If she brings it up again, direct her to a nice neighborhood down the street that has HOA. Not that there's anything wrong with that. She'll like it a lot better there, rules to suit her.
Keep hanging, AND keep a collection can inside your front and back (and any other) doors - so that every time someone asks you to stop hanging your clean laundry out to try, you can ask THEM to please contribute to your EnergyStar dryer fund, thankyouverymuch!
I have a job for your neighbour! Can she come over to my house and tell my next door neighbour to quit piling junk next to his house? And while she is at it, she can tell him to get rid of his collection of old newspapers? I think the poor guy is into hoarding big time.
Drape some laundry over the sill of the windows that face her house. Then the line won't seem so bad. Keep hanging. There's nothing like freshly dried laundry from the outdoors. And I'm continually amazed at how self absorbed some people are.
The nerve! Keep on hanging your laundry.
I'm not sure I would have even told her that I'd consider her concerns.
But if she does come over again the next time you hang your laundry, just tell her that you decided to continue hanging your laundry and are doing your part to conserve energy.
Keep us posted.
You all are so great! I, too, cannot believe that on the DIS this got unanimous support. I expected at least a little dissension. But, thanks for the support. I've hung another load outside today, but I don't think she's home to witness my desecration of her view.
I'm gonna keep hanging!
I did see the guy on her other side out yesterday and I asked him if she'd said anything to him (since he leaves his line out all year, she's got to know it's coming even though I don't think he's hung anything out this year). He said no, but if she ever did he'd tell her one of the variants on this thread about where she could put it. So it'll be two on one at that point.
As for me, if she says anything again I'm just going to smile and say that I considered it but I'm happy with the way things are and maybe she should try it sometime. Either that or I'm gonna comment on the eight cars parked all over their yard (for 2 people) that I don't think are nice to look at!
What in the world have we come to when folks can no longer hang laundry outside to dry? I'm sorry, but your neighbor is off the deep end. I am truly stunned that someone would complain about laundry hanging outdoors. Is she from another planet?
Although I no longer hang laundry just because we do not have a clothesline at present, when we move I will never live somewhere if hanging laundry outside is forbidden.
Hang your laundry wherever you like in your yard...oh, it must smell so good when you bring it in! Your neighbor doesn't know what she's missing - I feel sorry for her (she's still a jerk).
