Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

SWA's advisory for MCO is Tues-Friday. Allows people to reschedule without price change, I believe. I don't have any travel plans and we're up in Chicago, but thinking of y'all. Good luck everyone, whether Florida is home or just your happy place!

I am currently flying out of Newark Airport on Friday at 6am to Orlando. I am hoping everything should be ok by then.

I was just booking a flight for another trip and noticed that American Airlines is waiving rebooking fees for travel from 9/24-27 for a bunch of Florida (and other) cities. Some other conditions apply. Good luck and safe travels to all!

We have tickets for Friday's party. Hubs is out of town for work, flying home Friday morning. As long as the track doesn't jog east, we should be fine, but will probably get wet at the party.

The path of every one of these storms tends to move from the original projections. I think they try to predict the path too far in advance when a lot of random things associated with the weather can impact where it eventually goes. There can be significant wind/rain 200-300 miles from the storm's center. Airlines tend to be good at proactively cancelling flights ahead of major storms be it hurricanes/snow/ice/etc. They don't want planes and crews to be out of position once flights can resume. Typically, they will waive any change fees when that happens. There isn't anything you can do if your scheduled flight is cancelled since it isn't safe for planes to fly into major storms.

If you compare the path shown here on page 1 to where it actually goes in the next few days will get a sense of how things can change.

hi

not going to wdw until next week but if the tropical storm has lingered in florida how likely will disney be to allow me to postpone my trip?

good luck to all!!

The storm won't linger, it'll be long gone by next week. According to the only meteorologist I trust (Denis Phillips) this thing will be gone from Florida by Friday. It's looking like landfall around 8pm Thursday in either the big bend area or panhandle. Unless this thing makes a hard turn East (which it isn't looking like, but it's good to be prepared) the impact around Disney/the Orlando area won't be much more than a typical summer thunderstorm.

Not sure if it's been noted yet, but Jetblue has a travel advisory for Thursday and Friday too. I'm flying out midday on Friday, so hopefully the flight isn't cancelled. Looks like the system will practically be up in my area by then, but I'm worried about residual delays and cancelations.

Keeping our fingers crossed for our flight on Thursday. :scared: Tried to find flights from our local airport for Wednesday routing through Chicago to Orlando, but so far no luck without having to pay again almost as much as we did for original tickets.

We are coming from Texas, so going across all of this mess to get into MCO. I changed our Thursday flight to Friday and called Disney. They refunded me the 1 night hotel stay I had to cancel (no trip insurance). Will watch the storm to see if it’s cleared up for our Friday flight- if it tracks how they say, it should. Getting on a plane Thursday knowing we’d be flying through all of the pre-hurricane wind and not really knowing what’s coming caused me to move us out so we will know what we are flying into. If we get cancelled Friday I will try to call back and get us moved to November. Really hoping this trip happens for us. Our family has been through a lot of hard things and losses and are looking forward to going to our happy place for a few days. Keeping all of the locals in my thoughts as they deal with much more than vacation disruption.
