Is this what they allow on television nowadays? Would you let your child/teen watch this video?

I don't have children - but if I did answer would be "no way". Love Katy Perry but she is not for kids.

That's a good point. I think that because MTV is geared toward teenagers, one natually assumes that whatever they show on the channel will be seen by teens.

Fine for teens (high school age and up) but maybe not for the middle school crowd- IMO- and definitely not for younger kids.

BTW- love that song.

I don't know if what I saw was an edited version but what I saw was pretty tame compared to alot of TV out there.
ETA I don't allow my kids to watch any music video without me seeing it first, I probably wouldn't let my dd watch this one.

Teen yes. What is a "child" doing watching things like this anyway. That is why they make children's shows, geeze not everything has to be geared toward children. People have a right to watch things that aren't kid friendly. I actually don't see anything wrong with this video and wouldn't have a problem having a kid see it, there is nothing graphic in it.

You think this is bad I guess you never watched the video for Alejandro.....
(now that is graphic)

I think MTV has a Mature (age 14) designation on the channel. The video is risque and no I wouldn't want a child viewing it; however, most children are not viewing MTV. Now, Katy Perry does appeal to the younger set so if they were to say, play this video on Nickelodeon or something like that, there might be an issue.

....but wouldn't you be concerned that teens will be suseptible to the message of the video? :confused3

It your teen is suseptible from watching one video (any video) you've got problems. Teens have many influences, of which YOU are the biggest one.
I'm not a fan of censoring, but I'm a big fan of keeping the conversations open. That seems to have worked for us as a family.

I had to google it and watch the video.

Two observations: neither Katy nor her male co-star look remotely like teenagers. ;)
Also she wasn't wearing a seatbelt when they were driving in the convertible!

I think it is on par with lots of other videos, actually not as bad as some!

But I don't think young kids should be watching this.

I jus thank GOD that my daughter has no interest in Katy Perry (she mainly listens to most music for the actual talent of the singer) so I'm not subjected to that crap. :thumbsup2

With my luck, that will be one of the songs Mr. Scott has for them for recital!

This brings me back to the days when 'I Kissed a Girl' was being played and someone posted about her daughter coming home from a party and singing it.

You think teens care about videos like we did? They don't, in fact they hardly watch them. They are all about their IPODS and that is about it. I find it odd really.:confused3

Seriously the crap on the internet is far worse imo.

I coincidentally did see the video yesterday. So I had to comment.

I can tune into CMT and see the same baloney to be honest. And I do watch that sometimes as well.

I am not a country "fan" to be honest but I do like to tune into hip hop, country, Spanish vids, and the latest pop stuff just to place faces with some of the songs that I hear on the radio. I like all ranges of music.

I think hormones make most teens want to have sex, not a video. ;)

As I see it, I will have 13+ years of guiding and influencing my child. I don't think a 4-minute video would reverse all of that.

I actually thought the video was pretty good. Most videos for "teens" these days are focused on angst, drama, and depression. It was refreshing to see a video that showed people (they really weren't kids) having a lot of fun. Beach parties, road trips, etc. I wish I were there, and not at work. :rotfl:
