Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

Anyone heading to Disney should bring at least three pair of shoes that can be worn in water, since there are also parts of the parks that don’t always drain well. I have been in water above my ankles from regular summer rains, especially in MK and Epcot. You don’t want to have to wear damp shoes that haven’t had time to dry out. Some kind of sandal with good traction and support is probably the best idea.
Many people (myself included) don’t own 3 pairs of shoes that can get wet.

Your home geography plays a big part in what king of footwear you own. I have been to Disney 40+ times (mostly in Aug/Sep) and I can’t say I’ve ever felt the need to bring 3 pairs of shoes that can get wet. Sometimes I don’t even bring 3 pairs of shoes for our 10 day trips.

Ugh becoming more disheartened by this. Our one night for HHN is Sunday….will be such a bummer if the scare zones are rained out. We don’t really have other options, unless they let us move our dates to Thursday , without penalty . I don’t know . Will just have to hope for best. My son only wears tennis shoes….at least he has 2 pair , but they’ll be soggy. Ugly crocs for me. Idk bout DD. I need to scrounge up all the rain gear , phooey . Was hoping this would go elsewhere . We’re don’t have too much flexibility with limited time/ tickets. .

We are supposed to arrive on Saturday night (party on Sunday), but may end up cancelling. The system is supposed to stall over central/S FL from Sunday to Thursday producing 5+ inches (depending on model) of rain in Orange County with tropical conditions. However, areas south may get double digits. Flooding is likely.

I apologize if it sounded like I was giving an order as opposed to making a recommendation. I agree, everyone has different shoes and will pack according to their individual needs, including how they are getting to Disney (a driver can take more luggage than a flyer). They may have one pair of sandals or a pair of Keds that dry quickly, which I do not. I need the support of a more structured shoe when walking the parks. I hope the heavy rain does not come to pass, as no one wants weather like that on vacation.

I normally take two pair of park shoes (leather walking shoes that are made to go in the washing machine) and a pair of supportive flip flops or Crocs to wear around the resort, to the pool, etc. My walking shoes may be made to get wet, but it does take a day or two for them to air dry. They are not meant to be put in a dryer. I take two pair not only for rain but since they fit differently it helps with preventing blisters as well. But I also drive to WDW so taking them is not an inconvenience for me.

Decided to pull the plug on my October trip. I was able to transfer hotel reservation to February dates with the current discount. I was surprised that Disney allowed me to transfer my deposit to the new reservation given that my check-in date is this Sunday. The forecast was for rain, on and off, for our entire trip. I hate that we're going to miss the Halloween party as that was the main reason for our trip. Maybe we can try for next October?

I'm flying down Sunday. Still a lot of time between now and then. Just going to prepare for worst, stop checking the weather beforehand and keep fingers crossed.

We arrive on Wednesday the 9th and have a MNSSHP on Thursday and head out for a Halloween on the high seas on Friday. We've been looking forward to this all year, so I'm hoping that things trend drier. I'll take a wash out on Wednesday if it means a fairly dry Thursday!

I hope they are wrong or at least Tuesday night is clear. We have the halloween party that night and Im very excited about our costume.....

Im hoping it's still too early to tell..the weather app still says 50% or so chance of rain on those days....

Do people think it is going to be like occasional rains (Like Ive been there where it would start pouring but after less than an hour be back to normal) or like...constant?

Im hoping that it will be dryer than they say right now and that it's not set in stone yet...

we leave Saturday and are staying for a week...

(We are also going with somebody that has never gone before and is so excited, and Im worried that Fantasmic might get rained out each night)

The models are not looking great, so we are going to pull the plug tomorrow. I was mostly concerned about our DVC points. However, MS said they are working with people and our tickets will become a credit to use toward another event. I’m good with that.

You said shoes that can be worn in water. I didn’t take you meant to bring waterproof footwear, but rather ones you could walk in rain properly and safely, then switch out for drier ones.

For me, that’s an extra pair of lightweight sneakers (Skechers). Mine aren’t waterproof, but can be worn in water. As for flip flops, I’ve worn the cheap ones and it’s hilarious trying to keep them on.

Man, Ive seen three people now on the boards talking about canceling their trips. Is it looking that bad? :( I thought people said there is still a lot of uncertainty in this ? Are people thinking rides/fantasmic/party/etc will be closed? Or just that there will be rain occasionally through the day?

Rain expected across Florida Sunday into Tuesday or Wednesday.

Also, keep an eye on TD11 in the Pacific. It’s expected to cross through Mexico and possibly regain strength in the gulf. Would be another rain maker towards the end of the week.

Nobody has any idea, all we know is that rain is being forecasted. How much that impacts park operatuons, no one has any idea until it happens

For me, it was more about safety, having to drive through areas of very heavy rain from Jacksonville all the way to Orlando. And then maybe back home. Just is not worth the risk. I'm rescheduled for February so on the bright side I can check out Epcot Festival of the Arts.

First trip with our one year old starting tomorrow and its rain all week. Hopefully its just some showers and not full on pouring all day

From Denis’ fb post

“Friday Tropical Thoughts:

1. Still at 40% 🐢

2. Regardless of whether or not that piece of energy crossing Mexico into the SW Gulf develops or not (most models now say yes), increased rain chances arrive starting Sunday into next week.

2. It will NOT be a washout weekend, although Saturday will be nicer than Sunday. Yes, your flight is ok. You can go to Disney and you can walk your dog any point in time this weekend. (End of next week might not be as good)

3. First wave of tropical moisture sticks around through Tuesday. IF the other area develops, it would approach Florida Thursday or Friday.

4. Location would probably be anywhere from Tampa South. Again, IF it develops, many models hinting at tropical storm strength. This is by NO means set in stone yet, but figured you'd want a heads up.

5. Conditions aren't really great for development, so honestly, I'm thinking whatever develops will be pretty ragged. So, just check in from time to time for updates. At this point, a low impact system appears most likely. Personally, I vote for a NO impact system. We ain't got time for this nonsense. #FloridaStrong”

It appears the percentage of development is 50%. Updates below.
