Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

Are they offering refunds on dated park tickets if purchased separately from the resort reservation? We only bought one day tickets which you can’t get as part of a package anymore because there is a two day minimum now.
Call and ask. It wastes time looking for other’s experiences, especially if it’s done on a case by case basis.

We could buy an emergency plane ticket if we had to and leave today assuming flights are still running and we could uber to the airport, but would rather not cut our stay short on day 2 if things were safe inside the resort and it was just a matter of waiting it out… but obviously don’t want to risk our lives either. what are the risks with that?

No one can completely answer your questions as it relates to your level of comfort - but the west coast of Florida evacuates to Orlando for storms, and the Theme Park Resorts are built to keep you safe. They have emergency teams that will work and stay on property to keep guests safe and provide for them. Things may start to shut down Tuesday evening, or Wednesday morning depending on track and speed, but it should be clear of Florida by Thursday. Weather is expected to be nice Friday.

As somebody who is on only their second park day how safe will it be to stay at boardwalk through the storm vs leaving the state immediately ?
We were at BW for Hurricane Ian and felt very safe. I can't say enough about how amazing the CMs were, considering everything they had to deal with personally and with guests. The BW had a buffet setup in the convention center, catered by Trattoria Al Forno. Also, the characters were out in the lobby playing games with everyone.

Latest track is ever so slightly more north. This will go back and forth as we get closer. This thing is going to go straight through central Florida. This will still be a CAT 2 by the time it hits Orlando with the latest track. I don't see this being your normal hurricane around Disney where things are normal at the park the next day. This looks like a serious problem. Remember, Ian was a TS when it got near Disney, not a cat 2 hurricane. Hopefully it weakens before landfall. Cat 3/4 will be terrible for that coast and inland areas. Stay safe everyone

Flights are still running at this point. Only TPA (Tampa International) has announced they will close tomorrow at 9 AM to move the Planes out of the area. When are you currently planning to leave aka the end of your trip?

What would be the impact to your normal lives if you had to spend 1-2 extra days at WDW?

Very little risk. To be honest you are more likely to be hit by lightning in Florida than lose your life in a Hurricane. Just follow the guidelines of all resort / park announcements.

The latest update to the forecast now once again has this as a direct hit on WDW. Everyone basing their advice on "Disney being the best place to be in a hurricane" is giving bad advice. The best place to be in a hurricane is not in the hurricane. If you have no choice and are stuck, fine you're stuck. But if you can get out, you should get out. This has the potential to be historically bad for WDW:

Staying in WDW right now because you want to try to salvage a vacation is a poor life decision.

I've been stressing about this for a couple of days now, moving flights. First moved to Thursday but now it looks like that's when it will be directly over Orlando. We originally were scheduled to land in Orlando on Wednesday night. Plans for Thursday and Friday. Wedding on Sunday. I have two kids that are coming. Looks like we don't have much of an option and will have to cancel the trip and miss my neice's wedding. Not anything like living there of course, we have family in Central Florida.

WDW is one of the safest places you can be during a hurricane.

In fact, you will likely start to see people from parts of the state arrive at WDW because that is where lots of people in Florida go to evacuate.

Disney allows pets at ALL resorts during hurricanes so you will likely see them with their pets also.

You cant even make a reservation at a Disney hotel for Tue, Wed or Thur. right now

Anyone who has the ability to leave should leave.
No that is very bad advise a this point. If you are located in an Evacuation Zone or in the flood surge area then yes make plans to leave today.

In Florida the EOCs don't recommend everyone panic. You only need to move 30-50 miles away from the Coastal areas in the projected Cone. They do not want everyone racing to the Airports and causing traffic jams, fuel shortages (temporary), and fear and panic.

Anyone indicating anything else is giving bad advice.
There is simply no need to evacuate WDW. There will be a major influx of evacuees relocating to Orlando area. The tolls have already been suspended

I am not indicating that WDW should be evacuated. I am indicating that people who have the ability to leave WDW should leave WDW. There is a difference between a local from Tampa who is staying at WDW, and someone from New York who is able to get an earlier flight and get out. If your home is not in the path of a hurricane, you should go home. People are basing their advice that it is fine to be at Disney based on what has happened in the past. There is a chance that this could be historically bad and people who have the ability to go somewhere else (out of the path of the hurricane entirely in a different state) should definitely do so. A vacation is not worth this level of risk.

The time to leave is now. It will be too late to leave soon.

Yeah this has the potential to be a historic storm. The fact that it has increased to almost a category 5 already is scary. The models keep changing and I wouldn't be surprised if it hit as a Cat 4. This is going to do a lot of damage. Do not risk your life for a vacation.

Could a projectile fly through your hotel room window and damage or kill you or your fam? Yup. Is it a long shot? Yup.

Only YOU can determine if the risk is worth it, nobody here can do that math for you.

No flights Sat? You’d at least make the wedding.

Charging q- were Disney payment systems still running for room charging, cc’s for things like the hurricane buffet?

I can't remember if we could charge to the room or had to use our cc. I am going to check with my husband to see if he remembers how payment worked.
