Keeping up with kids...

I am planning on renting a double stroller for my 6 and 2 years, but I am sure that they will want to get out and run around some time. My ds has a habit of wandering off and my dd is 2 and will run away from me just for the fun of it. Any suggestions on devices to attach them to DH and I? I am so paranoid over this!

For your older ds you can make sure they know how important it is to stay with you. My ds is the same way but once he sees the crowds he stays close. Also give him a card with your cell # and your resort info, and teach him if he gets lost to stay put and talk to a CM.

As for the 2yo while I am not a fan of the "child leash" you see plenty of them at disney and I appreciate those parents' doing what they need to do.

I would write your cell phone number on the back of his/her hand in permanent marker. I've done this for my DS when we were in a large crowd and it seemed to reassure him that he was safe.....just in case we lost each other.

You can also put DH in charge of one of the children when you keep an eye on the other.

Oh dear~

I have always felt such pity for children wearing a harness or wrist lead. That was until I gave birth to Ariel. Even though shes too small to slip away from me yet, I fear the day coming sooner than Id like. She's already pulling herself up to stand, and crawling. Im sure walking and running are going to be too soon to follow I know now, that if she will not hold my hand willingly, or sit in her stroller and chill. I will buy a harness or a wrist lead. I also hope that I will not need to use it more than once, as after the first time as much as she may hate it, all Id have to do is show it to her, or threaten to get it out, and she'll be holding my hand like a perfect little I have always known that parents with leads are just doing whats necessary to keep their kids safe, but it just always looked so wrong. Now Ill be one of those people with the lead

Keep Moving! This probably wont deter the 6 yo from jumping but it might stop the little one. I found that as long as I kept moving there was so much to see that he didnt even attempt to get out. I was scared he would run away when I was planning, but once we got there it wasnt as big of a problem.

Also, if dh is really a wanderer, maybe consider two strollers?? Then he would HAVE to push one, and it woudl force him to take a more active role in the chasing I feel your pain, dh sounds just like him, and we still only have one, but I know the day is coming where we have two little ones to chase around!

We used a harness on our DD when she was a toddler. I didn't let her get far ahead, but she liked it because she had a bit of freedom and didn't have to hold a hand. I liked it because I knew she couldn't get away.

I know there are people who think they're awful, but when you've got an active, FAST toddler, you have to do what you have to do.
