So what's everyone doing to keep their family Germ & sick free before their trip ??

We have 40 days to go and we are taking our vitamins And Omega's.. have to pick up some Vitamin C... Eating lots of fruits and Veggies, eating healthy, drinking lots of water and Getting 8 hrs sleep.

OH and staying away from Malls with the kids !! GEE do they have to touch EVERYTHING ... and my 4yr DS, does he always have to put his mouth on all the railings ...:scared1: :scared1:

I think you are doing everything you can. Take some hand wipes or something to use while you are there and to wipe down stuff in the room that the maid probably doesn't. We did all that, and the baby still ended up getting sick and passing it along to the other 2 kids. So I think its just a matter of luck. Hope you have a wonderful trip!!! Good LUck in staying healthy!!

Washing your, and their hands, at every opportunity is the best defense. The rule of thumb my father, a doctor, taught me was to wash with very warm water, plenty of soap suds, and scrub while you sing a full chorus of a song to ensure you took enough time. When mine were little the song went like this... set to the tune of the Happy Birthday Song.

We are washing our hands!
We are washing ourhands!
We are killing all the Germies!
We are washing our hands!

This doesn't always work. I got food poisoning before our last trip to Disney World in September, and the journey there and the first few days were difficult. Life is full of curve balls. Pack meds and be flexible.

I just recently read this tip in Woman's Day Magazine! They suggested that you sing the song twice!

I always carry Purell (or something similar) in my purse. I think I use it more often than hand lotion these days! (LOL) What's funny is, my DH who used to laugh at me for pulling out my tube or bottle of Purell, is now the first to ask for it whenever we go out to eat!! What goes around....!

My son (age 12) and I (age 38) take Airborne 2 times a day. They also have it available for children under 12. It is all natural & herbal & helps to build your immune system. We also take it with us & use it during our week long vacation in December. :santa: 41 days till vacation !! :santa: We also drink aloe vera juice daily, which can be mixed with anything. It helps to cleanse your colon & digestive tract & also builds your immune system. We mix it into our daily fruit & protein shakes as well. That is my best advice. Works for us !!!! :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:

When you find the secret let me know!! We have a few days over a month to go until our trip and we are trying the same thing. Before our trip last year our son got real sick and ended up on an antibiotic. I don't want them going down sick and I don't want any of us coming home sick. Make sure you pack the purell with ya.

Goodness!!! I always have this concern (obsession) before we go away. It changed from concern to obsession because I have spent 2 vacations in bed at the Wilderness Lodge & BW...once with the flu 103 fever, ear infections & the other with a miserable UTI.
Prior to the trip (like now) I hope that we all eat right and get enough sleep, limit stress.........but how life goes it just never seems to happen. I guess I will resort to crossing my fingers!!!
Wishing you all health!:goodvibes

As a professional singer, staying healthy is usually my number one priority year-round. (I sing mostly classical: opera and oratorio, but also do some musical theatre and jazz too.)

I LOVE Airborne, by the way. One of the best things ever invented. Most other singers I've worked with use it too.

A few tricks of the trade that work for me:

Regular daily routine:
*multi-vitamin
*vitamin C (500mg)
*Omega-3 supplement

During my busy singing times (or anytime you REALLY need to not get sick):
*multi-vitamin
*Airborne tab 3 times a day
*LOTS of water and fluids
*Zicam on hand in case of any sign of sickness
*Ocean brand saline nasal spray to irrigate any germs out of the nasal passages (I like Ocean over the generics)
*Guaifenisin syrup (regular Robitussin - NOT the kind with cough suppressant) I take it the night before an important concert or audition to thin the mucous in my throat - that way it doesn't build up and lay on the cords.

And if you have a dry home, sleep with a humidifier on.

Anyway, this is the kind of thing singers deal with on a regular basis. Most people don't understand our constant paranoia, but when a big chunk of your income depends upon whether you're healthy enough to sing, it's a non-negotiable. (I use my gig money for Disney!):woohoo:

Hopefully some of these things can keep non-singers healthy in important times too!

all great advise !! thanks

on our last trip my ds had a high fever for one day. My DH who had just a month prior found out that he had Gout was still trying to find ways of dealing with it, so there was about 2 days that he had to stay in the room with extreme pain.

So I'm really hoping that this trip we can all stay as healthy as possible.

Has DH tried cherries & cherry juice for his gout? Works wonders!

shortly after coming back from WDW we found Black Cherry Juice and since then he has never had a problem, now we need to look for Black Cherry Suplements for our trip, since I don't think we can travel with a bottle of Cherry Juice (Flying out of Buffalo)

The Vitamin Shoppe used to have them online, you might want to check there.
Good Luck

If they no longer have them you can ship the juice to your resort prior to leaving....

My Dr. told me to rinse my mouth out with listerine two times a day. Kills the germs.
