Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

It’s not about the cost, but about getting injured. Several people in Helene died from trees falling through their roof and killing them. I can’t sleep during a hurricane without earplugs to block the noise, so I would not hear any creaking or cracking sounds from the trees. There would also be no one to attempt any kind of first aid since I am riding out Milton alone.
You do you.

That sounds like smart thing to do since you live alone.

We're here now and just want to say I really appreciate ppl. keeping the thread updated. We're trying to make the best out of the trip so being able to come here to easily get the most updated info. is really helpful.

We're keeping our fingers crossed.

That's very kind and thank you. This DIS community never ceases to amaze me. Milton can go scratch and pound salt!

No Hurricane is scheduled to hit Orlando as of today at 8 PM. Orlando is just within the possible Cone for Wednesday night to Thursday morning for possible rain or wind impact.
The cone is a possibility of where the eye will go so although the currently don’t have the line going through Orlando since it’s within the cone it could shift that way. They had talked about how the cone was confusing after Ian when it shifted from Tampa to ft Myers and everyone was surprised but they had been in the cone.

Here’s the latest track:

That is welll within the cone of possibility and also well within the area where there will e significant wind and rain even without a “direct” hit. Today is likely the last day for people to leave safely (if it’s not already too late due to flights being booked and gas & rental cars being hard to come by).

Honestly, I don't think that flight goes out. I don't even think Thursday night goes out. MCO might not even be open on Thursday. On the bright side, I am fairly confident that flight would be canceled before Wednesday so you'll know and probably get all your money back with no change fees or cancelation fees since you fall into the window. Good luck on your decision. I know its hard

" Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Sunday, 10/6 – Saturday, 10/12.

Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or canceled online, including changes to travel dates, without fees. Packages including air transportation or other services provided by third parties, or those with travel protection, cannot be modified or canceled online. For Guests with these reservations please call for assistance. "
Where did you see the “Due to potential weather impacts…”? I don’t see any change on Disney’s website. Thx!

As somebody who is on only their second park day how safe will it be to stay at boardwalk through the storm vs leaving the state immediately ?

WDW is one of the safest places you can be during a hurricane.

In fact, you will likely start to see people from parts of the state arrive at WDW because that is where lots of people in Florida go to evacuate.

Disney allows pets at ALL resorts during hurricanes so you will likely see them with their pets also.

Now that being said......it is very likely Disney will close the parks at sometime this week....BUT.....the resorts will remain open and the restaurants in the resorts will remain open and they usually have activities in the lobby during storms.

Depending on the exact track of the storm, Disney might advise guests to go into their rooms and shelter in place for a couple of hours. I know they did that a couple of years ago when a strong storm came through. So just keep that in mind.

The state just lifted tolls for central/western Florida (including alligator alley). They will also open the shoulders on the interstates for increasing evacuation bandwidth (once a <40 mph threshold).

I waited hours to speak to SWA. We're supposed to be on plane this morning to MCO

A day 'too early' to modify the res. Slowly watched Friday & Sat flights sell out. Went ahead and paid $500+

When I finally got thru, didn't take much discussion to cancel todays flight, apply the credit to the increased new flight's cost and issue us a refund for the remainder

I luv Southwest :)
I requested for our visit and she reports "shelves are bare" already! Good luck!
Not surprising, when dock strike announced paper towels disappeared from shelves here. Sam's club only permitted 1 pkg per person and in store only. Of course I was out of them lol.
We are scheduled to come in the evening of the 11th. So far our airline is only allowing changes for Wednesday the 9th
See above, call again
MCO might not even be open on Thursday.
I'm hearing likely 1/2 day Weds and Thursday if Tract continues.

True but, during stays at the deluxe resorts at both wdw & U during multiple stays, menu can be modified...especially at U

Are they offering refunds on dated park tickets if purchased separately from the resort reservation? We only bought one day tickets which you can’t get as part of a package anymore because there is a two day minimum now.

1. Can you get out? Gas supply shortages in central FL were already reported earlier in this thread. I would not start a drive out at this point. If you are flying and can fly out then you can still get out.

2. What happens to unused days on your tickets? Should be able to ask GR about this in the park.

If staying…
1. Disney is considered the safest of hotels and BW has indoor hallways and convention facilities so it’s even one of the better Disney hotels to be at. I wouldn’t change hotels.

2. You could be stuck in your hotel room for a day or two. Charge your devices for power outages. It might be too late for a snack/grocery order but I’d try anyway in case you’re not a fan of Disney’s limited offerings.
