Katrina's Here!

Hi All I am in Southern Broward County and feeling the effects pretty heavily, I'd rather be in WDW than dealing with this!!! I do hope all of you stay safe and stay indoors!! They keep saying its a minimal Hurricane and we arent supposed to be having lots of winds but I beg to differ!!! Its is so windy that we already have power outages and tree's falling!!!! So Hopefully I can enjoy the boards a little more by researching my Christmas trip to WDW, until my internet connection goes!!! Stay Safe!!!

My DH was actually in Ft. Lauderdale on a business trip and had his Friday departure flight moved to Saturday. The meeting got out early so he decided to drive up to Orlando and will be flying out of there on Friday afternoon. The airline gave a waiver to flights leaving Ft. Lauderdale so he can do this without a fee. They didn't indicate that MCO would have any problems with flights. Hope it works at for everyone flying in and out!

We will be there next Saturday, I hope all leave or cancel their plans in fear of the storm :umbrella: . That will make it very secluded for the rest of us next week. I know that sounds selfish. :wave2:

Yes, you so come off very selfish. I'm sure all the folks who are effected are really glad to accomodate you.

To all of you in FL, stay safe! We were at WDW (Polynesian) last year for Hurricane Jeanne. :umbrella: The cast members were awesome and we only lost one day due to park closures. We were given a comp ticket good for 5 years! The next day was absolutely beautiful :sunny: and any damage (which was much less than the previous 2 (?) hurricanes) was very quickly cleaned up and it was business as usual. By the way, while we are on this topic, can anyone tell me when hurricane season ends? We will be down this year 11/29-12/6. It's all over by then, right? :scared:
Hurricane season runs from 6/1-11/30.

Thanks for the information. It's very encouraging.

So far everything looks good.

Why is everyone freaking out about a little rain and very mild winds? I live in Michigan and we get a storm, the winds are routinely up to 50-90 MPH.

ok I just have to quote you again because now two people have died from the storm.....

but I guess that is no reason to freak out!

*nervously watching the weather channel* :scared1: :scared:

I arrive on Sunday. Rain doesn't bother me all that much, but I would at least like to have a little sun/blue skies for my photographs!!
(Hey, a rainy day at WDW beats a sunny day at home anytime!)
:maleficen

I arrive Saturday night Sunday 1st day in the parks. Little rain doesn't bother me and I can deal with some wind as well. Hope the rain sends a few ppl runnin for cover.

All you down there stay safe!!!!!

i wondered about that to ,so do we and unfortunatly tornados come along for the ride so i looked some hurricane stuff up and
. from what i understand( no expert since we don't really see many hurricanes in lake erie :teeth: ) the storm surge along the coast can cause a lot of destruction and the rain lasts for hrs at a very heavy rate. when we have a bad thunderstorm it might rain/ wind heavy for 20 mins tops then moves on but this is hrs. long so much more damaging

this ones sounds pretty mild thought comparatively ( cat 1 i thought i heard) so hopefully won't do alot of harm

I am at WDW right now! We arrived yesterday around 4pm. WDW didn't get much of the storm. The skies looked terrible and it was raining but the sun was out by the time we got to the ME bus. Today the skies looked really threatening one minute and sunny the next. There were some wind gusts but only from time to time. It rained off and on but mostly off! At one point earlier the skies opened and soaked through to our skin. We were just about to ride the Norway ride. We got right on the ride and I stopped and handed out rain ponchoes before we went back out but the rain had stopped. It was sunny enough that we were hot and hoping for a little rain! I even got some sunburn. I think it hit more in southern FL.

We leave Tues morning, should it be clear by then? And is there anything threatening behind Katrina?

These storms are so strange. I just heard on the news that there have been two deaths due to Katrina in the Palm Coast area. One twenty year old man died when a tree fell on his car. I didn't hear the details on the other. This is a mild storm compared to Jeanne and Frances, you wouldn't expect this.

The weather channel reported the other person dies when a tree fell on him.

We were down at WDW today. Arrived at Epcot at around 1pm and it was raining but it blew over within 15 minutes and was beautful out afterwards. We then went over to MGM after we rode the TOT we noticied it had rained but we missed it (there was a 10 minute line for TOT) it was bright and sunny the rest of the time we were there. We ended the day at the MK, no rain at all. We had a really great day! :teeth:

Oh Goodness! You guys take care out there! Nasty ole huricanes just will not leave you alone! Hope it blows over very fast and clears up for you! How sad about there being deaths already! :( I hate that! Be safe guys!!! :grouphug:

I am flying in tomorrow at 5 and I hate to fly anyway.........sigh. Looks like Sunday will be a Disney Quest day..........I wonder how many people will feel the same way.

Hope everyone is safe and not just at disney. :cheer2:

I live about 2.5 hours southwest of orlando ....

I'm riding with you next time. We can't get there in 3 without a bathroom stop?
No one is freaking here. School is closed. We are still going to the Bucs/Fins Game. I sure am glad I don't live in Michigan...

For those going to WDW it can be the most fun you will ever have. Don the rain gear and tour! We went when the remnants of a hurricane was crossing the State about 3 days after 9/11. We had the parks to ourselves. At noon on that Saturday there was less than 500 people in Magic Kingdom!
