

18 years here.

Yet, 52% of tradional heterosexual marriages end in divorce before reaching their 15th anniversary.

Just an observation, but it could have been because the expected outcome in what is one of the most liberal states in the country, was for it to be defeated. It polled as going down until the vote. I think it is more the shock factor than anything.

As another aside, I personally know a number of people that voted for it simply in reaction to the CA supreme court over rulling the law that had passed back in 2000.

The reason it is concidered a states rights issue, is Marriage is not a constitutional right, it simply isn't in there.

And many considered segregation the states' right until the Supreme Court decided it was an equal protection 'n access issue under the US Constitution.

It actually does, because it's a further illustration of how truly ridiculous the general arguments are from those that oppose same sex marriage/civil unions.

I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. I believe that a civil union is between any two (just two) adults. All the rights associated with marriage should be bestowed upon civil unions. So yes, I'm pretty much just stuck on a word. I'm pretty sure I've stated this many times over the years.

I think many Christians are "stuck" on a word. I believe marriage should be left to the church. I also believe in civil unions.... with rights being the same as a marriage. I do not believe "being gay" is a choice. I think many folks would be surprised how many Christians feel this way. The "in your fact" tactics, by the left, are a huge turnoff. This hurts the cause instead of helping it.

I am also tired of the hate and jabs at Christians. As another poster pointed out, hispanics and blacks were the ones who tipped the scale in Cali. I think the term "relgious right" is usually reserved for white Christians. I know gays are hurt, angered and saddened at these developements....and I'm sorry. I truly am.

Me thinks the murder rate would increase. :lmao:

What is the divorce rate of married (or civilly unioned) homosexuals? I know the sampling is small since its legal in so few states but do you have any stats on that?

It is interestin' how one of the major opponents to equal marriage (The Mormon Church) in our recent history apologized to blacks for their exemption of them in their church. I look to see them issue a similar apology to gays and lesbians maybe in another hundred years. :lmao:

Not a clue. There's not enough data for it be a significant number anyway. Get back to me when it's all legal and I'm sure it will show 52% as well.

I agree. I think folks are stuck on the civil union vs. marriage thing. But then that moves into the whole idea of separate but equal. The gay community wants equal legal recognition of their civil union, nothing more. I don't know of any that are demanding to get married in a church that otherwise wouldnt' allow it.

As for who voted for it, whether black, white or hispanic, I personally don't care what they're background is. Homophobia is color blind.

And I had to address your one comment that I highlighted and say in response. No, being gay isn't a choice, but being FABULOUS is. :rotfl:
