Keith Olbermann

You are comparing gay rights to drug users?

Taking away someone rights by simple majority is ludicrous. By that reasoning we could just vote out the republican party. Make it illegal. Why not, most of us are democrats.

Now that is an idea.... or at least an example that some people may be able to relate to. :thumbsup2

As much as people want to talk about people's opinion and the majority rules, people (even if it is a "majority") should not have the right to make laws that apply to some people and not to other people.

Yeah, that darm Democracy we live in just keeps getting in the way... Even in California, a very liberal state, it was an overwhelming margin of victory..

No, the law states that NOBODY is allowed to have a same sex marriage, not sure what law you are reading..

And how is that any different from the older laws that said nobody can have a marriage between different "races"?

Or the idea of a law that would say NOBODY is allowed to be part of the REPUBLICAN PARTY?

The law is the same for everyone but it OBVIOUSLY takes away the rights of only some people.

Very, very nice vid. But I see we have much hate even here on the dis ... Well, that's ok, it is America and personally if your God is tolerant of or encourages such feelings then I guess followers will follow. I want nothing to do with that god or those people.

Have at it and let me know how that works out for you...

Hate? Where's the hate? Just because someone disagrees doesn't mean there's hate.

But the vilification of the "haters" is well documented.

As stated before, all laws start from opinion. I have a right to go 80 mph on the highway, the law says no. My rights are infringed too, but I have to live by the law.

Well yes, your rights may be infringed upon if you can't drive the way you want to, in theory, but states have decided there are public safety concerns for keeping you from driving too fast. Can you think of any public safety concerns that might bar gay people from marrying? If so, do you think these reasons are "compelling" (a word courts like to use) enough that they should be enacted? And no, the fact that two gay people being married makes you uncomfortable (and I mean the generic "you," because I don't know what your views are) is probably not a compelling enough reason.

Since we are wanting to throw marriage to the wolves, how about letting men have as many wives as they want????

Sounds like drug users complaining their rights are being violated by the laws...

Don't like it??? Move to a country that has laws that fit your lifestyle..

And in a list of Top Ten wack jobs, Olbermann is right near the top, that guy is a goof ball..

drug users??? DRUG USERS????????? Are you serious???

Ignorance is still everywhere I guess. :sad2:

Been there, done that. I guess it's just my minds logic center that sees it that way too.

Suppose you have a room full of people from all walks of life and in that room is a table full of food. Everyone is free to take whatever they want BUT no one can have the cherry pie. Are the people who want the cherry pie being discriminated against or is everyone in the room being treated equally?

I wouldn't call you ignorant, but if thats how you see yourself, thats too bad..

Perhaps we should also do away with DUI laws, shouldn't drunks be allowed to drive just like the rest of us?

If only half the people in the room like and want only cherry pie while the other half dislike cherry pie and want only apple and everyone knows it then yes they are.

I think this is the biggest part of the issue. Why is their opinion being made into law? If they don't like gay marriage- Don't have one!

Many fear that allowing gay marriage will lead a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah of sorts. Unnatural sexual acts were occurring there, and many believe that allowing gay marriage legitimizes it and shows God that we endorse it.

Personally, at the moment, I think I will stay out of their business. Something would have to seriously change my mind on that, which is why I say at the moment.

:scared1:

Yikes, how come folks are always focusin' on the sex act, is that what heterosexuality/Christianity is about?

But if the law is that everyone but "gay people" can have cherry pie then there is discrimination. If you don't like cherry pie, why do you care if other people that do like cherry pie can have cherry pie.

Because it is not throwing marriage to the wolves. No one is saying that if you want to marry a person of the opposite sex, that you can't do that.

And if the law is that people are only allowed to be married to one person at a time, it is not discriminating against anyone because everyone has the opportunity to be married.

I have always thought that Christianity was supposed to guide YOU in YOUR life. Instead it has become more of how you JUDGE others in their lives.

Because drunk drivers can hurt other people. Giving drunk drivers the right to drive can affect the rights of other people to drive without getting injured.

How does giving some people the right to marry the person of their choice, hurt someone else? Exactly how does alllowing two people of the same sex hurt your marriage if your marriage happens to be between two people of the opposite sex?

"Marriage is a social, religious, spiritual, or legal union of individuals. For the sacrament or liturgical rite in Christianity, see Christian views of marriage."

Christians can still have their sacramental view of marriage and allow other people to have a legal union of marriage.

Since we are wanting to throw marriage to the wolves....

With the divorce rate hovering around 50% in the good ole USA I dont think you need to blame the gays for "throwing marriage to the wolves".
