DH and I are leaving on vacation in 8 days -- not a Disney trip but hopefully our experience will work in Orlando too!

We booked our car rental about 6 weeks ago......$297 for a full size car for 1 week. We rent with Hertz because as a Gold 5-star member, my husband can drive without the daily second driver fee.

ANYWAY.......

I have checked the rental twice since I booked online and the rate has dropped both times.

I just changed it yesterday --- dropped to $199 - taxes and all.

If the local company hasn't gotten enough reservations....they will adjust the price.

Oh yes, check the different classes of cars as well. The $199 price was for....mid-size, standard and full size cars!!!!

I hope this saves a little $$$ for someone!

Have a great trip

PS - one more tip

This may not help those who arrive at the airport...

I my experience, local rental operations (vs. airport locations with higher taxes) have more favorable rates. Our $199 is actually from the airport because the local Hertz office is closed on Memorial Day...phoey...it could have been even LESS!!!

Ok, I hope some of this helps!

I would also recommend that people try a lowball bid on Priceline around a week or less before their trip.

I had a minivan booked with Alamo for our 11 day trip starting next week for $414. Tried Priceline 2 days ago and got the SAME minivan from Alamo for $299, $17/day.
