Keeping child in a crib...

I would use a bassinet for the new baby - that will buy you probably another 3 months - would hate to buy a "new crib" when maybe by the time the new baby is ready for a crib, your older daughter would be ready for a toddler bed.

We did use a co-sleeper for DD but she went into her own room at 9w. That was about the time that she was sleeping through the night.

I guess I need to decide if I would rather buy another convertible crib or just go ahead and buy her a new bed. Hmmm....

Our oldest was tranisitoned out of her crib at 1.5 years as her sister was on the way. We bought her a toddler bed and she had no problems with it. It was low enough to the floor that if she rolled out she only fell about 6 inches max. Our second DD was transitioned out of her crib shortly before she turned 2 becuase 1) we moved and a toddler bed was the next step, and 2) I had a friend in need of a crib. My youngest is now 3.5 and I could not imagine her in a crib. She's been potty trained for almost 2 years now and having to get up each night would get old IMO. But that's just me.

I do want to say that you lucked out with not having a climber, I like PP must have little monkey's! Our oldest performed her first "climb" at about 9 months, a very scary experience.

OP are you serious? An almost 3 year old in a crib. Please say you mean a toddler bed with crib mattress. It is time to trans now, well before the baby comes. Make a big deal and update the room and new linens, etc..

DD16 loved her pretty pink crib and I hated to move her. She was having a bit of a hard time expecting the new baby anyway, so I thought it the better part of valor to not have that fight. I just let her stay in her crib and put a twin bed in her room. She started climbing out of the crib and napping in the twin bed and eventually she stopped sleeping in the crib altogether. Meanwhile new baby brother slept in my room in a porta-crib for about 6-8 months. When DD had transitioned out of the crib we took it down and DH painted it white. Six weeks later we re-erected the crib in her room and moved the baby in there with her where they happily cohabited for the next 4 years. Easy-peasy. :goodvibes

Wow, lucky you. I have no advice for you because my DSs wouldn't stay put in the crib they were in a toddler bed by 1 yr. They were definitely monkeys! Both walked by 6 months and were climbing soon afterwards. I was too afraid that they would fall or get hung up on the crib that I moved them into the toddler bed as soon as they started climbing.

My daughter actually climbed INTO her crib one afternoon and couldn't get out. That stopped the climbing very quickly. We started her napping in her "big girl bed" a twin in the same room when she was around 3. She didn't start sleeping in it full time until probably 3 1/2. She was potty trained but had some physical issues and wasn't dry at night until she was 9 so that was never an issue, she never woke up.

Good luck, I remember keeping up when you had your first little one. Ya'll seem like very good and in touch parents. You will know what feels right for your family.

My 5 year old has been out of her crib for years, firstly we took the sides down into a toddler bed then a real bed she helped pick out.

But in the last couple of months she has gotten it into her head that she prefers the 'sleepover bed' which is like a little couch that pulls out into a kids size mattress with a cover. Or her princess blow up matresss that also fits into a princess sleeping bag complete with its own pillow.

Both of those are kid sized not full sized and are cheap options. How about those? Especiallly the blow up matress and sleeping bag is totally washable for the night time accidents and both are on the floor so there is no falling issues.
